ISO Italian Grilling Recipes

Slice and marinate some zucchini & squash in Italian dressing and then throw them on the grill. You might want to use a basket since they tend to fall through the grates at times.

If you like crab cakes, Coins is awesome. It's in a strip mall.

Hands Down- Best BYOB in Central Jersey?

Went to Girasole in Bound Brook this week. It was great!

Bridgewater/Somerville Business Lunch

La Scala is a BYO; however, we were there for dinner last week and we felt somewhat insulted when after we declined dessert, the waiter pulled our wine bottle, capped it, put it on the table and took away the ice bucket. Can you say "hit the road" any clearer than that? We only had about a half a glass left, but were never aked if we wanted to finish it. Just put on the table with the bill. As for the food, it was good but nothing spectacular.

Cafe Picasso in Somerville-- Bad first impression

I think it's hit or miss with Cafe Picasso. I've had some really good pasta dishes and some pretty bad "par-boiled" chicken dishes. However, I've always had good service.

Mother's Day in Bridgewater

Sarah Jane's on 206 isn't usually open on Sundays, but they may be for a special occasion. Give them a call. Love the shrimp & scallop scampi. Family-owned with a good "American" type menu.

take-out in/around Hillsborough, NJ

I personally like China Wok in the WaWa strip mall.
For pizza, I go to Manville Pizza. I used to like DeLuca's (also in WaWa mall), but they were inconsistent.
The restaurant Cafe Piazza by the Thai Kitchen is very good, but a little on the pricey side for some.

Spanish/Portugese in Central NJ (Somerset Cty)

Mexican restaurant's name is 2 Amigos. Drove by yesterday. I think this place has changed hands a few times since the old Spain days. Is it a BYO? What did you have?

Spanish/Portugese in Central NJ (Somerset Cty)

Thanks, everyone. I've been to Spain 92 in the past year and it was fair. They were much better in their old location (which I believe is now a Mexican restaurant). Since it was such an ugly evening on Friday, we decided not to venture too far from home and ended up at Mugs in Raritan for some "picky" food and a pitcher of Sangria. Wasn't high-end, but food and service were both good and fit the bill for a cold, rainy night. Next date night will travel.

Can anyone recommend a good Spanish or Portugese restaurant in Central NJ (in or around Somerset County)? Preferably one with good sangria (Happy Friday!)

Thanks.

Have you tried the Bottle King?

Girasole - Bound Brook, NJ

I agree. Some of the best Italian food in the area. BYO as well. But hidden - not so much. Usually packed on the weekends with definite reservations necessary. And yes, with tile flooring - could get loud sometimes, but not unbearable. We go during the week and it's usually kept down to a dull roar.

Cafe Zebra - Raritan

Hey,
Does anyone on this board know what happened to this restaurant? And if the chef is presently working somewhere else. This used to be my favorite restaurant. Different types of fresh fish bought daily at the seaport. Menu would change daily. Presentation of both the menu and the food were wonderful. Wow, do I miss it : (

I'm not saying they are reputable reviews (see below); however, they were in response to the Artful Diner's review. I'm still going to try it and form my own opinion.

you've gotta be kidding me! everything about me and my husbands Tapastre experience was horrible. no one knew we had a reservation (not like it mattered, the place was empty). the lamb chops were so salty i had to send them back. the hummus should have been named simply "garlic spread" and my white chocolate soup tasted like burnt marshmallows.
i ordered a mark west pinot and it tasted like the bottle had been open for a month. i then asked the bartender if i could have instead a 7 n 7 and he had to ask me what that exactly was.
i'm usually NEVER this critical but i have to put this restaurant on my "stay away from" list!

Horrible dining experience in every way. Please avoid this establishment. Il pomodoro upstairs isn't what it used to be either. Beautiful atmosphere though food is overpriced for what you get.

Yes, Madame S is gone. Same owners but different name and menu. I was looking forward to trying Tapastre but recently saw a not so favorable review on it. We tried Il Pomodoro over the summer. It was okay but not spectacular.

Wasn't too busy Friday night, but then again we went fairly early and it's also January - not peak season for dining out (must be all the resolutions to lose weight). Service was great. There when we needed them but not hovering and very friendly. Bread was served with 2 sauces/spreads. I didn't try them as I too am trying to lose a little weight and have chosen to pass on the bread. My BF had it with the pepper and tomato sauce and said it was very good. Choice of soup or salad. Soup was N.E. clam, so we both opted for a salad, which comes with their house dressing. We chose the shrimp Niccola for an appetizer. Diced shrimp with fresh garlic and white wine served over Italian bread. IMO a little pricey at $10.99 when you only get 2 slices of bread. However, the sauce was delicious. BF ordered a special which consisted of chicken, shrimp, sausage & peppers in a balsamic like sauce. He raved about it. I had the stuffed shrimp. It was prepared well; however, the crab meat was a little disappointing as it was supposed to have brandy flavoring, which I did not taste and had a little too much filler for me. The portions were great and we definitely did not leave hungry. We will definitely be back (I'll just be ordering something different).

Good Indian Food in Central Jersey (NOT Edison)

I enjoy Pooja in Somerset (there's also one in Warren). They have a buffet at lunch, so you can try different things before having one meal. Their bread is to die for.

Girasole - AC?

I went for dinner the night before Thanksgiving and it was very good and actually very peaceful. They also have a brick oven for pizza.

Cafe Zebra in Raritan closed awhile ago. Uncle Vinny's Clam Bar in Raritan is casual and pretty good.
