Pinot Noir (or other reds) Recs

Am currently into my second glass of Hitching Post Cork Dancer 7.2, 2007. Nice for about $26.

Pinotage

I just read this thread a couple of days ago and got interested in trying this varietal.

I went to my nearest wine emporium and sure enough, they just put Mischief Maker wines on sale, including their pinotage. I spoke with one of the staff, and he said in general, he hates pinotage and the only one he recommends to customers is a $20 bottle. However, he said the Mischief Maker was a solid bottle of wine, and at $8.99, the price can't be beat.

My opinion? Meh. Just meh. Not horrible, but certainly nothing memorable. A bit of blackberry at the front, relatively strong alcohol taste, but pretty flabby overall. I'm glad I tried it, though, especially at that price.

Portland ME - CSF Delivery?

Phew, I thought you were looking for cerebrospinal fluid, like some sort of organ dealer.

Any Mainers know of someplace good to eat in Central Maine? (Kennebec)

I've been twice to Sweet Chili Thai right at the Augusta airport and have enjoyed it both times. Odd location, good food. Gets good reviews elsewhere, as well (Yelp, Urbanspoon etc.)

Damn, there are a lot of people who had to look that up. Does it make me some kind of perv that I not only knew what it meant, but also know that it's quite possibly the most benign term on UrbanDictionary?

Hound Honeymoon in New England?

Greater Portland has about a quarter million people, while the city itself is only about 65,000 but has a nice metro vibe. There are plenty of beautiful places just outside the city in Cape Elizabeth, Falmouth, etc.

Has nobody mentioned Padma's desire to motorboat Antonia? I had to do a double-take when I heard that. Seems if she wants to get into that, Casey would be the far better choice.

Better not invite these kids to Morimoto's house to eat. The first one who tries to grab a piece of fish with the narrow ends of the chopsticks will get his ass kicked.

I played a drinking game during this show. Every time Marcel said "like", I took a shot. I don't remember the last 25 minutes of the show.

Robert's Maine Grill, KIttery

I ended up going here yesterday and agree with pretty much everything people said.

I thought the space itself was very nice. Despite the rain and overcast skies, the space still was very bright and warm.

Our server was exceptionally attentive and pleasant and only charged us for one slab of birthday cake instead of two.

I think the prices are a bit over the top, but the food itself was quite good. I had the jumbo lobster roll ($24) which was the meat from probably a 1 1/2 pound lobster in a buttered and toasted extra long hot dog bun. Very little mayo so the lobster really popped. Also had a bowl of clam chowder which was the perfect consistency, not runny but not so thick the spoon will stand up in it. The waitress said they used to buy the chowder from outside, but started making it in-house recently. My family got fish n chips and the pot roast sandwich (both enjoyed very much), and the kale soup (not as much, described as bland).

Overall I enjoyed this place quite a bit and I think March was a great time to go, I can't imagine Route 1 in the summertime.

Anyone else watching "America's Next Great Restaurant"? * Spoilers *

I kind of liked the idea of a pot pie restaurant. I kind of have difficulty imagining a chain of "Saucy Balls" restaurants, but maybe it's in our future?

Do Different Types of Alcohol Cause you to Act Differently?

For some reason, the only potent potable that makes me act any differently is B&B. It tends to anger up my blood and make me kind of a d-bag. I haven't had it for some time, but I miss it, it's damn tasty. Guess I'd rather keep my friends. : )

Rye Whisky

Great, I'm 20 minutes from Julio's. I never looked much at their liqour selection, just wine, but I figured they'd have at least a few to choose from. Looks like I'll have to pick up a bottle of Rittenhouse this weekend. Thanks for the input!

Rye Whisky

Thanks for the great info! I don't really do mixed drinks, so I've been enjoying my rye as a good ole sippin whisky. I'll definitely be on the lookout for Rittenhouse. Unfortunately, I can't get liqour shipped to Massachusetts from out of state.

Rye Whisky

I just saw "The Lost Weekend" a couple of weeks ago and it made me interested in Rye. (The drinking part, not the alcoholic writer part). My local liquor store only carried Jim Beam which was about 16 bucks, so I knew it wouldn't be the best example, but I thought it was relatively enjoyable overall, a nice break from bourbon. Last week I went to a different store and bought Redemption Rye, which I enjoyed a great deal more. Can anyone tell me which are their favorites and where they can be purchased? (I'm in New England). Thanks!

Diabetic (Type 2) suing "All-You-Can-Eat" Sushi restaurant because he has to eat the rice and (gasp!) not just the fish?

I hate the sue 'em first nature of this country, but I think I'm being obtuse this morning. If you pay the agreed upon price, you should be able to do whatever you want with the food. Somebody help me, what am I missing??

Robert's Maine Grill, KIttery

Am heading up for lunch with the folks and we usually meet in Portsmouth, but I was perusing the restos in Kittery and came across this place. The menu looks quite good and it shouldn't be a hassle to get in at the beginning of March. Does anyone have any thoughts about this place?
