Orlando - Winter Break

I know this inquiry is regularly posted but there is always openings and closings in the area from year to year. Did Cohen's end up opening another place? I think they were in the process last year? Any other options besides Kosher Gourmet Restaurant and Kosher Grill? I looked at the Chabad site already. Lower East Side wasn't listed on the Chabad site. Are they still around? Is the ORV hechsher they list accepted by most Orthodox people?

Pesach programs under $2k per head?

Thats why we stay home :) However gsquaredb was looking at a warm location - I haven't seen anything lower than that (for an actual program). Most people who come will probably bring other members of the family and then the additional adults or kids in the room will bring the per person rate down closer to what they are looking for. The tax and gratuity rate is common. I checked the Pesach for Less site and the taxes are included but the gratuities aren't in that number so the total would be a little higher than 3195. I am tempted to try the Orlando program this year - maybe just for Chol Hamoed and last days.

Pesach programs under $2k per head?

(Tried posting this a couple of times, but didn't see it. If it eventually shoes in triplicate - Sorry!)

Look into i-4 tours. Here are the rates but call the program to see if you can get a family discount. The program is Orlando so its warm but not too far (air fare wise etc). I heard the caterer is great and the hotel was recently renovated. Will be there in a few days for Yeshiva break. Looks like the fee for the person in a room is a little over 2k but the additional people are much less:

Kosher Tour to Costa Rica

Anyone have personal experience with any of the groups that travel to Costa Rica? The good and the bad?

Another option in Orlando

So to clarify - The Modern Orthodox Yeshiva Week students would benefit from the i-4 Tours program. That would include co-ed and separate gender schools.

Another option in Orlando

My kids are off the third week in January (the 16th through the 26th counting the weekends) and I think most middle of the road Orthodox schools are off then. Some other Yeshivas don't want to give off the same week and they are off the following week. I checked the i-4 tours site and they are scheduling their program from the 17th through the 26th so that is probably the more popular week.

Another option in Orlando

There is a new program, called i-4 Tours, based at the WorldGate Resort. They will have a program for Yeshiva Week and Pesach. I heard the caterer, Food Art Catering, is top notch in Southern Florida. I spoke to the person who is running it and they decided that the restaurant will be also be open to people who are not part of the"program" or staying at the World Gate for a buffet Breakfast and Lunch. Miami Beach Pre-Paid Shabbat Meals - update

I did hear back from Europa. They're open for the season 11/1. Difference in price between Rare and Kikar Tel Aviv is pretty significant so I'm leaning towards the latter.

Miami Beach Pre-Paid Shabbat Meals - update

Anyone have more updated information since the last posting? We're hopefully going to Miami Beach for Shabbos next week. Asi's is booked and Kikar Tel-Aviva said that we need to call the Wednesday before to ensure that they will be open that week (need a minimum). Rare quoted me something pretty high. Is C.U. Cafe in the Mimosa still around? Haven't heard back yet from anyone there. Europa Grill number at Days Inn is out of service. Ae they still around?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Mozart Cafe - Sunny Isles

I've seen mostly good reviews for Mozart Cafe in Fort Lauderdale and Boca. How does this one compare? Is it family friendly? Someone mentioned there is also a meat restaurant right near by. Is that the same owner?

All You Can Buffets in NY/NJ/CT area?

Its called EJS Too on Hempstead Avenue. Very good milchig buffet on Wednesdays. Its a pizza place but the buffet has salads and pastas and usually eggplant parm type of offerings as well as fish (teriyaki salmon and I think maybe breaded type as well). There is usually a couple of soup choices and some type of dessert that is out - nothing fancy but decent. Call before just in case. (516) 279-6096.

Wing Wan just got an web site as well:

French Onion Soup

Always searching for good French Onion Soup. Like when they serve it with a coating of cheese baked (not microwaved) on top. Anyone can recommend one in NY?

Chateau Steakhouse Queens

Went on a Thursday night with 7 PM reservations and got seated immediately. The service was exceptional. Ambiance is very nice. The one minor thing about the setting that isn't great is that the walls facing out to the street are glass and though that can be nice, Union Turnpike isn't all that attractive to look out on.
Appetizers we chose weren't so great but I don't think we chose the best options for us anyway (some fancy sushi roll and French Onion soup). Both our steaks were very good and made exactly how we ordered. Prices are slightly lower than Manhattan and the meal was comparable to one at Prime Grill.

Will definitely go back again.

Asi's Grill - Southern Florida

Just saw a good Groupon deal for Asi's Grill in Miami Beach. Any reviews? In general I would like to hear about family friendly good eats in the Miami Beach area. Would probably go as far North as Fort Lauderdale.

new stuff in queens/long island

Upper Crust is on Central Avenue. I think its the same block as Crawfords. A block (same side) as Oh Nuts. Very interesting pizzas, including a few that are fake meat.

I think a new sushi place has opened in the 5 Towns as well. Sushi Tokyo also on Central Avenue. I think a friend of mine went and said it was good (all these places are becoming a blur to me).

I'm also not a fan of Muscat and don't get why its so popular. Never heard of Turpike Cafe. Will check it out.

I'm sure its not on a student budget but Chateau Steakhouse is fairly new. Plan on trying it next week. In the 5 Towns, Upper Crust (dairy) opened up a few months ago. Not too expensive and a diner atmosphere with fun (some very cheesy) food.

Kosher wedding places in Long Island

I have only been to Beth El out of the three and it was probably within three years ago. It is a very nice place and people like the winding staircase there (nice photo opps). The place is elegant and I like that there is a separate "smorg" room and reception room. Can't comment on the actual shul/sanctuary since I was there for a Bar Mitzvah party. The place was decently sized but probably wouldn't hold a very large party (over 250?). I can't specifically remember the food, but it was probably good.

Has anyone tried this place yet? Its the new dairy restaurant on Woodmere Boulevard opened by the same owners as Bistro Grill/Prime Bistro.

Joy of Kosher Best of 2011....Joke of Kosher more like it

A friend of mine who lives on Long Island went there once (because he was in Teaneck) and told me it was so good he would go again - even considering the tolls etc. The reviews here were mixed but this is someone who eats out a lot so I thought it was a convincing referral.

Great American Health Bar Veggie Burger

I worked downtown several years ago and I think that it was a Great American Health Bar before it was Broadway Cafe (but way before 6 years ago). I don't think the two places are related but they probably have similar menus. They are under two very different hashgachot.

Prime Bistro - Lawrence

Went to Prime Bistro last night and thought it was a nice dining experience. The place itself is nice and it felt more like a Manhattan eatery than ones in the 5 Towns or Queens. The food was very good and the service was excellent. My husband is not a steak eater and he requested that they butterfly his steak and he said it was the best steak he ever had. I shared with someone the Prime Rib for two. It was very yummy but I don't think the portion justified it being a shared meal. I would definitely go there again.

I just read today that Prime Bistro is owned by the same people who own Bistro Grill in Woodmere which is now temporarily closed. Bistro Grill will re-open as an upscale restaurant along the lines of TeVere.

Prime Bistro - Lawrence

I guess I am confused about uropsych's response. Which restaurant has bad service? Bistro Grill? A friend told me Prime Bistro was noisy (and full - which is good for them) and didn't have a liquor license when she went but you could bring your own liquor. She said food was good.
