Chowhound from LA seeking restaurant recommendations for Sydney and Melbourne
Thanks for your rec. How are they different? Just the location or the menu as well?
Any ideas on brunch spots?
Chowhound from LA seeking restaurant recommendations for Sydney and Melbourne
Hi Everyone, Since I'm in similar boat with KTLA, I am hoping to be able to piggyback on this thread.
The only reservation I have made so far is at Quay. I am looking for maybe 1 or 2 more fine dining places for either Melbourne or Sydney. I tried booking Tetsuya's but the timing doesn't work out. Any other place I should try my luck?
Completely blanking out for Melbourne...
Can we also have recs for great brunch places and some casual dining/lunch places in both sydney and melbourne?
I've been recommended a couple places by a friend. Please let me know if they're worth trying out: Longgrain, Rengaya, Pancakes on the rocks and China Doll in Syd, Movida in Melb,
Thanks in advance!
Truffle Cream filling for gougeres
I'm trying to make truffle cream as filling for my gougeres. Any recommendation for the recipe for such consistency? Please help! Thank you!
Private event dinner for 12 suggestions?
Oh thanks! Totally forgotten Blue Ribbon. We've been there a couple of times though, so I'm wondering if there are other places to check out.
Any other suggestions :) ?
Another one I can think of is Mercer's Kitchen(?). But we've been there too~
Per Se 'service included' and drinks
Hi ooglewoogle,
When "service included", tip is already calculated into your check, however you're free to leave any additional tip if you think their service is exceptional.
No restaurant will frown upon guests who are simply content with ice water and you shouldn't be under any pressure to order any drinks. I have to say though, for a restaurant of Per Se's caliber, they do have some reasonably priced half-bottle wines. The servers can definitely recommend you several bottles that you may enjoy and within your price range too.
I would be surprised if Per Se doesn't have a selection of quality beers and soda.
Well I hope you'll have a good time at Per Se!
Private event dinner for 12 suggestions?
Hi! I'm trying to look for a place that can comfortably accommodate 12 people for dinner in a private room setting. I'm particularly looking for a restaurant with a younger, relaxed, but upbeat feel. Some of the restaurants that I have looked into are Tia Pol and Orange, but I would like to see what my options are.
In terms of what type of food, I'm not too picky, as long as it serves good food :D
Thanks in advance!
Roadtripping fr NYC to Portland, ME
Thank you so much for the recommendations. Two lights looks beautiful, we definitely will stop there to check out the view. We'll try to hit as many places recommended .
Roadtripping fr NYC to Portland, ME
Hi, we are roadtripping from manhattan to Portland for the labor day weekend. It will be our first time there. Do you have must go recommendations for waterfront dining, brunches, lunches, good lobsters, clam bakes, etc.? How about pit stops along the way?
Any budget, cuisine, etc. is welcomed. Thank you very much!
Also, we would really appreciate it if you have any suggestion for foodie gifts for our friends.
Recipes using instant hot chocolate mix
Sounds good! I will try these out. Thanks for the links!
Recipes using instant hot chocolate mix
I've got quite alot of hot chocolate mix and don't feel like making any drinks. Does anyone have any recipes using them? Desserts, bake goods, etc. would be nice. Thank you!
Jean Georges for the non-seafood-eater
RGR, this was about two/three months ago. He is a vegan vegetarian and that is probably why those menus aren't suitable for him.
Jean Georges for the non-seafood-eater
As RGR mentioned, most of the restaurants in nyc are very conscious of allergies and very accommodating as well. Having quite a few friends with seafood and other allergies, the chefs and maitre'ds had recommended to call ahead and let them know of any allergies. That way they can plan menu for you in advance.
That said, JG has a lot of non seafood options, however you should clear with them to make sure no condiments is used in these dishes. They could be using shrimp paste, fish sauce (not sure if you're allergic to this too) and etc.
Re: Daniel, you should definitely call ahead so they have good dishes for you. A vegetarian once dined without letting them know in advance and he ended up having salad and mushroom tart for the evening. It was very good he said, but the maitre'd did mention to him that if he called in advance they would be able to prepare something better for him.

Recipe for Yuzu Cheesecake? [moved from Manhattan board]
Does anyone have a good recipe for yuzu cheesecake?
Something similar to L'ecole's would be great. They had a light an airy cheesecake with yuzu glaze and graham/macadamian crust. If not, any good recipe would do too. Thank you!!
Goat, not cheese, not curried
Kang Suh in Koreatown makes goat soups. Heuk Yumso Tang and Heuk Yumso Chongol.
I tried the Heuk Yumso Tang and thought it was very good.
Definitely something I have not seen in most Korean restaurants down there.

Recs for places around lower Central Park
We are hoping the weather will be decent for picnic at Central Park tomorrow, but forecast seem to show it might be raining tomorrow. So we would like to make a backup restaurant plan. Do you have any late brunch/lunch recommendations for around 5-6 people for restaurants near/in central park (west side would be fun since I don't hang out around UWS too much) Somewhere that take res would be great. But if not, decent wait would be ok too.
Thanks in advance for all your help!
When is Yogurtland opening?
I absolutely loved it too! Especially the blueberry yogurt flavor. I can't wait for it to open. I think it would have a decent follower since there are a lot of pinkberry me-toos through out the city that seem to be doing quite well.
When is Yogurtland opening?
I read that their NY post in Greenwich Village is supposed to open in April 2008. Does anyone know if this is open yet or when it is going to be opened? http://www.yogurt-land.com/.
It is like pinkberry but self serve and they have more fro-yo flavors and toppings.
Southstreet Seaport like atmosphere?
Parents are going to be in town and they really enjoyed Southstreet Seaport the last time.
They like the relaxed atmosphere and the pretty view. Do you have any suggestion for other similar places? My friend has mentioned Boat Basin? What do you think of that?
Any kind of food or price range is welcome. (As long as the atmospheres are quite relaxed and parents safe)
Sat/Sun brunch in West Village for 5or6
We would like to have a nice cute brunch in the West Village for around 5 or 6 ppl. Preferably somewhere that allows reservation so we won't have to wait in the cold for too long. Any price range is fine as long as it is a nice place. Something in the likes of Danal, or Blue Ribbon, Cookshop, 44 & X would do too. Could somebody suggest places pretty please?
Where to find cupcake liners?
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Finally figured it out. They're nut and party cups =) http://www.thebakerskitchen.com/CAKE_SHOPPE/Packaging_Products/Baking_Cups_%20Muffin_Cups/Baking_Cup_Liners.htm
Where to find cupcake liners?
Hi, I'm looking for a specific kind of cupcake liners like the one shown in the picture on this website http://www.flickr.com/photos/chockylit/2292064058/
I've been to several places in the city (like New York Cake Supplies) and a couple of online stores, but they seem to only sell the crinkly types.
Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance!

Looking for something ethnic for tonight
Hi, craving for something different tonight. Any ideas for good unique/adventurous ethnic places, like Latin American, African or Middle Eastern places? It would be the three of us. We're game for pretty much anything. (Not looking for the usual ethnics places like chinese/southeast asian/indian/mexican) Thanks!!!

On 49th between 5th and 6th, (right by rockefeller) There is also a Japanese wagashiya (traditional Japanese confectionery) called Minamoto Kitchoan. It is wonderful and they have very beautiful spreads.
Recommendations for Waikiki/Honolulu?
Is Giovanni the shrimp shack that we should go to?
Also, any recs on unique hawaiian gifts for my foodie friends? I've heard to look for pink salts?
Must Go places in SF?
Thanks for the recs everyone. We're from Manhattan. We enjoy both fine dining and also those random little street/market fares, union square market-ish. We also love great brunch places with great food and good atmosphere.
When I mentioned market, rworange was right, i was thinking fish market mainly and those sidewalk crab stands. is any of those market stands particularly interesting?
Recommendations for Waikiki/Honolulu?
Thank you so much. We'll look into these threads. How about great brunch places?
Per Se or Eleven Madison?
Per Se hands down in all aspects, its at a completely different league compared to EMP and Cru.
Recommendations for Waikiki/Honolulu?
Help please?! We're visiting late Dec/beg Jan and we've got no ideas at all on where or what to chow while we're there. Something unique/local would be great too.
