Bouley Lunch Tasting Menu Review: Best Fine Dining Deal in NYC

This is good to hear. Many years ago (at least ten) a client took me to Bouley's for lunch. It was amazing. In addition to the five courses, they kept throwing in more food. It was one of the most amazing lunches ever - certainly for the price.

Celebrity chef - whose got the best restaurant?

No one mentioned Annisa. Anita Lo is a celebrity chef - she has been on Top Chef Masters (and i think something else) and i have frequently seen her at the restaurant.

Reasonable wait for ramen in/near East Village on Saturday night?

Personally I am really amazed when I see that people are willing to wait hours for ramen at Ippudo. Hours in NYC when there are at least a dozen other good places to go within walking distance..

Not so happening places near Hilton Midtown

sorry - i was thinking of Estiatoria Milos. You are right that Molyvos is not that expensive. and is very good.

Not so happening places near Hilton Midtown

I think most people would put Molyvos in the "have to refinance my house" category. Maybe not EMP or Per Se expensive, but there are a lot of steps btw a dinner and Molyvos.

Which French restaurant?

I didn't think you could eat anything other than steak/frites at Le Relais de Venise.

My mum and aunt are going to NY. Guess who needs to do the planning?

I must say that i am a woman in my early 60's and I don't think Shake Shack is the way to go - long lines for a hamburger. What about Bryant Park Grill? Or if that is too expensive, Szechuan Gourmet is right near there. You could even do Eataly for lunch. With the exception of a few top end places, you can go almost anywhere in decent jeans.

Please help me choose for a Thursday night dinner

i have never been to Louro, but although I love Perilla, I agree it doesn't really feel special. MF has a more festive feel to it.

Yopparai is fantastc!

I agree. I loved it the first time we went and sat at the bar. Went back with friends and sat at a table and the experience is not as good. It is definitely a two person event.

Best restaurants for low carb/paleo eaters when dining out

wouldn't a Korean barbecue place work? You could have grilled meats, grilled vegetables, and I would think that most of the assorted side dishes (can't recall the technical term) would work. Is there a problem with kimche?

Broadway Bites (Food Vendor Market) - 33rd and Broadway - 10/28 to 11/24

Why is there never anything like this uptown. I work at 59th and Park - no good food trucks, no interesting markets, just salads.

Long Gone But Not Forgotten! Manhattan Memories

I loved Caliban. I lived down the street. They had the best steak tartar. It was not mushed up with a lot of "stuff" - basically just ground sirloin. Not too finely chopped. So funny that so many people remember it.

A restaurant owner told me that Yelp reviews are the most valuable to him

I use Yelp not for the reviews, but simply to tell me what is around where I want to eat. I then do separate research on the places themselves. I also use it to remind me of places in a particular neighborhood. Sort of like using the Yellow Pages - for those of you old enough to remember that.

Chinese takeout - UES

I have been ordering happily from Wa Jeal for many years, but I had recently heard about a relatively new place, A Jiao, which is closer to where I live. So, last night we ordered from them. Although the Dan Dan noodles were good, IMO none of the food was as good as the counterparts at Wa Jeal. This was particularly true of the twice cooked pork with spicy capsicum. Has anyone else done this taste test?

Andananda on 69th and Bway. I don't know if it is a secret, but it isn't usually very crowded.

Lamb ribs

did you see the recipe in Food and Wine. They also call for pomegranate molasses. But they use cumin, cinnamon and other spices. I guess I need to find pomegranate molasses.
I agree with the no-boil set. We have always grilled our pork ribs on indirect heat. You just have to cook them for a very long time.

Lamb ribs

thanks acgold7. I admit the 500F blast is appealing and I love lamb rare. is there a grill version of that? I don't think my gas grill gets up to 500F

Lamb ribs

I love making spareribs in the summer. I marinade them overnight in a dry rub and then place them on a rib rack (so they are standing, not on the actual grill) and cook them for about 3-4 hours using indirect heat. There are members of my family who don't eat pork, so I thought I would make lamb ribs. Can I use the same method or will the get over cooked? Should lamb ribs be rare?

Pre-Theater Dinner Spot

I totally agree with your concept, although Ma Peche might work simply because it is dim sum. We tend to prefer small plates pre-theater or sushi because you don't get weighed down and fall asleep during the theater (although we have done Five Napkin pre and post theater). Recently went to yakitori totto before Manhattan theater club, would recommend similar types of places. Thai is also a nice idea.

I can't choose! Marc Forgione, Louro or Pearl & Ash for a Sunday night. Who's been to all and has a strong preference?

I have only been to P&A and MF. Liked both very much, but couldn't be more different. P&A is totally creative, fabulous food (small plates), not much on comfort, very loud. MF more traditional, also fabulous food - menu basically in three courses - much more comfortable, also loud, but not as intensely loud. I suspect P&A would be a bigger change from NoMad.

Yummy Lobster Rolls in NYC

No. The lobster rolls in Maine are better because there is almost nothing in them but lobster meat. And you can't beat the prices.
