Cava Wine Bar in New Canaan, CT - Now a Top Pick in Town

Give a quick rundown of prices for Apps, Pasta, Secondi?

Really bugs me when restaurants still do not post their prices or a PDF menu online. These days its almost as bad as the flash intro. Its 2011 put a PDF of your menu on your website.

I probably would have tried Scene/Cava already if they had. Im a young professional with an interest in food so I really try to make my limited dining budget count.

Two different burgers at Sal de la Terre?

Whenever I see the name Sal de la Terre I am always reminded of the extremely mediocre meal that I had my only time there

what is all the hype about?

Clio Recommendations

do the tasting its great

the butter poached lobster is pretty awesome

and some coffee truffle thing he made on Iron Chef was a highlight

Tell me about Lineage recently...

any other good choices in the area?

Fireplace seems to be the only other that is popping in my head...?

or is Lineage my best bet for some drinks and maybe apps at the bar?

Tell me about Lineage recently...

looking to go soon since I live in the area and have been meaning to do it. looking to go their for a second date... We went to Eastern Standard last week and it was great. I dont want someplace that is too quiet, and Im afraid thats what I might be getting...

Another thought I had was Azure down in Copley. Whatever bar is in that lobby has always looked rather nice but Ive never poked my head in before. Hoping it wont be too bad on a Thursday right after work

Does James Hook Serve Lunch...?

can I go down there and grab a lobster roll still....?

or even better will they open up some Oysters for me?

any idea of prices on oysters vs. going to Neptune or the like?

Suckling Pig at ESK

did this come with a strawberry sauce and cracklins on top?

i think the chef was toying around with this dish a few months ago.... its new right?

Azure- Lenox hotel?

Ive been twice recently and had a really good time on both visits.

The waitstaff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating to my requests and questions on both occasions.

My girlfriend and I tend to order a bunch of apps or smaller plates and share them with each other over the course of a few hours and bottles of wine. This restaurant is perfect for that type of dining. You will have a very hard time deciding what to get.

Cocktails are fun in presentation and thoughtfully prepared

Harvest tonight - any menu recs?

The duo of beef was really good when I was there last (probably in the fall).

Stay away from the raw bar, its mediocre at best

The patio is great

Whats New at Eastern Standard?

last time I was there I had this INCREDIBLE pork special. The waitress said it was a 4 day process of breaking down and cooking the baby pig.

So anyone been recently? Whats good/new on the menu for summer?

"Off the Menu Special" Eastern Standard

Im assuming they tell everyone...?

however, this was a thursday night and it was only about half full. I was sitting at the bar drinking a Sazerac and the manager came over and chatted me up regarding the drink. I think it caught his eye that Im only 23 and ordering that cocktail. He proceeded to tell me about the history of the drink and how he feels its the best on their menu, etc. etc.

He was the one to later offer the pork

He also brought over two glasses of desert wine on the house

"Off the Menu Special" Eastern Standard

baby pig that the chef totally broke down and slow cooked

i was told that it was a four day process, it was one of the best things I have ever put into my mouth

Eastern Standard - Whats THE Best...?!

Im kind of a whore for the charcuterie and cheese plates. For less than $25 bucks you get a huge assortment of different tastes that you can eat over the course of a few glasses of wine.

Its what I always do and i wanted something different, though I think i will end up doing my typical ESK ritual of the almost 2 hour "premeal"

Eastern Standard - Whats THE Best...?!

What did you have the last time you were there, was it good or bad?

Anyone get oysters?

Eastern Standard - Whats THE Best...?!

is this the current menu on the website?

Eastern Standard - Whats THE Best...?!

So Im going to Eastern Standard tomorrow night for my birthday. Just me and the lady. Taking off Friday from work, but since everyone else I know will be home sleeping, Im really looking to spend the night relaxing at ESK.

I have an 830 reservation, but plan on sitting on the patio for a drink before hand. The plan post meal is to sit in the lounge area until they kick us out.

So folks, Ive been before and since I am a huge fan of the raw bar & offal/charcuterie I tend to mix and match this stuff with some beers. However, this time Id like to get some real apps and entrees. Whats good on the menu right now (including raw bar and nasty bits)???

I also love a good cocktail, but Im a fairly traditional guy when it comes to that. Their drink menu excites and scares me. Enlighten me.

FAT TIRE BEER

Fat Tire is a specific beer brewed by the New Belgium Brewing Company out of Colorado

they actually make quite a few extremely tasty beers, and its a damn shame you cant purchase them out east. I haven't seen them anywhere in CT or MA, including some very big specialty beer stores.

Back in college I lived with 9 other guys one year in a big house. 5 of them were from Denver and would drive out in a caravan of U-Hauls. Lets just say that half of one U-Haul was literally filled with New Belgium. If I am correct they brought out upwards of 30 cases (yes 24s).

Beehive: 80 Seat Patio?

Just out of curiosity, how many seats does Beehive have currently? Ive wanted to go forever but its still packed

Beehive: 80 Seat Patio?

Ive heard some rumors floating around of Beehive opening up a large patio for the summer

anyone know any details??? Someone was telling me that it will be a different menu consisting of snacks that they will bring you in a picnic type basket.

Not sure where he heard this, but figured someone here would know about it

Green Street: Summer Menu Yet?

Love Love Love Green Street in the fall and winter, but I havent been back in a few months.

Have they changed that menu up yet for the summer? I really cant imagine eating 3/4 of their menu when the temperture is over 60. Great stuff but I feel like a bear getting ready for hibernation after a meal there.

So they can do the whole heavy stick to your ribs thing exceptionally well. Can they do lighter summer grub?

Clio or Uni ???

The tasting menu at Clio is $125 and includes a few dishes from Uni. The wine pairing is another $100. Everyone at the table must get the tasting.

You must be really open for the tasting menu. Duck Tongue and Razor Clams was one of the dishes... Was fantastic but some people have a hard time getting over the nasty bits and just accepting that they taste great.

Ok, so Mistral or Clio this Saturday

Sounds like they will really do whatever you want

now the big question, $$$$ ??

Ok, so Mistral or Clio this Saturday

How would you go about expresing this to the waiter?

Im just not sure the procedure here

id rather do a shortened tasting than just getting apps and entree

Ok, so Mistral or Clio this Saturday

is it possible to do something in the 7-9 course range, i dont think i really want to be sitting down for 12-15 at 9:30

and if someone could drop a price range on me for 7-9 that would be fantastic! i just want to have an idea

Ok, so Mistral or Clio this Saturday

So if I wasnt to get a tasting menu would one starter and one entree be suffcient? or would you want to order more than that?

what I really want to do is have them do a 7 course for us, but I dont know what it would cost or if they would go into it half assed

Ok, so Mistral or Clio this Saturday

Im sticking with the 9:30, so with that in mind

Please give me some help with what/how to order. anything worth getting from the Uni menu?

Ok, so Mistral or Clio this Saturday

Reading through the rest of this board it looks like 930 is way too late to request a tasting menu of any kind.

please advise!

Ok, so Mistral or Clio this Saturday

So you can request a certain number of courses and the type of courses you want?

For example, could I say Id like 4 savory, a cheese, and two sweet? how much would this run?

Thank you guys for your help

Ok, so Mistral or Clio this Saturday

Thats a great tip for the wine! Have you done this before? I feel like I would almost be a bit hesitant to ask for a split pour.

So the chef's whim is more of a true chef's menu where you can direct them with your preferences? Considering our 930 reservation would this be acceptable? Ive never been and I know certain restaurants have very different attitudes towards these things

Ok, so Mistral or Clio this Saturday

I went ahead and booked Clio. By complete experience I meant I was looking for more of that formal, "Im here to dine" feeling if that makes sense. For example I love Eastern Standard, I eat there a few times a month, but its not what I would call a dining experience fit for an anniversary.

Anyway, is there a tasting menu at Clio? If so would it be printed up? My girlfriend is pretty good about eating different things, but she has this hurdle with spending so much money and not knowing what she is getting. Also, any idea on cost of their degustation?
