Middletown CT Area/Dinners for 6

My family (4 adults, 2 teeens) will be traveling to Middletown this weekend and we're looking for good casual dinner spots for Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights. Italian, (Northern or Southern), French bistro (yeah roast chickens!) and whatever the New American/Eclectic/Upscale Comfort Food thing is called. Was that a sentence? Anyway, two other things to note - we will gladly drive 1/2 hour to 40 minutes for an incredible meal & price is not an issue.

PS: If there is a pastry/doughnut/ice cream place not to be missed please let me know. We are shameless consumers of sugar.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Somewhere near Kimmel for appetizers/cocktails?

FYI - if you go early 5:30-6 (before a Kimmel event), Vintage is pretty quiet & smoke was not a problem for me & I am also a nonsmoker. They seem to have a more than adequate ventilation/fan system.

Seeking Solace in the form of Milkshake

My niece has just moved to Chicago, Lakeview area & I'd like to steer her to some great shakes. She's a big fan of Black & Whites and mochas..any suggestions?

Unfortunately, A lot of the stuff that showed up when I did a search seemed outdated. You guys have always been great at steering me to praise-worthy spots for specific foods (thank you thank you thank you for the roast chicken recommendations!) & I look forward to passing along your advice.

I've been to Vintage twice now & really like it. They have a great selection of wines (the servers/bartenders seem knowledgeable & made great suggestions) & the food is very good, fresh & simply prepared.
I loved the onion soup -though the portion was a little smaller than expected. Cheese & charcuterie plates are good for sharing & they do a good burger. Last time I went my friend & I split an excellent duck leg entree with black lentils.

The crowd is interesting, not intimidating, a nice mix of young & old. I prefer eating at the bar - the service was faster than when we sat at a table, so that may be a consideration if you're going on to the Kimmel.

Prices are moderate.

Sylvia - so glad you're enjoying August.

I think my husband's going to go through tilapia withdrawal - I may have to place him in some kind of program.

I'm going tonight to get my fix. There's a woody romaine sald with a parmesan/lemon dressing that I can't get enough of...
