Where to buy feuilletine in the GTA?
Hmn.. not sure about the small quantities. Are you in contact with ALC still? He may have some on hand to sell or split a box with you...
...or I'd take some. Love that stuff! XD And I have a cake-making project soon...
Two Gems
These guys are food truck/TUM circuit peeps. You can find 'em commonly at those events. FG is also at the ROM Friday Nights thing (or they were).
Rock Lobster's rolls are really tasty.
Is there Singaporean Laksa in Toronto?
Thanks for the update szw! I was debating about when to brave Pac Mall again - weekends are usually when I have time, but those are the worst hours! Maybe sometime in the morningish...
Is there Singaporean Laksa in Toronto?
Oooh, really?! I didn't know. I've been eating chicken rice at Phoenix, which is only okay-lah at best.
Is there Singaporean Laksa in Toronto?
Agreed. Love One2 snacks!! Especially their kuih dadar.
Is there Singaporean Laksa in Toronto?
Yep. Gourmet Malaysia, and across the street from where Gourmet Garden used to be.
Is there Singaporean Laksa in Toronto?
edit: *the flavours aren't what one would call authentically (and soley) Singaporean.
Further thought: I liken it to coming to Canada to learn how to cook Chinese food and end up Canadian-Chinese. It's got its place, but it's not what someone looking for Chinese food would necessarily seek out.
Is there Singaporean Laksa in Toronto?
If you're looking for Australian-Singaporean foods, Hawker Bar could be a good place - I'm not positive since I don't know what that would taste like. I do know that currently, the flavours aren't what one would call authentic. I was pretty disappointed.
Best cupcakes in T.O.?
I've been following along on your adventure. Props to you for a most through breakdown :)

best salads in Toronto- 2012
Jicama and papaya salad at Banh Mi Boys. Fresh, cheap, tasty.
Hawker Bar
After eating the entire menu, I feel that this is the Australian version Sing hawker food. Or something. Just not real Sing/Malay hawker food. It's not even close.
Please stick with Gourmet Garden, Lion City, Restoran... they're all going to be more authentic and will more closely match your expectations of eating in Singapore and Malaysia. Going to Hawker Bar will disappoint on so many levels (even discounting authenticity).
Funny enough, I showed my family - and specifically my aunt/cousin from Singapore - and they couldn't stop making fun of the food (visuals only). But it's true.. you can totally tell. The rendang! It's ...saucy!! And the chicken rice was ... boiled.
Sorry. Had to rant. Stopping now.
Friend coming for a few days from London, England. What can't she get across the pond that we do well here?
There are lots of chocolatiers, but very few chocolate makers (bean-to-bar). Soma's worth visiting if there isn't anything accessible/similar in London.
Supi Cucu hot sauce: where is it available?
Just in case anyone wants to see what the bottles look like, I just did a quickie post on the Diablo's Fuego:
"Diablo’s Fuego is probably one of the most delicious hot sauces I’ve eaten in a long while. I first encountered chef Rossy Earle’s hot sauce at the inaugural Food Truck Eats event last year in little squeeze bottles. Since then, she’s put jars of this lovely condiment on the shelves of select Toronto shops. This fantastic hot sauce has a complex smokey and garlicky taste to it, finished with a vinegary tang. Really tasty. Great on pretty much anything. Like eggs and green beans for lunch."
Soooo tasty. XD

and the sake brewery there, though that doesn't scream "Toronto"
Need a foodie friendly "lux dive"
Enjoyed the sticks at Bellwoods a lot; pig's heart, duck heart, lamb's tongue - all great flavours and well executed. Also, the pork rinds were airy porky goodness.
Beers were all surprisingly good. So many for a tiny brewery!! Enjoyed my porter best.
Scarpetta at the Thompson Hotel
I'm totally opposite of caitlink.
Loved the polenta but hated the spaghetti. The spagetti was mushy and I've had better pasta in other locations in the city (Campagnolo, Enoteca Sociale, and Buca are top of mind).
Mind, this was a while ago. Here were my notes:
Polenta. Not my favourite thing in the world, but considered one of Scarpetta’s signature dishes and nothing like the fried puck I had been expecting. It was, however, the mushroom sauce that made this dish. A really fragrant and rich broth spooned upon a yellow bowl of creamy cornmeal – a delicious mouthful indeed.
The Fritto Misto was executed quite well and included zucchini, eggplant, and calamari. A light hand with the batter was deftly at work here. The fried parsley was an excellent addition.
A very different twist on the standard, the Waygu beef tartare had peanuts, truffle oil, cumin, sumac, coriander, and fennel. I felt it was too aggressively spiced and it drowned out the flavour of the beef.
Moist-roasted capretto with rapini, pancetta, and potatoes. I wanted this to have a stronger goat flavour, which is likely the unpopular opinion. I also didn’t find this as moist as I’d thought it would be.
The highly touted spaghetti is done simply with tomato and basil. While decent, I can’t say that this was the best I’d ever had. I have a different profile of this dish in my mind and felt the sauce was too sweet, and the pasta just a little too soft, for me.
The Red beet and smoked ricotta casonsei came in a poppy-seed sauce. An interesting pasta with a little hit of sweetness.
Black tagliolini with Nova Scotia lobster, tomatoes, and basil bread crumbs. Very tasty and visually appealing. I liked the flavours melding and clinging to the delicate bands of black pasta. I would order this again.
Originally paired with another dish, I requested a separate order of the burnt-orange caramel gelato to try. Lighter in flavour than I was expecting it to be – I think I wanted something with a darker sugar taste that bordered on bitter.
On a whim, I ordered the goat cheese cheesecake sided with mango granita and pistachio brittle. The cheesecake was nice and not as “goaty” as I feared it might be. But the brittle, by far, was the best thing on that plate. I could have eaten more of that.
The Amaretto Flan was sided with a rosemary roasted apricot and marsala zabaglione gelato. Somehow, I was picturing a light-coloured flan, so this almost chocolate-looking cube surprised me. I do not recall any specific tasting notes on this dessert.

The Campagnolo Thread - Hits and misses?
I love sitting at the chef's bar. It overlooks the kitchen and they're generally good at chatting with people there. I enjoy talking with the chefs and staff and like watching the action by the stoves.
If you want some alone-time, this isn't your best bet; it's bar seating (of up to four), facing into the kitchen.
If it's worth or distracting is up to you and what kind of date you want!
Burger's Priest vs. Holy Chuck vs. Stockyards
Well, at least I can easily find out if they'd be good... I work at that corner! Are they not open yet?
Banh Mi Boys
Just wanted to update:
- Kimchi fries (smoked pulled pork, kimchi, some mayo, on fries. TASTY)
- Jicama salad (lightly pickled carrots, fresh-tasting, with hoisin/peanut sauce)
Banh Mi still good. Need to try their squid taco.
Latest Charlie Burger
Payment includes gratuity and cash-only was how I did it last time.

I'd love to go just to shoot. I don't think I could both shoot and eat >_<
Dim Sum at Dragon Dynasty - Could be some of GTA's best!
I do agree that Yang's is better over all, but you do pay for it!
- Loved the fried sticky rice. That was my favourite dish of dim sum. Worth returning for.
- The siu mai tasted okay, but it looked terrible - not at all presentable. Not worth ordering.
- Har gow was decent
- Pastry on various items was very meh
- Pan fried rice roll was also a favourite.
- Dan tat had cookie crust - which means I didn't eat it (I also knew that we were going to Lucullus, sooo...).
Quite a delicious afternoon! No photos - for once! XD
Toronto’s Best Butter Tarts Aren’t in Toronto
yep. 7 days a week. But they do sell out, so if you're going only for the tart, call ahead.
Soft Shell Crabs
