How do 'gnashingshitfactory' and 'itwillmakeaturd' strike you? I've asked moderators for some clarification on what policy is for user names, but received no reply. |

I find some of the user names on here to be just outright disgusting, and certainly not the kinds of things I want to think of when it comes to food. Some people think themselves very clever, when they are actually quite puerile. |

Hidden Gems - list your fave Vancouver hole-in-the-wall I like Double D Pizza in my 'hood of Kits/Point Grey - $7.50 for a baked pasta that is sufficient for 2 meals, with salad and garlic toast on the side. It's like home cooking. |

Floris Ninkeberry Belgian beer in Vancouver? Part of the beauty of Belgian beer is that there are no rules, compared with something like the German Reinheitsgebot, which says use only water, malt, hops and yeast. I'm a beer geek, and I would never limit myself with authenticity hoaxes - I might miss out on something great. |

Floris Ninkeberry Belgian beer in Vancouver? Sorry, to clarify, Liquor Depot is calling itself Point Grey Beer and Wine, and they do have a fair number of Belgian beers. |

Floris Ninkeberry Belgian beer in Vancouver? Try Liberty Wine Merchants on W. 10th and Trimble. Or the Liquor Depot on B-way around Waterloo. ----- |

Pub or Restaurant recommendation please Alibi Room is great, but it can be loud, especially downstairs. ----- |

What are some classic Canadian dishes?? Other good Ukrainian suggestions are nalysnyky (baked cheesy crepes) and holopche (cabbage rolls). The Ukrainian Orthodox Church followers do 12 vegetarian dishes on Christmas Eve, might be worth looking into those. There's nothing like a Ukrainian wedding on the Canadian Prairie for a great feed. |

Best Vegetarian, Veg-Friendly and Pescatarian restaurants in Vancouver? Calabash Bistro at 428 Carrall does good Caribbean styled vegetarian. It's in a bit of a dodgy part of town, but it's worth it. |

Try searching on craigslist using the search term 'grolsch'. |

Alibi Room has the best selection of BC beer (on taps and in casks) with the highest turnover. Granville Island Brewing is actually owned by MolsonCoors, or whatever they're called. Myself, I think the best BC breweries are the ones in Victoria like Phillips and Driftwood. Alibi Room will have their stuff. My favourite Vancouver made brew is Storm's Hurricane IPA, and it is best supped at The Whip. I like the Whip's menu, too. ----- |

La Regalade opening up in Kitsilano? Canny of him to recognise that the business wasn't working and to then make the moves to try to make it work. I'm looking forward to it. It seems like too many have been trying to do the same old coffee/pizza/pub food in this area, and something different could be just what the doctor ordered. It seems to be working for La Ghianda. |

It is just a couple or three blocks out of Yaletown, but the Calabash Cafe (discussed recently on another thread here) has pretty good veg selections. They have specials in addition to the online menu. I had a very tasty chick pea stew. |

YVR West Broadway Greengrocers-Brutal Competition Knocks Out Two Players I'm near the corner of Alma and 4th, and I used to go up to W. Broadway for groceries a lot more frequently. Since the IGA and No Frills have moved in, I don't do the walk anymore. And now that Transylvania is over here, all I have to do any more is grocery shop, cook, and grow fat... |

Opinion: Best Sushi In Vancouver List.. +1 for Ajisai. Nice vegetarian choices, and the best tasting rolls I've had. |

Expanding Food Carts in Vancouver - as choosen by Foodies? What is different? Too many people are running around Vancouver looking at working some kind of angle, instead of putting forth a real effort and creating something worthwhile. Vancouver had too many permittees that treated the whole idea like it was some sort of arena for real estate speculation. That just added costs without adding a shred of value. |

transylvanian peasant bread in vancouver Transylvania looks like it will open soon in Beyond Bread, a new bakery in the Alma/4th Ave neighbourhood. |

I got word today that Yoka's Coffee roaster is moving to Victoria. D'ooohhh! It's a loss of excellent selection, ma/pa/local business, and great prices. They plan to do mail-order from their new location, but their presence in Kits shall be sorely missed. |

I had the individual sized St Honore cake - light and delicious. |

Olympic International/National Houses - comments/reviews appreciated I checked out the Saskatchewan pavilion...$8 for a bison burger or a lentil burger - as a vegetarian, I take a stand and refuse to pay the same as eat-meaters. $6 for 6 perogies, probably frozen and machine made - pass. $5 for two saskatoon berry tarts - I had to go for this, I am a sucker for saskatoons - sadly, they were more like tartlets. They were tasty though. $8 for a plastic cup of corporate 'beer' - pass. Overall rating - meh. |

U-Brew Beer Recommendation for Vancouver? This place is a lot like West Coast UBrew, a little off the beaten path: http://www.brewcastle.com/ |

Kishu, Zocalo, Slickety Jim's and Lugz Coffee Lounge-all gone up in flames I didn't get over there nearly enough, but I really liked Slickity Jim's. Bummer. |

vegetarian restaurants in Vancouver I just looked at the menu for Greens in SF, and I am going to go cry myself to sleep now. |

vegetarian restaurants in Vancouver +1 |

vegetarian restaurants in Vancouver Sorry, no such place in Vancouver. The vegetarian places here tend to be hipster doofus as opposed to erudite urbanite. (The time I tried Radha, I was underwhelmed.) When I want upscale veg, I just go to a place like West that makes accommodations for our patronage. |

Thanks for your offer, most appropriately named eatruistic - I need about 5-10 lbs, so I won't tax your supply. I did spot an ad on craigslist today, placed by some folks who will be bringing Montmorencies to Vancouver on Monday nights, while they are in season. I'm going to order up some up and get brewing some homemade kriek. |

Thanks for the feedback, all. I have some following up to do... (Vicfoodie, I'm seeking fresh.) |

I plan to make some homebrew with cherries and am reading everywhere that I need to get sour cherries. A brewer in the Straight today says he gets his from a place in Aldergrove, but I am wondering if anyone here knows where I can find some a little closer to Kits? |

The Foundation at 2301 Main St. - some people aren't big on the revolutionista hipster doofus stylings, but the food is pretty darned good, and big portions. Don't bother: |

Very interesting stuff, Leibowitz, thank you for that. It gives me all the more reason to feel good about the fact that I switched to brewing my own at home. |
