What did you or your Mom make when you were sick?

Not a damn thing. As an adult, it's my homemade chicken soup with really good toasted sourdough. And trashy TV.

Do your friends invite you to dinner?

This is one of the saddest posts ever...for both you and your brother. I'll echo Escondido.

What did you have for breakfast today?

Coffee and a five hour.

You knew you mastered the fine art of cooking or baking when you ______________.

When my husband said he'd rather stay home and eat my latest experiment than go out for dinner.

You knew you mastered the fine art of cooking or baking when you ______________.

+1 in a big way!!!!

"We're not ready for our entrees yet..."

This happened to us last night, where there was a misunderstanding that we wanted our hot food to come out after our sushi. They were quick to take it back, made new plates when we were ready and so accomodating, that we definitely will go back. And next time, make sure we're clear on our food staging.

"We're not ready for our entrees yet..."

If my first experience with a restaurant is hurried service, but good food, we'll go to this method on our subsequent visits. For example, one time at a local place, we ordered a bottle of wine, our app and our main at the same time. App came our long before the wine showed up. So we order our drinks, wait for them, then order the rest of the meal at this place. Works fine.

What was the worst food you HAD to eat as a kid?

Can only eat mayo once a year. Yep, the day after Thanksgiving, with leftover sliced breast on toasted sourdough. But just the one sandwich. Never liked it, and never understood it.

Portion control at a dinner party

Was forced to cook Tday dinner at SIL house this year, our rental was too small. Made the normal amount of gravy, didn't realize there were gravy fiends invited and we ran out. Was mortified, but hey, I didn't know these people would require a quart each.

You are my lost twin.

Pay It Forward [moved from Philadelphia]

In my line of work with a nonprofit, it varies from donor to donor. Some want the phone call, some want the email, some want a hand written note. I don't send out form letters as a thank you. I dislike them. And every time I talk to the donor, they really appreciate a personal touch and the fact that I'm not asking them for another gift, I'm just thanking them for what they have already done.

Dinner Party Etiquette: Bringing AND cooking your own food?

Tactful and effective. +1

what is your family's coolest thanksgiving tradition?

This year, we're starting a new tradition. I lost my dad last Thanksgiving Day, and this year, as I gather with my husband and his family, we're lifting a glass and toasting him. Then eating everything in sight, making bets on the football games and eating pie for supper. All the things he loved to do.

I miss him so.

tips for fixing broken tastebuds caused by a broken heart?

My heart goes out to you, having been in that place before. I began to heal my tastebuds by eating all the things that my ex hated/banned/disparaged. Just a little at a time, not all at once. I had forgotten just how good chicken livers tasted.....

Good Butcher

Best butcher in town. They carry 3 and under ribs, and are always happy to split and/or tip them for you.

Best/Worst products - Fresh & Easy

Love the balsamic glaze on veggies.

What is the worst thing you've been served and ate?

My mom would do some vile thing with ribs in the oven. It was years before I had them cooked the way they were supposed to be and not covered with Mrs. Dash.

Tried Five Guys--What's the big deal?? [moved from Las Vegas]

But you do have options for toppings at In n Out. Animal style. Light mustard instead of the spread. Grilled onions. Etc., etc.

Funniest Thing a Server Said to You

Las Vegas, Little Rock, and Denver airports all do the same.

Funniest Thing a Server Said to You

Me too and always in the Midwest.

frozen fish

+1 on the Wild Alaskan Salmon at Costco. Sear, pan roast and topped with a dab of wasabi sauce. A huge hit in our house.

Funniest Thing a Server Said to You

One of the funniest wine tasting stories I have EVER read....

"Romantic" yet ironic home-cooked meals: Any good stories?

We had been dating a couple weeks, and one night he called and said "why don't you come over and I'll make tacos? I'm famous for my tacos!" Okay, I went over about a half hour later and he was slicing up salami and putting mustard into a dipping cup. "I realized I would have to go out and buy everything, so I know you like this and are probably too hungry to wait for me to make tacos." He did make tacos eventually, they were the best and we've been married for a year and a half now.

Dissapointing Dinner at Friends House

+1. Nothing worse than a box wine hangover.

Using internet discount coupons on your birthday

++1

Cooking with your significant other.

When I started dating my now husband, he was over one night at my place. My F & W magazine had just come in the mail, and I was reading through some of the recipes to see if there was anything I was interested in trying. "What are you reading?" "F & W" "Why?" "To see which recipes I might try." Total blank look. He'd never had a girlfriend or wife that knew how to cook. His favorite phrase from me is now "I'm trying this new recipe for dinner." And so far, there's only been a couple he didn't care for.

There seems to be a downward trend at many of the restaurants at the Wynn. It's too bad, the buffett used to be excellent.
