Leonardo Trattoria does not serve ice water!
You are so right but I guess we were caught completely off guard by this.
Leonardo Trattoria does not serve ice water!
About 2 weeks ago a group of us went to Leonardo Trattoria at 709 St. Charles Ave after attending a concert for Wednesdays at the Square. When the waitress came by we all ordered alcoholic drinks. After she delivered our drinks, we asked for ice waters for the table. She informed us that their policy is that they do not serve ice water at the restaurant. Now we all at the table found this to be unbelievable. Let's face it, Leonardo Trattoria is far far from fine dining in a city such as New Orleans. Also fine dining establishments such as, Commander's Palace, do serve ice water.
After being told we could not have something so simple as water that is not bottled, we asked to speak to a manager. The manager went on to explain that Leonardo's has high standards and that they will not serve ice water. One person at our table then asked if we could possibly have filtered water to which the manager said, "you all can just leave, no need to pay for these drinks!"
Now I am not sure what the owners of such an establishment created as a business plan, but this move would seem to be stupid to a table of 6 looking to eat and drink. What do you think?

Bouche
I could not agree with you more. I would bet money on the fact that they will not be in business by next year. I also hear that the food is not that great. When they get realistic about prices, they might make a profit.
Please critique my planned NO weekend feast
Luke is not all that great. I would truly try somewhere else such as Herbsaint, La Boca, Tommy's Cuisine. Mahoney's is the worst. We waited 45 minutes for sandwiches that were just edible. Johnny's Poboys in the quarter or Domilisie's uptown would be a more intelligent choice. Patois is not good. The service was awful and we almost had to get our own drinks from the bar because the waiter would not come around. The food again was just ok. All of your other choices are wonderful. I eat out a lot in New Orleans and I see no reason to not be always having a fantastic meal. I hope this helps.
Leonardo Trattoria and Prego
This restaurant and the sauce have much in common. They both have cheap ingredients and should be eaten by people who know nothing better. I had eaten at Leonardo's twice before last night and had good meals. The only gross thing before last night was watching the owner eat like an ape the way he holds his fork and shovels food, literally, into his mouth. Last night the owner cooked the food and it was the worst Italian food I have ever had. Even Olive Garden in the 80's was was better. Last nights theme was cheap ingredients and showing a lack of culinary skills. I eat out all the time and now I will never go back. What a shame for somewhere that had so much potential. They will not be long lasting in New Orleans.
West Indies Cafe
Three of us went to West Indies Cafe last night and I was rather unimpressed with the food. I have been to Baru twice and enjoyed both times. The owner of West Indies used to be in business with his nephew the owner Baru so I thought it would be good as well. We started by ordering 9 tapas. Later in the meal we were informed that the kitchen realized they could not make 2 of them. Of the 7 we got, the first 3 were: ceviche (great), crab claws (crab not fresh, dipping sauce was best part of this tapa), and the chorizo plate (chorizo tasted as if it had been left in a turned off fridge with way too many potatos). Next were the mussels which were great, the tuna which comes with avocado on the side was great, but the shrimp cocktail was not cold and drenched in a sweet mayo sauce. We ended with a tuna salad with cheese in which the avocados were completely unripe. I must say the drinks were good but overall I would never go back to have so many items just 'ok.' Clearly the kitchen at this restaurant needs a change in staff if they expect to stay in business in New Orleans.
Need recs for a birthday dinner
Right around the corner from your hotel are quite a few good restaurants: La Boca is an Argentine steakhouse, Tommy's Cuisine has seafood and Italian food, Rio Mar has Latin seafood, and Ruth Chris steakhouse is in your hotel. All of these options are truly great places.
Prix Fixe menus?
GW Fins on Bienville in the French Quarter is doing a $30 3 course dinner for the month of September. The choices looked pretty good.
Pupusas and Taco Stands?
Jazz Tacos at 307 Exchange Alley in the french quarter is great. It is owned by some Honduran ladies and is fantastic. I have not tried the pupusas but they are on the menu and everything else I have tried has been really good.
Looking for Big Portions of Local food
Johnny's poboys on St. Louis in the quarter has great food and good portions. Also R & O Restaurant out by the lakefront is great.
Food Recommendations for Jacque-Imo's?
The alligator cheesecake is the app to start with. The beggar's purse is fabulous for an entree as well as the acorn squash with seafood. The godzilla meets fried green tomatos is good but not great by any stretch.
Casual Restaurant in Quarter
'Eat' is a good place to try on the corner of Dauphine and Dumaine plus it is BYOB since they don't have a liquor license. FYI the pork tenderloin with mac and cheese is fabulous!
