Best cafes in Stockholm?

From what I understand, Stockholm is a great town for coffee. Where are some of the best cafes to enjoy a cup of joe?

Thanks in advance.

Vienna: Post-opera dining options

Sturmi, you are the great Buddha of this board and I am trying to absorb as much of your wisdom as I can before departing. Thanks so much for taking the time to provide a detailed response to my questions.

Vienna: Post-opera dining options

I'm going to be in Vienna in mid-May for 5 nights and 3 of those nights I will be seeing performances at the Vienna State Opera or the Musikverin. I'm looking for good options for a post-opera bite either near the Staatsoper or in the 7th district, where I'm staying. I'm going to be alone and would like places that have some energy around 10 p.m. In other words, while quality food is a priority, I'd like to avoid overly romantic or sedate restaurants. A younger, hipper vibe would be a plus, but not a necessity.

I have read good things here and elsewhere about the following restaurants in the vicinity of the opera: Gasthaus zur Oper, Zum Finsteren Stern, Figlmüller and Wein & Co. In the 7th district, I've read positive reports about Café-Restaurant Halle, Phoenixhof and Glacis Beisl.

A few questions:

Will all these spots be open after 10 p.m.?

Which of these restaurants fit the description of what I'm looking for (i.e., buzzy, good food, not romantic)?

Besides the restaurants I list above, are there other places that you think would appeal to me?

In New York, where I live, I like to eat at the bar. Is there bar dining in Vienna?

I've seen many of these restaurants described as being places where reservations are required. Are reservations required at all these places as late as 10/10:30 at night?

Is it possible to walk in and get a table/spot at the bar?

Many thanks for any assistance you can provide.

The Vinatta Project

I'm attending a friend's birthday dinner at this new Meatpacking bar/restaurant owned by the crew behind the Mulberry Project. Has anyone been? I'm looking for recommendations for dishes to try or to avoid.

Thanks in advance.

Coffee and lunch near Dia Beacon?

Thank you for all your great recommendations. I spent a lovely day up in Beacon, visiting the remarkable Dia, stopping for a bracing cup of excellent coffee at Bank Square Coffeehouse on Main St. and later visiting Homespun Foods for a lunch on their back patio, a wonderful spot to enjoy the balmy weather. I can strongly recommend the sizable curry turkey salad with apples and cashews, which stood out to me aside a handful of rather pedestrian-looking sandwiches. Before skipping town, I stopped at Zora Dora and for a heavenly lemon poppy paleta. Those of you Manhattanites searching for a good day trip from the city, look no further than Beacon. I'll be back.

Coffee and lunch near Dia Beacon?

Thanks. Is Zora Dora a better option than Jane's Ice Cream?

Stockholm

hungrycomposer, did you ever make it to Stockholm? I'm headed there next month and am looking for some recommendations. I've seen your posts and know you are a credible cat, so I'm hoping you can give me some guidance.

Thanks!

Coffee and lunch near Dia Beacon?

Can anyone recommend a good coffee shop or place to stop for coffee near the Dia Beacon?

Also, I've read some good things on this board about Poppy's on Main St. Is that my best option for lunch near the museum?

Many thanks in advance.

Best Coffee Houses/Bars in NJ?

I second the Warehouse in Jersey City. I've worked in the area for a number of years and this place is a diamond in the rough. It's in a remote, industrial area of JC, though, more reminiscent of Berlin than NYC. That said, I'm a big fan of the place and while the prices are on the higher side, the quality can't be beaten in Jersey City.

Drinks in Greenwich Village?

In the West Village, the Whitehorse Tavern has outdoor seating on Hudson St. Another option, with big windows on the street, but not patio seating, is the underrated Shade Bar on 3rd St. and Sullivan. In SoHo, there's the Yard next to the SoHo Grand (which may not have opened for the season when you're in town -- check with the hotel). Around the corner from the SoHo Grand, on Thompson St., Kittichai has seating in the front of 60 Thompson, where you can sit and have drinks.

Halal carts in SoHo?

I've seen passing references to an excellent halal cart on Houston and Broadway. Does anyone have more details? Which corner? Are there any other halal carts in SoHo worth checking out?

Thanks.

SOHO date night?

I like the Balaboosta and Peasant suggestions. I'd add Vin et Fleurs, on Thompson St., or Snack Taverna and Casa, both on Bedford, neither in SoHo proper, but about a 5 minute walk.

Breakfast in SoHo

rpk, Vin et Fleurs is a very random (albeit intriguing) suggestion. Would you care to elaborate more on your affection for this off-the-radar spot's breakfast? I've been entertaining a visit, but it doesn't get much attention so I've steered clear so far.

Thanks.

Financial District Blues

Based on my limited time in the FiDi, I'd say Fika has the best coffee in the area., at least as far as drip coffee goes. Zibetto's on Fulton was the best option unitil it closed last year.

lunch close to Film Forum?

For something new, you may want to try Melvin's Juice Bar next door to, and affilliated with, Miss Lily's on Sullivan and Houston. Prices are cheaper than Miss Lily's, they offer take-out and the atmosphere is vaguely reminiscent of Cafe Habana. It has yet to be discovered by the hoards, so it should be a quick and easy option.

Where in Manhattan can I get great cannoli to go?

Rocco's on Bleecker between 6th and 7th Aves. The best in Manhattan, as far as I'm concerned.

Brunch at the Dutch

I'm not much of a brunch eater, but I had brunch/lunch with a friend at the Dutch on Sat. and ordered the turkey sandwich with avocado. It's a terrific sandwich. My friend had the pancakes and a side of fresh fruit for $10. Yes, that's $10 for a fresh fruit plate. It came with about 2 oz. of fruit, comically small. I think all the good press the Dutch has been getting has enabled them to get away with this highway robbery. At any rate, I recommend avoiding the $10 fresh fruit plate at all costs.

Lunch at Ippudo - how long is the wait?

I got to Ippudo at 10:45 a.m., 15 minutes before they opened, on Friday, Dec. 29th, and there were already 30 people in line. By the time the restaurant opened, there were probably 75 people in line. When I left, at around 12:15, the wait was 2 hours long for a party of 2. I can't tell you what the wait would be at 1:30 p.m., but I would never attempt to get in after 10:45 a.m.

Weekday Lunch-Only Spots

It's still a good deal, even at $38. That's a pretty hefty price hike. I was there last year and paid $29 for the ardoise menu.

Weekday Lunch-Only Spots

I'm in the same predicament. You may consider La Grenouille, which has a weekday-only, $29, 3-course prix-fixe "chalkboard" menu. 'tis the season for La Grenouille; I can enthusiastically recommend this deal.

Hearty bowl of soup near Carnegie Hall?

Can anyone recommend a place to get a hearty bowl of soup before a concert at Carnegie Hall? My first instinct was to go to Menkui Tei -- the chronically long lines at Totto Ramen put it out of contention -- but am looking for other ideas. I'm not stuck on Japanese and am open to all cuisines.

Thanks in advance.

Minneapolis: 1 Bfast, 1 lunch, 1 Late lunch/early dinner this weekend!

I'm a NYC hound headed to Minneapolis for the first time tomorrow. I'm staying Downtown and will have a car. I've spent a lot of time perusing the board trying to figure out where to have 3 meals in Minneapolis: breakfast Saturday, lunch Saturday and a late lunch/early dinner around 3-4 p.m. on Sunday.

Based on what I've read on this board, Hell's Kitchen looks like a good choice for Saturday breakfast.

What about Saturday lunch? I'd like to try a classic Minneapolis lunch spot if such a thing exists. I don't need anything fancy, but if fancy lunches are what Minneapolis does best, then I'm game. I'm just looking for a quintessential Minneapolis lunch. Thoughts?

Finally, I'm looking to have a final meal on Sunday afternoon around 3-4 p.m. Unfortunately, the most highly praised restaurants on this board -- 112, Saffron, Bar La Grassa, Piccolo, etc. -- all appear to be closed on Sunday around 4 p.m. I'm not too keen on steak, so Manny's is out of the question.

Any ideas, friends?

Thanks in advance!

How long is the wait at Blue Ribbon on Sullivan Street?

I believe they only take reservations for 6. So you're 5 people? The wait on a Sat. night at a prime time for 5 could be 1.5 hours, if not longer.

Are there any more "after hours" bars in The City That Never Sleeps?

Sullivan Room on Sullivan St. is open after-hours, but they don't serve alcohol past 4 a.m.

Fall/Winter Cocktail to Replace My Beloved Negroni

These responses are great! Keep 'em coming!

zin1953, which would be your choice, the Boulevardier or the Sazerac?

Fall/Winter Cocktail to Replace My Beloved Negroni

I will forever associate the Summer of 2011 with my life-enhancing discovery of the Negroni. Before discovering this superb cocktail, I cast about trying newfangled cocktails indiscriminately. As much as I love the Negroni, at its essence, it's a summer drink. I'm looking for recommendations on a fall/winter cocktail to replace the Negroni until next Spring. I favor gin as my spirit, but I'm open to non-gin-based cocktails as well, as long as they're not too sweet.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Weekday breakfast in Philly

This is one of the most responsive Chowhound boards I've ever visited. Many thanks!

I've been to La Colombe before and I like their coffee, but I live in NYC and have regular access to it here. Elixir sounds intriguing. For some reason, it's not coming up on a Google map, but I trust that it's still around. I think the plan is to swing by Elixir for an espresso-based drink, grab a pastry at Nook, and enjoy my breakfast in Rittenhouse Square, weather permitting.
