Truffles's Profile

ISO organic yogurt in a multipack

Liberte organic comes in an 8 pak - I've bought it at both Metro & Loblaws. I think it's about $5.99

Hadn't noticed the organic version at Costco - only the regular. Will have to check that out.

President's Choice Black Label

Yes, they do follow the SCOP. I've benefitted from it on many occasions...

Dark Maple Syrup ..where to buy in Toronto

Saturday St. Lawrence Market - there's a stand outside (Front St. Entrance) of the market that sells light & dark.

Gelato / Ice Cream Challenge - Toronto

I've had whipped cream offered in both Florence and Rome, in different gelaterias..

Roti and/or Jerk Chicken

If you're eating roti in Trinidad/Guyana, or in a Trinidadian or Guyanese household in north america - you're more than likely not eating it wrapped up - you're tearing bits of roti and using it as a spoon for your curry - hence there's no need for boneless...

And cooking meat on the bone does make for better flavour....

Prairie Girl Bakery

You're not the lone dissenter - I tried a strawberry mini and did not like the crumb of the cupcake, although the icing was (just) ok - it didn't make we want to eat the lemon full size that I also bought, so I gave it away. My husband thought the Red Velvet was awful...

Frozen, grated cassava (yucca) in GTA with parking??

No Frills carries fresh Cassava.

Trip to Buffalo N.Y. what grocery items would you bring back? (moved from Ontario board)

Take a cooler with you - Haagen Dazs flavours that aren't available here are always on my list!

ISO Buckwheat flour

I think the place in SLM you're looking for is called Rubes. They definitely have it. When you walk into the store the buckwheat flour is on your left.

Movenpick Ice Cream!

Sprungli makes the most amazing truffles....

They also ship to Canada (at least they used to!)

drinks after starfish, within walking distance

The Consort at the King Eddy has always been a favourite..

Roti

Yes, they do. And they're excellent...

Where to find dried lavender in Toronto?

I've purchased it downstairs in the St. Lawrence Market

Loblaw's = downhill

Agreed - but you have to shop early or they run out and don't restock a lot of items...

mini cupcakes and fried chicken

Harlem for fried chicken?

ISO instant espresso powder

I think I finally found it at Bonnie Stern's store.

"That Corner Spot" at Front & Jarvis

The sandwich board on the sidewalk says "Mill St. Brewery".

All-Clad in Toronto

The Bay, William Ashley & Williams Sonoma sells the sets, and I think individual pieces as well . Unless you're going to use everthing in the set, you might be better served choosing the pieces that you will actually use and simply purchasing those rather than the set. I think they're worth the investment.

Loblaw's = downhill

I don't know that I'd qualify the experience at Queen's Quay as "superb". For the last couple of years it seems that their shelves aren't properly stocked with basics, and it seems to have grown worse in the last couple of months. Added to which, they've also just hiked their prices..

Where to Get Decent Fruitcake?

Black Cake is wedding cake throughout the Caribbean...

Favorite cold weather cooking?

Chicken pot pies...

Delish Brand bajan Hot Sauce

Not terribly helpful at this time of year, but next summer try Barbados on the Water down at Harbourfront. There's usually a decent range of Bajan products available.

Chinese take-out boxes: any restos have them?

I've never eaten there, so I can't comment. Just answering the question of which restos serve in boxes...

Chinese take-out boxes: any restos have them?

Thai Express serves their food in those boxes. Not sure about any other places.

Where to find Sapodilla and Genip (Quenepas) in SW Ontario?

The fresh is delicious - I've never tried the canned - didn't even realize they sold it. Actually canned sapodilla sounds pretty un-appealing in general....

Where to find Sapodilla and Genip (Quenepas) in SW Ontario?

pistoladas -

Not a silly question at all! The sapodilla definitely went by another name, but I can't remember what it was. I was shopping with my mother, and she recognized it, so there was no need to pay attention to what it was called. I've never seen ginnips in chinatown. Your best bet downtown is as other posters suggested - the two west indian stores in Kensington. Those storeowners would also be able to tell you when they're (ginnips) in season.

Where to find Sapodilla and Genip (Quenepas) in SW Ontario?

I've seen and purchased sapodilla in chinatown (Spadina) - very expensive. I would guess that you'll only find ginnips in season at west indian stores that import them directly. Unfortunatley, I can't remember when the season is, although it's likely our spring/summer.
