Seeking hidden gem or little known food stores/specialty stores?
I know I'm a bit late to the table here, but let add Holyland Market to the list. This is an Israeli [Makolet] grocery that looks like a direct transplant from one in Tel-Aviv (sans smoking proprietor and local color) and dropped on the East Village. They have everything; from Bamba and Chickpeas to Hawaii brand soaps and shampoos. It's a pretty cool little spot.

Trader Joe's Brooklyn?
I went Sunday and found the place to be fairly empty (by union square TJ standards). There was no line snaking around the aisles, so i was actually able to reach the cheese section. Only problem was that the entire freezer section was empty because of some warehouse fire. Oh well, i'll have to wait til next time for Indian veggie burgers.
free-range meat restaurant recommendations
My girlfriend and i have recently been reading the bevy of horror stories on the production of meat. since we're such good ppl we've decided to try doing the free-range thing exclusively for a month as an experiment. So far it's proven harder than i thought. Does anyone have any great restaurant recommendations where one might find a steak or duck breast that hasn't been tortured to death? I'm starting to feel a bit anemic.

Sparks or Peter Luger?
I've never eaten there myself, but legend has it that some of NYC's finest cuts are dry aging in the vaults of Robert's Steakhouse, which happens to be located in the Penthouse club. I don't know if you or your man can dig it but the word on the street is that these steaks are the top. Here's a NY times article that compares Roberts to both Lugers and Sparks:

Best of Restaurant Week 2008 (any borough)
I was just wondering if anyone had a superb eating experience with any of the prefix menus that are being offered this year. I noticed that most of the top places are only offering for lunch only and I was hoping for dinner. Food is more important to me than ambiance but I'd also like to avoid the tourist hordes.
What's Your Favorite Domestic Beer and Why?
You guys need to try Geary's Hampshire Special Ale. This is a near perfect domestic that is full bodied with just the right balance of malt and hops. To be perfectly honest it's actually a little on the hoppy side but i prefer it that way.
This is the beer that once drunk becomes the standard to which all others are compared. If you like domestic pale ales and cascade hops this brew takes the cake.
Best Pasta-based Dish in NYC?
I'm partial to the Ravioli at Al Di La. It's got a creamy and decadent filling that includes beets.
Top Pizza in NYC
Brick oven 33 is incredibly bad pizza.
Of course I might just be tasting my own tears in the cheese as I cry and lament the fact that I'm constantly stuck eating 33's horrible junk.
