Saturday breakfast/brunch spots near 95, then lobster roll on Cape

Three good choices, Turtle Café or Christy's in downtown Westbrook or JAMMS on rt 1 in Old Saybrook. All three easy on and off 95, and about 35 minutes from New Haven.

outdoor waterfront/beachfront restaurants in Connecticut

Would highly recommend Fresh Salt Restaurant at the Saybrook Point Inn in Old Saybrook. Great food and views of the Connecticut river.

Koffee Works Old Lyme, CT Closed

For dynamite muffins try Ashland Farm at the train station shops in Old Saybrook.

Madison Beach Hotel (Madison, CT)? Or other brunch of note?

Have had brunch at Fresh Salt and Water's Edge. My vote would be Fresh Salt. Several different stations, i.e. craving, seafood, Asian, omelets, plus a great pastry selection. All nicely prepared and very flavorful with a great view of the river.

Good Elephant open in Chester

Don't know about Good Elephant, but if you like Italian would highly recommend Rustica in Chester. Their pasta is all made in-house and their food and service is great. I especially enjoy their various fish entrees and starters. Nino the host and co-owner is a real charmer who really enjoys banter with patrons.
Sure this would fit your search for a good dinner.

Mystic Market - Mystic CT Gourmet Foods

Their take out is disappointing, much prefer Pasta Vita or Bliss in Westbrook. IMHO can't beat Fromage or Cheese Shop in Centerbrook for cheese.

Old Saybrook - Favorite Pizza?

I heard the same rumor. Wonder if it is true, they seem to be opening in new locations. Also heard that Dagmar desserts and Starbucks are moving into the old North Cove. Will be interesting to see what develops.

Old Saybrook - Favorite Pizza?

Congrats.........You found the best in the area! No other restaurant locally has a real brick oven to cook the pies. You could not have done any better.

Copper Beech Inn

Had dinner here last night and was most impressed. We had not been there since Pip's closed. The new owners have done a great job in remodeling including a much needed face lift to the gardens. I started with an evening appetizer special, grilled octopus. The flesh had been marinated in red wine then grilled leaving a great char. The dish was accompanied by white beans and grilled citrus fruit. The fruit was a sublime counterpoint to the octopus. A great starter. My entrée was Branzino Provencal. Two filets were served with spinach, tomato almond chutney, and capers. The fish was perfectly cooked with a nice crunch to the skin side. My lady had the Boston Bibb Salad with anjou pear, pomegranate, goat cheese, and an orange vinaigrette. For the main course she had pan seared Diver Scallops with a lobster corn risotto. Both courses were perfectly prepared and delicious. The wine list is very impressive with not just French wines but wines from all over the world. We enjoyed a crisp Sancerre. We dined on the porch overlooking the garden. The general manager visited each table to chat and ensure all was well.(a nice touch rarely seen today) Sadly, they have changed their bread provider not as great as it once was. All in all a lovely evening with a beautiful venue. I would highly recommend a visit by any hounds who have not dined there since the new owners purchased the inn.

JAMMS

No pull, the lights were part of the Big Y development to allow a back way into the shopping center and Chalker Beach traffic onto Rt. 1.

JAMMS

Saw a sign yesterday that JAMMS(Old Saybrook) is moving to the old Mike's Deli location on Route 1. Also, that they will offer a deli area, along with their great breakfast items.

Old Saybrook lunch

Was there about a year ago for a new baby meet and greet brunch. Food was very good, many different stations: craving, seafood, Asian, egg omelets, pastries, breads etc. Overall great but pricey. I Agree CT mag worthless, they give great reviews to those that advertise with them. Second Old Saybrook soup and sandwich shout out.

Blue Oar

Was there on Thursday closed. But, they said opening today.

Costa del Sol (Hartford)

Prior to retiring I had an office down the road in Wethersfield, I enjoyed many a great lunch at this fine restaurant. The paella was always first rate as was their grilled octopus appy. Glad to hear they are still first rate.

Pepe's coming to Old Saybrook??

Yes, that is confirmed Mystic Market is taking over that spot. And yes have heard that the new owners of North Cove hope to rent to a restaurant. Second your choice of Al Forno, Linda and
Bob offer great Italian selections.

Pepe's coming to Old Saybrook??

Heard a rumor that Pepe's Pizza is coming to Old Saybrook in the old North Cove Outfitters building. Also Starbucks is moving over there. Any hounds hear the same, or is it just wishful thinking.

CT food finds 2014: our year in review

Second the shout out for Rustica. The Branzino is boned which is great, when I have had this before from Venice to New York it is served whole and a pain for me to filet. Their pasta dishes are all home made and terrific, try the cauliflower and sausage for a different sauce. Meatballs like my grandmother made! Host Nino is a charmer. All in all a great find.

Wedding restaurant + grounds for 25 people in Southern New England?

I second Don's recommendation of Water's Edge. Have been to several wedding receptions there and they do a great job. The venue overlooking Long Island Sound is gorgeous, and drinks and hors d'oeuvres are served outside. Dinners were also very good as was service for a large gathering.

Duck Fat

Tried a new dish over the holidays using duck breasts and have duck fat left over. Any hounds know if it's o.k. to freeze. I hate to waste this great flavor enhancer.

Saturday late lunch in Essex, Old Saybrook or Westbrook

I think Pennylane Pub on Main Street in Old Saybrook would fit your needs. Very good food and a large menu to pick from.

Looking for nice dinner in Lyme, Chester, Deep River, etc...

Second Don's recommendation of Cafe Routier and would add Bar Bouchee in Madison, Liv's Oyster Bar in Old Saybrook and Gabrielle's in Centerbrook. All have great food and pleasant but not fancy ambiance.

CT: clams casino or linguine with clam sauce, take me to the water!

Jay the chef at Gabrielle's in Centerbrook occasionally offers a dynamite clam sauce as a special. Best to call ahead to see what the evening specials are. Have also had a fine one at Liv's in Old Saybrook, think that was a special also.
