Excellent Frozen Pizza
They were passing out samples of it at the Cub in West St. Paul last week. I thought it was pretty tasty.....

Great Food Truck Race - 9/18/11 Spoilers
I have Comcast here in St. Paul, and my on demand has both Food Truck Race and Chopped Champions..... It under the Life and Home section of the menu, not with the other TV Networks.... It might vary with local areas.

NFNS Finale August 14 2011 (SPOILERS)
I haven't seen the promo for Jeff's show yet.... When is it going to start?
Top Chef Masters, Finale spoiler?
Anyone know when or if Top Chef Just Desserts is coming back? I liked that much more than I expected to last year...
Uncle Ira
Updating issue?.....
That was it.....!!!! I don't know how that setting got changed for me, I never even noticed those buttons before. But as soon as I changed it everything went back to normal.
Thank-you
Uncle Ira
Updating issue?.....
Is it just me, or are the boards not updating the way they should? I'm not sure I know the right term for it, but the threads aren't moving up to the top when there's a new post the way they usually do.....
MSP--- Big Daddy's this Weekend...?
Silly me... Never even thought to look for a phone number. Thanks, Anne.... I'll give them a call tomorrow. That turkey still tastes great, but I'm ready for something else...

MSP--- Big Daddy's this Weekend...?
Does anyone happen to know if Big Daddy's will be up and running this weekend or are they taking the holiday off? I have some family in from out of town and just thought some great BBQ would make for a nice break from leftovers..... As far as I know, they don't have a website I can check, but I may be out of the loop about that......
Thanks for any info, and I hope everyone here has a great Thanksgiving....

The Archer Farms Brand at Target
I love that Cajun mix... It's hard to keep myself from eating the whole bag in one sitting.
Heggie's Pizza (MSP)
They have a website at
http://www.heggiespizza.com/index.htm
It looks as if they sell only to restaurants, but it couldn't hurt to contact them to see what you can find out. Their phone number and e-mail address are on the page.
Let us know if you have any luck.

MSP: Kat Mandu on Grand
Oooooo---- Mustard green curry sounds like something I’d love. Can’t tell from the name if it’s curry made with mustard-greens, or a green curry with some mustard in the sauce. Either way I think I’ll have to try it when I get the chance...

Arthur Treatcher-style Fish? (MSP)
I have to say, I really miss having choices for fast food fish, like Arthur Treacher’s and H Salt. They used to be all over. For what it’s worth, there is an Arthur Treacher’s in one of the foodcourts at Mall Of America. I think it shares a space with Nathan’s Famous. But it’s been a while since I’ve been there.
As MSPD mentioned, there is Mac’s out on Larpenteur. And Chris & Rob’s down on West 7th has “Fish and Fries” on their menu, but I’ve never tried it. I doubt it’s anything special, but it might be worth a shot.

Saint Paul MN Coney Islands
They're opening up just this week for the RNC, but if it works out well for them I'm hoping that they might re-open for good. Here's another thread about this...

Could you tell from the sign you saw this morning if they were selling hot dogs?

MSP--- The Original Coney Island Re-Opening! ! !
It’s been at least 15 years, maybe 20. As I remember, the matriarch of the family, who more or less ran the place, had a stroke. It closed, but the family always insisted that it was only temporary, that they would re-open, “Just as soon as mom is better....” They’ve held off for years against a lot of pressure to sell the building for redevelopment.

MSP--- The Original Coney Island Re-Opening! ! !
I just saw on the MPR website that The Original Coney Island on St. Peter is going to re-open. It looks like it may just be during the convention, but here’s hoping that they make a go of it and stay open.
This is HUGE news for me and I imagine some others on the board who have been around St. Paul long enough. I have vivid memories of skipping school many times with a buddy, taking the bus downtown, and going into that dark and mysterious place for those great, great dogs....

MSP- Help my find my broccoli pizza please!
soupkitten-- So sorry to hear about that. The few times I’ve been there I’ve just had the “slice of the day” and been pretty happy with it, both thin crust and deep dish. But your broccoli experience sounds like a real let down. Sorry it happened to you, but thanks for warning the rest of us.
Uncle Ira
MSP- Help my find my broccoli pizza please!
You can get white pizza with broccoli at The Italian Pie Shoppe, although I don’t see any mention of ricotta on their menu. I’ve liked their pizza the few times I’ve had it, but I couldn’t really say if their thin crust qualifies as “New York” or not. Still, it might be worth your checking it out.....

Egg White Flatbreads @ D & D
Thanks for the info.... I’ll keep it in mind when they finally start opening stores here in Minneapolis / Saint Paul. Doesn’t sound like it’s going to be anytime too soon though.......
Uncle Ira
Egg White Flatbreads @ D & D
he-he-he.... Glad to know I wasn’t alone on this. I not only had the same question regarding the ampersand, but I also had the same first thought about Dean & Deluca.
Great minds, Arthur..... Great minds.

Egg White Flatbreads @ D & D
Ahhhh..... Of course. We don't have them here in the Twin Cities, but I hear they're coming soon. Thanks for the info....
Egg White Flatbreads @ D & D
I’m sorry... Is D & D the name of a chain that I don’t know, or is it short for something that’s going to be painfully obvious to me once it’s pointed out??
Grand between Fairview and Snelling (MSP)
One other place to keep in mind is the salad bar - deli case - steam table at Whole Foods. Not an actual restaurant, but you can often find some good choices for a quick lunch or dinner.

Thick Hot Chocolate and Yogurt in Madrid and Paris
I don’t have an answer for you, but I’m very intrigued by your post. Is this a hot chocolate mixed with yogurt, or are these two separate items that you’re looking for? Some kind of hot-chocolate-yogurt-thingie is suddenly sounding VERY tasty to me.....

MSP: The Fall of Saigon
The police station has already been torn down..... I just noticed the other day. I hadn’t heard about the plans for that corner. I was wondering what had happened......

Pizza Burgers (MSP, but elsewhere in Midwest okay, too)
DQ---
---Funny this should come up again just now. I was shopping at Rainbow the other day and saw some Pizza Burgers in the freezer. Looked like it might have been a small local brand. Just a generic looking white cardboard box labeled Pizza Burgers. Don’t know if you’re interested in ones to make at home, but as soon as I saw it I remembered this thread from last year and thought, “I have to let DQ know about this....”
I’ve also noticed that they have them on the menu at The Coop in South St. Paul. I’ve never eaten anything there other then the fried chicken, (which I think is pretty good....), but you might want to add it to the list for your Pizza Burger Quest if you find yourself in that neighborhood.

May the Chow be with you.

What is minneapolis's signature dish?
You’re absolutely right. Now that I look, it does seem as if the poster may not be from Minnesota. My bad....
That’s what I get for trying to be the smartest kid in class. I couldn’t pull it off 40 years ago, and I can’t get away with it now....he-he-he
Uncle Ira
What is minneapolis's signature dish?
I agree... The Salted Nut Poll is one of out greatest gifts to the world.
Nut to be too picky, but isn’t our junior senator a “she”?
Uncle Ira
What is minneapolis's signature dish?
The Nut Goodie and The Salted Nut Roll.... Two pillars of Saint Paul greatness. From what I understand the Goodie is much harder to find in other parts of the country--- Something about them being harder to ship because of melting. I have friends in other states who can find Nut Rolls in their area, but have never seen or heard of the Nut Goodie. So of the two, I think we might have to give that one the nod as a local “signature” item.

Jazzing up Peanut butter cookies???
Never tried this, but how about some chopped candied ginger and/or a pinch of cayenne? Sounds good to me, but then I’ve never met a peanut butter cookie I didn’t like....
Uncle Ira
MSP- Fish and Chips
MSPD--- Thanks for mentioning Lee’s and Dee’s. It’s one of the real gems that I keep forgetting about. Never had their catfish. I’m going to have to give it a try soon....
