Fresh Fine Dining

I haven't been to Fresh in Bristol, but would enjoy learning more. Could you post a link to your article when it is completed?

Pink Sushi-Moncton

We visited Pink Sushi a couple of months ago for lunch and really enjoyed it. Service was earnest and pleasant, as you remark. The restaurant is sparkling and the food is very good. One of us had a bento box and the other went for sushi. Everything was freshly prepared and delicious. I recommend it for lunch or dinner.
As you pointed out, it can be empty at times. I hope that they persevere and find their niche market!

Gourmet take out or catering

Thanks, Julies1949. I truly appreciate it!

Gourmet take out or catering

Can anyone recommend a place in Vancouver that sells or delivers gourmet take away meals? A friend is seriously ill and I was thinking about ordering some meals for her family, but I'm on the other side of the country. Any recommendations welcome. Thanks.

Gourmet Cookies- Delivered?

Gourmet Cookies- Delivered?

Does anyone have a suggestion for a Canadian company that makes and ships gourmet cookies across Canada? I'm sending a care package to a couple of university students and would be grateful for a recommendation.

Blue Olive - Dieppe/Moncton

I was there on Sunday, too. We bought homemade baklawa, which was excellent, and also homemade harissa, which was delicious, too.
Thanks for the tip. I hope they are successful, too.

Trinitea's serves more than just tea

Recently, I visited Trinitea's tearoom on Regent Street in Fredericton for lunch and I was really impressed with their soups. They usually have 3 or 4 soups on offer, all of which are homemade. In the past I have tried their clam chowder, their cream of tomato and basil, and their acadian chicken stew. I have really enjoyed all of them. The soups are thick, chunky and flavourful with aromas and tastes that remind me home. In addition to their lovely soups, they have homemade sandwiches, and a very large selection of loose teas, including green, black, white, and also herbal infusions. I recommend Trinitea's highly as a place to have tea with something homemade and sweet or for their lunch offerings. Try the soup, you won't be disappointed!

Hi Everyone,
My family and I are planning a trip to Shediac. Any recommendations for food there?

La Taquiza: Mexican food in the GTA -- no, really!

It's worth mentioning that La Taquizza is not open on Mondays. (We found out the hard way) Also, it looks as if they only take Mastercard and Cash? (No other signs in the window indicating alternative payments accepted)

Flaky Tart - new on Mt Pleasant

Cupcakes from the flaky tart, SSainani? Could you let us know how they are?

Goan Food and Shrimp Curry! -- Where in GTA??

When we were at Chakra the other night, I noticed they had at least two different shrimp curry dishes. We were sticking with the basics that evening and so didn't try them although the descriptions sounded wonderful. The server recommended them for our next visit. NB: they have take away and so you could order one of the dishes to try at home. It looks as if the take away menu is cheaper than the dining room menu.

Chakra - Short Review

On the strength of these two postings, we went to dinner at Chakra last night and were not disappointed. Suresh is correct about the space; we found it attractive and sexy. The paintings are beautiful. Service was attentive and cheerful. We ate a simple dinner just for the purpose of highlighting two of our favourite dishes, chicken tikka masala and butter chicken. We frequent Tabla and Kama Sutra and so we wanted to compare their staples with that of Chakra. We prefer the tikka masala at Chakra hands down. Fragrant, fresh sauce, flavourful, tender chicken. We loved it. In fact, it reminded us of some very nice tikka masala we had in England last summer. The butter chicken was delicious as well. A very fine dish, but the tikka masala won the day. Also, the garlic naan was much better than at either Tabla or KS. Chakra's garlic naan was fragrant, fresh and perfectly flavoured. No acrid over-garlicking here. The remarks about price are correct, but since the tasting notes, service and ambience were pitch perfect, Chakra is my new favourite in the northern corridor. We were advised to try the prawn dishes next time, and that's what I'll be doing.NB: they do take away and catering, and the owner's daughter (?) invited us downstairs to see their private dining room that can be used for parties, events, etc.

Where to find the best baguette in Toronto?

I favour Patisserie Le Cigogne on Bayview south of Eglinton, north of Millwood. I prefer their baguettes and croissants.

brunch at Olivia's At Fifty Three

Can you tell us the location? cross streets?

Inexpensive, yet impressive eating spot at Spadina & Bloor

Bump to the top, just to assure Fruglescot that many of us are interested in "the rest of the story." (and we hope dinner was nice)

Saturday lunch in Hamilton with kids?

How about Locke Street Bagels?
It's family friendly and on Saturdays there are lots of young families going in and out.
Bagels and sandwiches are excellent as is the coffee.

Thai in Richmond Hill (Yonge/Major Mac)

I've heard good things about this place. Any specific dishes stand out??

Your inexpensive, Unusual locations to "Grab A Bite"?

Bagel Nash or Le Delice at the Longo's plaza at Bayview and Laurelleaf. (Same plaza as Ferrovia) Inside the mini mall is Bagel nash, which serves respectable bagels and sandwiches. At Le Delice, they sell falafels and shawarmas. Both cheap and both delicious.

Good grub Persian Yonge-Steeles Recomend?

These are all great suggestions.
Can anyone comment on the quality/price points of Zaffron's menu?

Good grub Persian Yonge-Steeles Recomend?

I'm just bumping this back to the top so it doesn't get lost. I'm interested in the answer.
I have heard about Zaffron, for example, but haven't been and so can't recommend it...

Nacho Cheese

If you don't have luck finding it in a can, you could try Velveeta.
My relatives in Texas make their own using Velveeta, a little milk to get the right consistency, and a tin of Rotel peppers. Rotel might be difficult to find in TO. But the mixture comes out smooth and yummy, and probably approximates what you're looking for.

Stovetop Macaroni and Cheese

Made this last night. We were very impressed with the result. But next time, I will add slightly less 1/2 and 1/2 as I would like the sauce to be a little thicker. We left out the hot sauce, but enjoyed the mustard. Next time, I'll add a few gratings of fresh nutmeg.

Globe Bistro - review Feb/08

Thanks for this review. I am always appreciative of those who take the time to spell it all out. I was invited recently to a UWO Alumni event at Globe Bistro. I guess Ed the owner is a Western Alum.... We'll see what the Westerners have to say about all this.

Oliver Bonacini - recipie for Mac&Cheese [Moved from Ontario board]

I wasn't sure I could find it, but here is the link on MS's website; the recipe is taken from her magazine in 2001:

Oliver Bonacini - recipie for Mac&Cheese [Moved from Ontario board]

I agree that it is wonderful; it's especially delicious in the winter weather we've been having.
Just in case the recipe doesn't materialize, Martha Stewart has an excellent recipe for homemade mac and cheese that relies on a basic white sauce, mixed white cheeses, and a little grated nutmeg for zest and complexity. If you like O&B, you'll like this dish, as well.

Best hot chocolate in Toronto?

Breakfast Television had Jennifer with her Live Eye report there this morning. We watched them make their famous hot chocolate. It looked great.

Kleinburg-Lunch or Dinner

This is very helpful; Thank you!

Kleinburg-Lunch or Dinner

We're heading to the McMichael art gallery for a day trip in the next month or so. We're interested in lunch or dinner recommendations for Kleinburg or the surrounding area. Apart from the McMichael, I don't know the area very well at all but have heard rumours of good eating. No constraints, just good food for the two of us; either lunch or dinner.
