Veggie Thanksgiving
I am bringing a dish for an office veggie Thanksgiving, as well as one for a Thanksgiving day dinner at a friend's. Side dishes are easy but -- any suggestions for something more substantial? (Mainly so I don't have to make a meal of brussels sprouts, cranberry sauce and pie.) Not that awful tofu substitute stuff -- Tofurky is truly vile and I want something savory and inherently good, not any fake turkey item.
Lasagna comes to mind, and would be fine if I could find a superior recipe. Any ideas for that or other dishes?

Delivery man yelled at us for not tipping 20%
The tip was too low. I think you owe 15% on the food. It's true that hardy any more work carrying $65 of food than $10. But even in restaurants, the fussy single dinner may be more work than a pleasant four-top. Neverthess, in restaurants you tip 15% to 20% on the final total and that is true for deliveries, too.
That said, the delivery guy was way way out of line His behavior was much worse than your undertipping. I would have stiffed him and complained to the management.
Walnuts and pecans
I want to make spiced walnuts and pecans for the holidays. Does anybody know of a place to buy fresh nuts? Freshly roasted pecans would be fine. I guess walnuts don't come roasted.
What I want to avoid are those overly greasy, old-smelling nuts I see at some candy stores. I could probably get these at Whole Foods or Health Nuts, but I'm not worried about organic and I'd like to keep the price down, if possible. Quality is more important, though.
Thanks.

UWS advice...
Nobody's mentioned Picnic on Broadway between 101st and 102nd. It's a very nice place for a good, sort-of-expensive dinner. In other words, not cheap-good, like Krik Krak. The owners of the terrific bakery, Silver Moon, opened it not long ago.
I second the suggestion of Sal & Carmine's for pizza, which is right next door.
