RETIREMENT PARTY-PASADENA OR NEAR

I am looking for a place to hold a retirement party someplace close to Pasadena. We expect about 100-200 people, alcohol allowed or if permissible, we would like a place we can bring in our own. Good food, something nice but not over priced. Ample parking or at least enough so we don’t have to fight for a spot. Any recommendations?

Paul's Kitchen.....Anyone???

Pauls is great. In an area that really offers nothing else they deliver with a toch of class. So what if the menu is misspelled and the floor is pealing off. Good food is good food. I go 2-3 times a week and have the belly to prove it.

Taste Chicago in Burbank?

I totally agree TC is not worth the drive or walk. I lived within walking distance for 3 years and only went once becuase it was so bad.

Pageant of the Masters.. dinner before?

Eat something heavy so you can sleep through the Pageant of the Masters. I felt like I was in purgatory watching it.

Great Eats-San Fernando Valley

Checkout Hearts for breakfast. On the corner of Saticoy and Balboa behind the Del Taco. Great breakfast and the bacon is very crisp...nothing like I have ever had before...get the 2x2x2x2 for 3.89 or something like that, cheap eats.

Burrito SFV?

Also...El Tepeyac was one of the places listed as getting Beef from Halmark (I think that's the name?) processing plant. I'm not going back...

Burrito SFV?

Las Fuentes is the one to go with...Sol Y Luna and Las Fuentes are owned by the same family exect at Luna you pay the Ventura Blvd price. Sol is more of the sit down Guac at the side of the table kinda place and Las Fuentes is more casual order at the counter then sit. To that extend you cound goto Melodys, also owned by Las Fuentes Family, and get drive thru.

Food/beverages invented in Los Angeles

I think Cole's (Downtown) claims to have invented to french dip but it may be under construction? Remodel I think?

Mexican Food/Margaritas in the Valley?

Sol Y Luna and Las Fuentes are owned by the same family. For that matter so is Melodys. Any of these options are great for Mex food/food and they provide a 3 tiered scale for your mood, Melodys for dirve thru, Las Fuentes for walk up ordering but with a place to sit down and get a beer or SolY Luna for a sit down guacamole made at the side of the table kinda dinner.

Life Day in ecstasy at Providence-Report (LONG!)

Diana,

Great review.

Best Filet Mignon under 30 bucks?

I just goto Costco and buy the whole filet. You can get it for around $60-70 buck and trim it for about 7-10 steaks.

Best breakfast in L.A.

yup, they are still around. The same family owns it and the food hasn't changed.

BBQ CATERER FOR OFFICE?

Checkout the California BBQ Association Website. They have caterers that will do a great job and have credentials to back it up. Many of them get booked way in advance because of the demand for good Q.

New to the SF. Valley. Where are the best places to eat??

Kabuki, I don't think is at Devonshire and Reseda. I think your refering to Shogun Sushi near Goodwill. Kabuki is a little farther south down Reseda, I think?

Sawtelle dining

I second 2117, it a great little place for good upscale food.

Breakfast in the Valley

Hearts Coffee Shop on Saticoy and Balboa is another great breakfast place. Cheep eats and great food. Excellent Bacon.

CAMPANILE- REVIEW

Craft is on my short list. Thanks for the rec.

CAMPANILE- REVIEW

I don't think I'll be giving them another chance to take my cash even if the brunch was free.

CAMPANILE- REVIEW

Well this was our first time at Campanile as we don't get to go out much with 2 young one at home. None the less we ventured out on Saturday night for a post Valentines Day dinner.

We arrived at our reserved time and were seated in the front near the fountain. As we get settled in we see Mark Peel leave the resturaunt. 7:45 on a Saturday night I want the chef in kitchen making the food, no leaving out the front door?. To be fair the food was just OK, it's the service that left something to be desired.

We started out by ordering some apps: Me- Shrimp wrapped in Prosciutto. Da wife- the Oysters.

The shrimp were great with a slightly salty flavor imparted by the prosciutto and sweetness of the shrimp. The oysters were fresh with that fresh ocean flavor.

Main: Me- Big Eye Tuna-Rare. I was very underwhelmed by this dish. Tuna was cooked rare but the flavors were off. Not my fav. The smoke falvor from the grilling left an unpleasent after-taste that I did not like.

The Wife- Wild King Salmon. Not spectacular but OK. The fish was served with some nicely cooked greens.

The service was terrible. We had to ask for things over and over, some things we are still waiting for....butter for the bread anyone? I really like to got out and have a nice meal and it's sad when it's the service that falls short. The server was not attentive to our needs and rarly coam by to check on us. We received better service from the bus boys who were the ones doing all the work. We learned to just flag one of them down if we needed anything. Unfortunatly this was late into the meal. Also, I ordered a jack and coke. I have never in my life had a more watered down drink, ever. I thought they forgot to put the jack in it? In anycase we will not be back anytime soon. Osteria Mozza here we come.

joe's NY pizza in santa monica = hyped & awful

I found Joe's to be a perfectly passable Slice for the area. Vito's is still numero uno in my book.

What is the Best Steakhouse in LA???

Porterhouse Bistro has a great steak and the special they have for 2 is a great value.

What is the Best Steakhouse in LA???

Mortons does a great Prime Rib on Fri and Sat nights for $39 and it's enough for 2 easy.

Galco's Soda Pop Stop?

It's not a great day trip destination unless you plan to visit other sites in the area. I was not impressed when I went and yes they have a good selection but I was expecting more...

Best breakfast in L.A.

I would recommend HEARTS on Saticoy and Balboa in the Valley. They have a great breakfast and have been around for 20+ years. A bargin for the price...Also a great Wine place next door, Wine Depot or something like that...200+bottles of Tequilla.

Pickles

I second A-1. They make a great Dill like I remember from back east.

Help - BBQ Catering?

I would look at the California Barbeque Association Website for a good Catering Co. They have some top notch Teams that do catering. You can't go wrong with someone who has won national awards as many of the teams have...www.cbbqa.com

Mulberry St. report

I have tried Vito's, Mulberry, and Joe's IMHO I think you can't beat Vito's. It's the best pie I've had in 20 years.

ISO of good butcher on a budget

I find the best thing to do is follow the adds you get in the Tuesday paper. They have most of the major markets and a few lesser known chains. They meat is all usually select grade but when you on a budget and need to feed a family it's the best value for the $. They flier usually include stores like Jons, Tres Sieres (sp?), Vallerta, cubano, etc...go for the special becasue the astores almost always sell the add meat at a loss or at cost just to get you in the door.

Vito's -- it's perfect!

Vito's is great Pizza hands down. I went to Joe's over the weekend and had a great slice also but for my money I'm sticking with Vito's. I used to be a follower of Casa De Pizza in Granada Hills but one bite of Vito's and I converted.
