Sunday lunch in SFV along I-405
None taken, Emme! We'll check out the Jazz Brunch at Spazio, too. Let me know if you ever need tips for South OC
Medusa Lounge--Tears and Beers
Great review - I haven't been there for 20 years but can't wait to go back. Regarding the lack of coffee/tea - it may be a lease restriction. Horrible, but it happens. WineWorks is a delightful wine bar with full dinner menu including dessert in O.C. (I-5 at Oso Parkway east.) The Owner is an Irishman named Darren. He told me his lease restricts him from serving coffee/tea because Starbucks is next door and they demanded it from the landlord. So he or is staff will go to Starbuck's and purchase whatever the diner desires, bring it back and serve it, until he renegotiates this insane term of his lease

Diana - took your advice and booked an 11:45am reservation - it was great; we'll go back again! Good service and the food was way above average - although not legendary, it was a great value. My wife had salmon and I had whitefish. Didn't do cocktails but heard lots of martini shakers going in the background. The passion fruit ice tea is the best - especially when it is 100 degrees outside - which it was!
Hey Emme - I AM the older crowd (at 55 y.o.) - but NOT docile. There were others there like me. Also a lively USC graduation party. We passed Simon's and Cucina Bene - both are on our list for future stops in the Valley. Thanks for the recommendation!
Cafe Cordiale was perfect! Just what we were looking for. Thanks Diana.
Dim Sum in OC
Know of a good Chinese restaurant with Dim Sum from carts in OC? Prefer near I-5/Euclid in Anaheim. I think I went to place once on Euclid just north of I-5 (near Anaheim Plaza shopping center) but I can't remember the name. The food was good.
where can i get abita purple haze?
Try High Times in Costa Mesa - call first; they are very helpful. The have a huge selection of everything.
Lowenbrou Keller on Beverly Blvd
Does anyone know the (roughly) current status? I heard it was closing about a year ago. I heard it is now called Medusa Restaurant, serves Korean food and most of the original interior is intact. Any information will be appreciated - especially new phone number. I have 213 382 5723 and address is 3211 Beverly Blvd.

Thanks! I like the looks of Cafe Cordiale from their website - I think I've been by it. We'll probably try it on Sunday.
Gina Lee's Redondo Beach
We've been going for years and always enjoy it - and we go there from Orange County. It is very unique - we haven't found a restaurant either in LA or NY where we can say "It's like Gina Lee's" Hope you try it.
Brent's Deli/Northridge on Sundays
How crowded is Brent's Deli in Northridge on Sundays around 12noon??
Hunting down that outrageous carrot cake!
Carrot cake is my favorite dessert and I am 55 y.o. so I have had lots. I haven't found anything good amongst the coffee places (starbucks/its a grind/peets/coffee bean.) I vote for Costco. It always satisfies - and the best thing about it is - after the first piece, there is plenty left!!!

We are driving from OC to Simi Valley tomorrow (Sunday) and need to be in Simi by 1:15pm - we would like to stop at 11:30am or so for a non-fast food but not necessarily leisurely lunch at a not-too crowded place, and not a brunch. It should be within 5 minutes of the I-405 freeway. Sherman Oaks or Encino would be good but anywhere south of the Simi Valley Freeway/Devonshire off-ramp. Something like the Daily Grill in Encino (if it is still there). Any ideas will be appreciated.
Gina Lee's Redondo Beach
Thank you so much! We have been to this great restaurant before, but it has been awhile. We are planning to go next Saturday for my birthday and meet friends. The blog is very helpful.
Gina Lee's Redondo Beach
Does anyone know the URL for Gina Lee's website (if there is one?)
Lobster Rolls in LA/OC?
Thanks for the tips so far - yes I am looking for the traditional New England sandwich, not sushi.
Lobster Rolls in LA/OC?
Does anyone know if there is a place offering "genuine" Maine Lobster Rolls in the LA/OC area? They are popular in New York City, but I can't find them in LA.
