Ideas for puff pastry appetizers?

I was thinking about doing something similar with puff pastry too for this yr's bbq but i decided to do fresh ricotta(or goat cheese), fig, honey, arugula on toasted country bread. lot easier and just as elegant and tasty.

Celebration for 10-12 out of towners, Lexington/East 47th

If you don't mind Japanese style table bbq, this might be a fun place. I believe they have a private room. Their meat quality is pretty decent and should have no problem with your budget.
it's at 3rd and 49th street.

People are allow to give him advices and it's up to Pan to decide at the end.

Advice - Mains under $30

For Italian, Mailiano or Locanda Verde..most of their entrees are in 20s.

For French, I like Millsime. Their entrees are in 20s.

Who makes the best bone marrow ?

i had bone marrow dish at Prune not too long ago and it simply wasn't that good plus it didn't have enough marrow in it. my home made version was a lot better which by the way is very simply to make and super affordable.

Prune or Marc Forgione?

I went to Prune about a month ago. Didn't think anything they served was special plus I really really hated their tight seating...and I didn't care for their services either. It was in fact one of the worst dining experience this yr.
Between my husband and I, we had roasted bone marrow, sweetbread, lamb chop and another main dish I forgot. We both didn't even like the red wine we ordered. i really wanted to like this place but the whole dining experience was really disappointing. It was a big waste of $200.

Pesto Sauce from Costco

I always make this with the pesto sauce. I think Costco's pesto sauce quality is excellent. I also love to mix it with some nice quality spaghetti and eat it just like that. so good.
it's also good with tomato(kumato is my tomato of choice these days) and fresh mozzarella cheese.

Inexpensive lunch near 55th & Lex -- including food trucks

I work at 54 and Lex and this is my rotation.
Obao, Thai 51, Aburiya kinosuke (45th), Radicchio for pasta and risotto lunch specials, for Chinese, I only go to Land of Plenty. Seoul food truck for their baguette pork sandwich(i like their pork and the baguette they use), Ise. I also go to glaze teriyaki if i need a quick lunch.
I also liked Social eatz but i find it too loud.

Restaurants in Isla Verde in Puerto Rico

A family of 3(including 4 yr old) is staying at Marriot Isla Verde and looking for some restaurant recommendations around the area. We like everything and budget is pretty open as long as food is good.

aquagrill

Their dishes are decent but I once had their creme fraiche ice cream and I thought i died and went to heaven.

Bali Nusa Indah: New Chef

I can't wait until I hear some good stuff about this new chef. Indonesian food is so under rated.

Deep fryer

Wow, thanks for the thorough explanation. Is this the machine you have? There were several machines made by T Fal.

Deep fryer

What are some advantages of buying an electric deep fryer machine?
I've been using a deep dutch oven with a thermometer, but I wonder if it is worth getting a machine that's dedicated to frying my favorite food like fried chicken and sweet potato fries. It looks like you can get a decent machine for about $50 plus.

What are you favour 3 cuisines?

Thai(every bite has so much characters and flavors..can never get sick of it)
Korean(because i am korean and I grew up eating it)
French(the technique, sophistication, complexity)

name 5 overrated, or over hyped or famous restaurants whose food doesn't live up to reputation

My husband and I went to babbo a few years ago. After a few bites, we looked at each others and said, all that positive reviews over this?

Passover desserts question

can French macarons be eaten after a passover meal? They use almond flour, right?

name 5 overrated, or over hyped or famous restaurants whose food doesn't live up to reputation

Yes, I find this is true...especially if you have eaten at other parts of the World...especially countries like France. There is just no comparison.

To me,
Oceana- was beyond disappointed with their food.
Lupa- used to be my favorite. My last 2 trips were total disappointments.
Prune- went last week. wow, I felt like total waste of money and time. Almost reminded me of diner food. And their cramp space..gosh, i will never go back.
Chikalicious- nahhh...nothing impressive.
Billy's carrot cakes- seriously? I make better carrot cake than them.

Everything is relative. Olive Garden can be the best you've got. Does it matter?

This exactly reason why I can never leave NYC and stop traveling to other parts of the world.
I once walked into a random restaurant in middle of nowhere in Pennylvania..all the tables were full so I felt like i was in the right place until i ordered something called lemon chicken. It was basically boiled chicken breast with lemon flavored powder sprinkled on it...i could see the grain of that fake lemon powder right in the middle of chicken breast. I was really hungry but couldn't eat more than a few bites.

What are the Chances in NYC that Ostrich Meat is substituted for Goat (lamb) and Beef? 把鸵鸟肉替羊肉或牛肉 / Land Of Plenty: best goat in town

Thanks for the recommendation. My coworkers and I frequent this restaurant for lunch. It really is a great Chinese restaurant and I feel very lucky to have this around my office. Their waiters are kind and honest which is not so common at most Chinese restaurants. I once ordered something off their appetizer menu and the waiter told me not to order that particular dish.
I usually order their lunch but I will definitely try their goat dishes later.
THe only complaint is that they no longer make everything as spicy as they used to when they just opened. Must try is their sichuan dumplings on their appetizer menu. SO so good.

Eleven Madison Park & Picky Eater

You can take me instead, I have no dislikes what so ever.

Work Lunch in the East 50s

Social Eatz has salad, sandwiches and burgers..though it is asian inspired.
you can also try BXL cafe(belgian) and Cafe Linda(italian) and there are a lot of Irish bar restaurants along 2nd ave.

Imperial Palace / East Lake Seafood Restaurant – My Favorite Chinese Restaurant in New York

I believe it was somewhere betwen $250 and $300.
I can ask my friend and get back to you.

Tips on tipping - pleeease [moved from Manhattan board}

Nope, they don't. Both my sis and her husband work as chefs in NYC(both CIA graduated) and they've never received anything extra other than their wage which is very very small for what they do.

Portion control at a dinner party

haha..don't eat the shrimp because they are expensive...puhahaha...i can't stop laughing.

Portion control at a dinner party

That's funny because my grandparents who survived harsh time during the Korean war do the complete opposite. because they were so deprived of food when they were growing up, the first thing my grandma says when i walk in is, did you eat? want to eat something and she would serve mountain and mountains of food even though i keep telling her I am not hungry.

Work Lunch in the East 50s

There are so many options around there. My favorite is Obao which is a Vietnamese restaurant. It's on 53rd street between 2nd and 3rd. Then there is Radicchio also on the same block that has really good pasta and risotto lunch special...this place is a steal.

Then there is Social Eatz also on the same block. It's a bit more hip and trendy. Great food too.

Then there is Ise on 49th street between 2nd and 3rd. You can get cheap and tasty Japanese home food. You must get there early before or at around 12 to get the set you want.

There is also Sakagura which is one of Chowhound's favorite. Might be slightly more than $20 but worth every penny. Then there is Hide Chan which specialize in hearty Japanese ramen.

I am just naming a few but there are tons and tons of good places to eat around there.
Thai 51 is another great cheap and tasty option.

Tips on tipping - pleeease [moved from Manhattan board}

I always find it ironic that a lot of waiters at upscale restaurants make more than a fix figure while the actual chefs and cooks who prepare your wonderful food barely make half of what the waiters make.

Tips on tipping - pleeease [moved from Manhattan board}

I always tip on the final amount which includes tax then I round up the amount so I think I am good.

btw, most guideline suggests 15% to 20% so I don't think 18% even on pre tax amount is too low.

Tips on tipping - pleeease [moved from Manhattan board}

One of the easiest ways to calculate tip is by simply doubling the tax amount. Tax in NYC is 8.875% so if you double the amount, you are tipping close to 18%.
