Kennebunkport/Portland/Bar Harbor Suggestions - May 27-June1

In Kennebunkport, skip On The Marsh and Cape Pier Chowder. Two dinners should definitely include Ocean and Earth; two lunches should take place at The Ramp and The Tides. The lobster roll at the Clam Shack is the best in own, but as it's a stand, use it for an afternoon snack. Do not go near All Day Breakfast - try the new Edgewater Inn instead. Have an ice cream at Goose Rocks Dairy. Enjoy!

Nantucket Expertise Needed!

I highly recommend Straight Wharf for dinner. (The boisterous bar is completely separate from the restaurant, so don't worry about noise.) The menu is fabulous and the food does not disappoint. It is one of our favorites, and we go back year after year...and it gets better. Another favorite is LoLa 41 - call at 4:00 pm for a reservation the day you want to dine. The menu is so varied ghat we usually eat here at least twice in a weekend - don't miss the burger, Mac & cheese, truffles fries and fish. The tables are spread around the bar so it can be a bit noisy; I just like the upbeat vibe. Galley Beach and The Bistro at the Summerhouse for lunch are the best on the island for food and atmosphere.

lunch in Kennebunkport

Please don't go to any of the places IWantFood suggested - they are pedestrian and touristy. For the best lunch in town, go to the Ramp. Best burger, fried clams, lobster roll and mussels with a million dollar view!

Getting Married In Portland, Looking For Caterers

I used Black Tie Catering for a summer cocktail party and I was really pleased. They listened to my ideas, took them and ran with them. They were really easy to work with, set up a wonderful bar, and people are still raving about the food.

Is there anything decent in Amelia Island??

We dined at 29 South, which was phenomenal! All nine of us ate our way through the menu and enjoyed each and every dish. Highlights were the crab cakes, grass-fed Filet of beef special and short ribs. Espana was fun, but the paella was underwhelming.

Is there anything decent in Amelia Island??

I will be traveling to Amelia Island for a girls' weekend in November. It really looks like there are not any foodie-approved places to eat! I have two simple requirements: good food and good atmoshere. Can anyone help me out??

When Pigs Fly

So funny reading all of these posts, because I think that the WPF bread purchased at the stores is totally fresh and moist. I love the apple/cinnamon and the pumpkin/date breads. The sourdough is a staple in our kitchen! I like shopping at the Kittery store because they give samples of everything including the amazing chocolate chip cookies and tea cakes. My kids love the chocolate bread, which they toast and top with ice cream and chocolate sauce. But the bottom line is that I enjoy supporting a local business!

black tie catering company

I used Black Tie Catering about 2 years ago for a cocktail party and they rocked! I was looking for some different cocktail food with a comtemporary flair and a unique presentation. They were very easy and pleasant to work with, listening to my ideas. The servers they sent were really personable also. I give them an excellent recommendation and would not to hesitate to use them again!!

NYC Foodie in Portsmouth, NH for One Night...

Anneke Jans is the best on the list. Great vibe, great service, great food. Don't miss the fried olives and the mussels!

Lobster Mac and Cheese on NH seacoast??

I love the lobster mac & cheese at MC Perkins Cove in Ogunquit. They actually give you a half of a tail and a whole claw! It is so rich (and big) that we have shared it with four as an appetizer, or it makes a huge entree for one.

5 weekends on the Vineyard: some thoughts

Went to State Road in July and it was by far, the best meal I have ever had on MV! The restaurant have been beautifully renovated, and the gardens are sumptuous. Ate there with five people and we all loved our meals. (I can't remember what everyone ate like most of you foodies...) I just can't stop thinking about the pea soup that was so impossibly wonderful, I could have stpped right there. They bring tiny, hot brioche to the table. They sell homemade chocolate bars. What more could you want?!? Go, go, go!

Lobster Roll Recommendations

Linda Bean's Famous Lobster roll in Camden (there is also one across from LL Bean in Freeport) and the Clam Shack in Kennebunkport. Linda's uses some amazing kind of mayo and a unique hot dog bun -- so delicious! The Clam Shack uses a whole tail on a toasted and buttered hamburger bun. And of course, Red's in Wiscassett!

No, they eat lunch there all the time -- way too pedestrian! They want to dress up and be cool for the night....

Thanks for trying, though!

wentworth by the sea brunch

We love the jazz brunch at the Wentworth! We often take our 12 and 15 year old kids and they love it too. The staff is very personable and the food is delicious. I am still thinking about the desserts -- excellent, despite the fact that they come from a hotel. It is so worth $45!

New restaurants, Portsmouth, NH

I actually like the Agave in Portsmouth better than N'port. I like how the restaurant has lots of different nooks and crannies to sit in. The guacamole is made at your table which I thought, at first, was a bit gimmicky until I tried it -- great! Their take on Mexican food is just a bit more healthy (if you can call Mexican food healthy) than any other place around. They have a very lovely salad with shrimp and avocado and I love their soups too.

Also, had a nice dinner at the bar at Four. I think we tried every side dish! Loved the onion soup and the steak was very good, not amazing. We definitely do need a steak place around Portsmouth, so this is probably the best you can find. I had a hard time with the wine list, though.

My 16 year-old daughter wants to take ten of her nearest and dearest to Boston for dinner. (Aren't I the Mother-of-the-Year?!) They are pretty sophisticated eaters. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Bobs in Kittery - Sadly Can't Recommend Anymore

Bob's is open year-round and I agree that it has been going down-hill for some time now. The fried food, which used to be be crunchy and dry, is now soggy and greasy. It all tastes the same to me, be it chicken, clams or shrimp! The lobster rolls taste rather fishy, which means that the lobster must be frozen or old. And they got rid of the Ben and Jerry's ice cream!

Where do the Locals eat in Oak Bluffs, MV?

We love Balance in OB -- go on the later side. The menu changes often, but when we were there last, we enjoyed the small plates as well as the entrees. Lots of "local" summer people! Love Sweet Life. Linda Jean's for breakfast only. Don't forget about buying your apple fritter at Back Door Donuts behind the bakery after 10 pm!

Looking for something new... Tired of Portsmouth, NH

Hey -- please don't tell any more people about the Ramp -- it is our favorite place and it's hard enough to get a seat! Had dinner there again last night and it never disappoints -- the best burgers around! Gotta love the blueberry cumble, too!

4 days in Seville

We are spending 4 days in Seville in June. Let me know some of your favorite places for lunch and dinner. Since we probably won't be returning to this part of Spain for a while, I'd like to have some fun, memorable meals.

Restaurants in Kennebunk or Biddeford?

I don't even know where to begin -- get out of Braintree! Try some hotels in Cambridge, Brookline or even Newton...

On your way up to Kennebunkport, stop off in Newburyport and have lunch at the Black Cow, which is right on the water. Walk around town for a bit. You can also stop in Portsmouth; check out my lunch recommendations that I posted earlier tonight.

In Kennebunkport, I love the Wayfarer in Cape Porpoise for breakfast -- real honest, homecooking. I never talk about price, but it's so cheap! The Wayfarer also serves lunch. We love The Ramp for lunch or dinner -- it's a casual pub setting, but it's right on the pier in Cape Porpoise. Their menu changes, but we think it's the best burger in York County! We love the Lobster Roll with homemade potato chips! The Blueberry Crumble dessert is delicious! In Kennebunkport, we eat dinner at Bandaloop all the time. It is small in there, so make a reservation. We also eat dinner at Grissini, but that can be hit or miss. They have wood-griled thin crust pizza, which we like. With its huge fireplace, it does have a nice atmosphere, however. For dinner in Wells, which is 15 minutes away from K'port, try Joshua's Restaurant. It is chef-owned and a warm and wonderful restaurant. It is a sleeper!

I also agree with emilief and all of her recommendations in Ogunquit! Barnacle Billy's will be open and it is the only place on your trip that you should have the lobster! They have the cleanest steamers and the yummiest chowder, also. Save room for the chocolate cake -- get it a la mode and ask for hot fudge...

Someone mentioned Windows on the Water -- it went out of business.

Someone mentioned google or the chamber of commerce -- forget it; they'll send you to touristy places. Listen to the locals!

Need Help for Lunch in Portsmouth

I hope I'm not too late... but don't go to any of the places that these people have suggested -- they are not good!

For a light lunch, we love Popovers. You order and pick up your meal from a counter, but the salads, sandwiches and soups are fresh, healthy and delicious. Don't forget to ask for maple butter with your popovers! The chocolate chip cookies (although small) are to die for.

You can also try Flatbreads Pizza, an organic restaurant that only serves pizza and one type of salad but the food is awesome and the vibe is groovy -- very cool and earthy. We love Jay's Heart Pizza. Ask for extra bleu cheese on your salad. Yummy gingerbread for dessert...

Your parents may enjoy Rudi's, which used to be the Metro. They have their own parking lot and it's a sit-down restaurant. I think their Caesar Salad is the best in Portsmouth and I also love their Salmon Burger. It has a nicer dining room, so it would be a better place to linger with your parents.

But I think the best place to meet them would be at the Wentworth By The Sea Hotel in New Castle. The dining room overlooks the water and the food is wonderful for a hotel. I love the Steak Gorgonzola Salad and the Lobster Bisque. They also have an awesome Jazz Brunch on Sundays!

P.S. I like your screen name -- I am a 24 junkie also!

Any Recent St. Barth Eating?

Angelina - we actually stayed at le Sereno so we did have lunch there as well. Loved the gazpacho, steak tartare and also the burger. It has a really nice casually elegant vibe that is a bit different from other places. I can't believe interlopers like yo and your husband used the pool!!!! (just kidding...)

Any Recent St. Barth Eating?

New restaurant O Corner in Gustavia -- everything on the menu sounded great, but most things disappointed. I don't know if they were out of ingredients, but I ordered a chicken with green curry and it arrived with a very nondescript brown sauce. Almost every dish in our party of six did not taste how we thought it would. The one cool thing about the restaurant is that every dish can be ordered in different sizes - small, medium, large. The atmosphere was lacking also - we sat in a back room connected to the main restaurant by sliding glass doors, but it wasn't a patio. Weird.

Also had a great dinner at Eden Rock - we actually reordered some things they were so delish! Sure, it's expensive but so is everything else. We thought this was a high point. Lunch, hoever was a huge disappointment. I agree with ddavis - nothing quite lived up to the description on the menu. Good lunch vibe, though.

Great lunch at Do Brazil and you can't beat the location on Shell Beach.

Went to Isle de France for lunch but left because it was all old people.

Excellent dinner at le Tamarin with a great wine list and great service. We ate all of the specials, but the highlight was the tuna tartare.

Also dinner at le Sereno was fabulous. I just wish there were more people in the restaurant.
