Recs for a solo diner for Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day

Nouveau Gimicky Cocktails
I had a bacon infused bourbon at Leon's Full Service in Atlanta a couple of years back. It was actually quite tasty. Bacon flavor was more of a hint or ghost than a dominant flavor.

Camberville Steak
Duckfat always tip the scales for me...boy I wish I was there to go with you! Report back on where you end up - all three sound delicious!
Camberville Steak
Doesn't Highland Kitchen have a steak on their menu? Maybe not, but I thought so....also, I'm sure Craigie has something. I've had the steak at Russell House Tavern and loved it.

Radius Burger/Lounge Review
For me the Neptune burger wins b/c of that delicious pickle relish condiment they make and put on top

(In no particular order b/c that would be like choose between children)
Craigie
Neptune
Green Street
(To stay on post - I've had the Radius burger and while I thought it was tasty, I didn't die over it. Might put it in my top 11)
This list needs updating as I haven't had the Green St version in a while and haven't yet tried the burger at Russell House Tavern in Harvard Sq.
O'Sullivans is in my top 10 - or has been - (though I perform 'surgery' so I can actually bite it) - haven't been there in at least a year and planning to go on Thursday...

Stripey - get thee to Craigie and try the burger. It's in my top three.
September Openings and Closings
Laurel on Berkeley is closed (no surprise they were always empty when I walked by). Signs in the window indicate that Geoffrey's is opening in the space "soon"

CUPCAKES
I go to Party Favors for their cupcakes - my personal favorite as long as you don't mind the Coolidge Corner hassle.
(In our neck of the woods Lyndell's is also pretty darn good)

Attire at Bergamot--teen wants to dress up--by the way, how was your dinner?
Enjoy and please report back!

That salad was amazing. I would go back and get two. I can't recall what I had for my main (it was about a month ago) but I remember liking it. It might have been fish. What I remember is that salad and the very friendly and attentive service.
Good Source for Fancy Pork Belly?
I get a nice slab each year from Houde Family Farm in Vermont. I am a member of their CSA as well but I imagine you could do a one-time or special order. http://houdefamilyfarm.com/
where should I dine on Saturday night?
It's no secret that I adore ESK and generally second any recommendation to go there, BUT the Yankees are in town this weekend so it's going to be rather crazy in Kenmore Square on Saturday night. I just thought the OP should be given fair warning!
April openings and closings
Hey now, no mocking of my hometown! Actually, I think the sudden "explosion" of liquor licenses in Winchester is fascinating. In fact, over Thanksgiving my brother organized a Winchester Center bar crawl...we'll have to add Black Horse to our itinerary for the next one.
Where's the Best Fried Chicken in Boston Area?
The Monday night fried chicken at Highland Kitchen is my current favorite.

2010 Winter RW Report
Friend here. The soup was AMAZING - early spring in a bowl. The crispy prosciutto was possibly a little unnecessary, but I loved it so I'm not really complaining.
The brisket sandwich was fantastic. Fork tender brisket, a hint of blue cheese and nicely grilled bread. There could have been a few more onion rings on top, but it's a minor issue. This was definitely a fork and knife sandwich and could have been served open face. Fried pickles were lovely as was the coleslaw.
My only real "complaint" on the night was the bread that came with the cheese plate. It was garlic bread - very garlicky garlic bread. Lovely for a pre-dinner snack but a bit too savory for after-dinner. I'd have preferred just simple crackers or the same bread without the garlic. The cheese, fruits and truffled honey were delightful though, so don't feel too bad for me.
This was definitely a meal that reminded me to go back to Gargoyle's more often - it's a great place, especially on a dreary Sunday night.
New Shanghai feast
Given my total wimpy-ness when it comes to spicy food I was limited in what I could eat this night. I did try the dan dan noodles (from the top of the dish with less sauce). They were delicious. I also enjoyed a sauce-less wonton :-), the cumin lamb and the not-spicy pork belly with leeks. For me though, the stars of the night were the bok choy in vinegar sauce and the rice cakes with shrimp. I WILL be going back for those! Oh, and the pea pod stems were bright and delicious as well.

One thing I forgot to mention in my post last week - our waitress mentioned that they had a new chef. Such a change so shortly after opening is curious...

I believe house-made. Which my friend thought made it more surprising/disappointing that it was bland.

I made my first visit on Wednesday night. My takeaway is that this is a place to go if very thirsty for beer, but the food left me wanting. We started with the truffled fries which was the absolute winner of the night - the fries were fantastic. So, I guess this is a place to go for beer and fries.
The rest of the food - was fine, not great, just fine. My DCs had the burger and the veggie burger - both declared them "okay, not great" - also the veggie burger came with cheese with no mention by the waitress or on the menu - what if one is vegan? or just doesn't want cheese?
I had an entree portion of the lobster mac and cheese. It too was fine - nothing I'd rush back for.
Service was friendly and a tad slow a times but fine overall.
Fries, entrees, three beers, two glasses of wine and a cocktail came to $120 - so somewhat reasonable.
What made the meal overly expensive was the parking tickets waiting on our two cars. WTH happened that Hampshire St and the ENTIRE neighborhood is now resident permit only? It is totally Cambridge's perogative to do this, but if I was a business I would push back to have at least *some* visitor/metered parking available. I realize this issue is totally unrelated to chow but it made my dinner at LH go from $40 to $70 - definitely not worth it at that cost.
Bottom line - fine. But, with all the options we have in Cambridge and Boston I don't feel any need to settle for "fine" when I can go elsewhere and have "great."

January 2010 Openings and Closings
Back in September I had a chat with their bartender about these renovation plans - they are going to significantly expand the bar/cafe area. Hopefully the renovations will include a way to keep it a little warmer up front.
bolognese at Prezza vs Via Matta?
If you haven't yet tried it I highly recommend the bolognese at Stella - it is my favorite restaurant version in Boston.
H-Mart Burlington!!!
I was in the neighborhood for a work errand and so popped in around 11:30 thinking to grab something for lunch and maybe dinner later this weekend. I was a little surprised to see a police detail directing traffic in the parking lot on a weekday, BUT did find a spot right away. Brought home a chicken katsu with udon soup for lunch and two packets of frozen red-bean buns for snacks and lunch next week. Was too overwhelmed to go further but I'll be back next week and may explore further...
Katsu and udon soup (from the food court) was delicious and a very generous portion for $8
going to Craigie tonight ,11/22
Yes, you can order the restaurant AND bar menu at the Chez Henri bar but only the restaurant menu in the dining room.
Just Curious - Turkey Prices Paid
If the person you saw looked worried about how she was going to fit this gigundo bird in her mother's oven AND about to tip over from the weight, then yes, it was probably me!
The debate now raging between my mother and I is "to stuff, or not to stuff" with a bird so large. But that's probably a question for the Home Cooking board.
On another note - are there any remaining Farmers' Markets open this week?
Just Curious - Turkey Prices Paid
Yeah, that's what my mom said when I dropped it off at her house! But, my brothers want leftovers. I'm thinking turkey hash for breakfast...yummm
Scary thing is I could have gone even bigger...
