Salt Lake City and environs: any interesting culinary destinations?
Will visit Salt Lake City soon, spending time there but also day-tripping an hour or so in any direction. Any culinary destinations I should hit, restaurant, food producer/vendor (like Amano Chocolate), or otherwise? (I've researched restaurants in SLC, so non-SLC restaurant recommendations welcomed.) I have no food limits.
Thanks!
Off-hour, "quick" and good eating in/near Milwaukee? (Three challenges)
Thanks for all these ideas. Due to time restrictions, I went to Martino's late afternoon and then Kopp's late night. Might try to go to Honeypie for early lunch, though a bit concerned because the highway is a mess.
Off-hour, "quick" and good eating in/near Milwaukee? (Three challenges)
This is happening on weekdays.
For the afternoon meal, needs to be fairly fast. No fine dining. Can be counter or quick service. Can't stray far off course for that.
For late night, I'll be passing back through the city, so I have flexibility. Was intrigued by the menu at Braise, but they close at 11pm, with just a limited bar menu after 10pm.
And the next day, while I'm staying close to the airport, I can drive back toward the city, as I have time.
Off-hour, "quick" and good eating in/near Milwaukee? (Three challenges)
Landing at airport mid-afternoon and needing a fairly quick bite on the way toward Ripon, but hoping for something fun, unique, interesting. (I'm omnivorous and adventurous and despise chain restaurants.) Any suggestions?
Back to Milwaukee with perhaps late-night (after 10:30pm) appetite. Anything gastropub-like or interesting still open at that hour?
And needing to be back at the airport by 12:30 the next day, I'll be searching for a substantial and delicious lunch at a place that opens early enough to get me to my flight.
Open to any and all ideas...thanks!
Good and unique near UCF?
Thanks again, folks. I ended up at Mama Millie's for lunch and enjoyed the jerk chicken and goat curry. Unfortunately, I couldn't get to Ravenous Pig. Next time. Jeremiah's to cool my mouth after MM's. It was pretty good, but a little too sweet.
Good and unique near UCF?
Perfect. Maybe I'll try to get to Ravenous Pig for lunchm, and then Mama Millie's for late dinner. Perhaps Jeremiah's for a late afternoon snack! Thanks for the suggestions...
Good and unique near UCF?
Hoping for some specific help. I'll be at UCF for a day. What would be a couple of top picks relatively close to the campus? Looking for a possible late night dinner without a long drive, or more likely a bigger lunch at a place that doesn't just serve up sandwiches for lunch.
Restaurants like Ravenous Pig look more interesting for dinner than lunch, as the intriguing dishes fall off the lunch menu. But, if it's THAT good, I can go. Still, looks like a bit of a drive from UCF, but can go if it's worth it.
(By good and unique, I mean a non-chain, nothing terribly pricey or pretentious, but serving up interesting, quality food.)
Thanks!
Orlando area top 10 - February 2012
Great advice in this thread. Hoping for some specific help. What would be a couple of top picks near UCF, where I'll be working in a couple of days? Seeking steakhouse or Brazilian/Argentine restaurant recommendations in the area
Thanks again for all of the suggestions. Looks like Miami is out of the picture, so our driving range is West Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale, if anyone has any other suggestions.
Seeking steakhouse or Brazilian/Argentine restaurant recommendations in the area
Thanks for these great suggestions so far. Chima sounds like a good possibility.
But let me ask: If we decide we want to give up the idea of Brazilian and do a good steakhouse in or near Miami, what are your best suggestions?
Seeking steakhouse or Brazilian/Argentine restaurant recommendations in the area
Planning a special occasion celebration dinner, but not wanting to break the bank TOO much.
The guest of honor is a steak lover, so I'm seeking a steakhouse that's not a chain, or even better a Brazilian churrascaria place that will offer a variety of meat. (Or an Argentine place.)
Not big drinkers, so that's not really an issue. Party of 10-12 or so. Anywhere West Palm Beach area down to the Miami area.
Any recommendations?

Thanks, folks. I still have a few more days before departing, so open any further suggestions.

Looking for restaurants that have bright and bold flavor combinations in Victoria. Recommendations of places that go beyond traditional offerings?
Yikes. Dinner tonight in or near Smithfield, RI?
Thanks, all. My time was tight, so I ended up at Pick Pockets for a quick snack, and it was pretty good.

Yikes. Dinner tonight in or near Smithfield, RI?
Thanks. Will consider these, though D Carlo may be a bit more formal than I'm seeking.
Yikes. Dinner tonight in or near Smithfield, RI?
Driving up from CT and looking for an early-ish dinner in or near Smithfield, RI. Dining solo and not looking for anything formal/fancy, and not wanting to drive into Providence and dealing with traffic/parking. I love ethnic food, something special that is regional, hole-in-the-wall, offal, etc.
Any quick suggestions?
Please pick one place for my lunch next week, based on...
Thanks, everyone, for the fabulous help. Lots of great suggestions.
I'm looking at Penang in Kennesaw for a tasty, relatively inexpensive meal for dinner, as their late hours give me flexibility about eating before or after my evening work right in Kennesaw.
For lunch, I'm torn between Heirloom Market BBQ and One-Eared Stag. I might have to contact One-Eared Stag to get a better sense of their lunch offerings, as there's little info online (even in review sites) and there's talk of the menu being revamped. I'd be looking for more of a cooked dish than a sandwich, if anyone knows the current situation there.

Please pick one place for my lunch next week, based on...
I'm due to land in Atlanta about 11am mid-week next week and will head north out of town (toward Kennesaw). Looking for an interesting lunch stop that doesn't require negotiating tough traffic or a bad/expensive parking situation.
Went to Holeman and Finch last trip for a fun dinner. I'm an adventurous eater and looking for something more than a sandwich menu. Any suggestions?
If I like Plum in Oakland, another place to try...
Thanks. I enjoyed a nice meal at Hawker Fare. Pork belly was delicious, and even the rice was well done.

Looks like this place has new ownership. Too bad! Anyone have any update?

Thanks. Wood Tavern looks fairly interesting. Looking forward to any other ideas, too.

One meal on the road from Oakland to Rohnert Park
Yes, traveling that route during a weekday afternoon, without the ability to detour much more than 20 minutes off the road, and no chance for a long meal. But looking for something interesting once I've gotten out of Oakland (unfortunately) and preferably closer to or in Rohnert Park, though not necessarily.
Any recommendations? Dining solo, and looking for late lunch or early dinner. Love chef counters, good ethnic food, and anything interesting.
Thanks!
If I like Plum in Oakland, another place to try...
I'll be passing through Oakland mid-week for a day, with a chance to eat lunch and/or a late-night (10pm or later) dinner.
Any other places to recommend?
I might hit Plum again, but looking for other great experiences like that. Note that I like innovative cuisine, but I also love interesting ethnic food, and can go from hole-in-the-wall on up. Eating solo, so not looking for anything too fancy or expensive - and bonus points if there's a chef's counter.
Any good eats Albion to Alma/Mount Pleasant to Allendale and back to Albion--or inside that "triangle"?
Thanks again to everyone for the help. I went to Pizza Sam's in Mt. Pleasant, and it was decent. After-the-fact, I was told I should have tried the double crust cooked on a screen. Next time, if I get back. Went to El Granjero in Grand Rapids, which was also good enough, and then a non-descript Chinese place in Lansing. Ugh...pretty tough area for food, and not enough time to really explore around.

Got it. I appreciate the help so far, and will report back if I find any treasures.
Any good eats Albion to Alma/Mount Pleasant to Allendale and back to Albion--or inside that "triangle"?
Hmm...I'm getting a feeling I'll be eating less in the small towns, and instead driving a bit for food.
Any good eats Albion to Alma/Mount Pleasant to Allendale and back to Albion--or inside that "triangle"?
Thanks, nsxtasy. I had checked those pages earlier, and appreciate the reminder. But also hoping for some recommendations in the specific towns I mentioned, or elsewhere outside of GR and Kalamazoo.
Any good eats Albion to Alma/Mount Pleasant to Allendale and back to Albion--or inside that "triangle"?
Yes, that will be my triangle of travel, which will be on weekdays. Any suggestions of any interesting (hole-in-the-wall and up, totally omnivorous) places to eat in any of the specifically mentioned towns, or within the triangle that's an easy drive?
(Note: my timing will probably not allow a meal right in Lansing, so no need for information in that area unless there's a quick-and-easy bite while I'm driving through.)
