Lunch vs. dinner at Arzak
I just got my reservations for Arzak in January and it's for a lunch but now I am considering trying to switch it because it just occurred to me... is there a substantial difference between the lunch and dinner experiences? I.e. is the tasting menu smaller at lunch? Maybe if a couple people who have been at each meal (respectively) could describe their experiences I could get a sense that way.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Favorite pintxos in Bilbao?
So I'm going to be In Bilbao for a day by myself and then later with some friends... saving up for Arzak in Donostia so what I'm looking for in Bilbao are a few places that have just really good local pintxos or "home cooking" type dishes (also preferably not too expensive).
Suggestions? Favorites?
Favorite Restaurants in Sevilla
In terms of tapitas in the Santa Cruz/Catedral/Alfalfa, here are my favorites. Regardless, make sure you get the solomillo al whisky somewhere:
Las Columnas (Santa Cruz)- usually packed and a favorite with tourists and locals! Solomillo al whisky there is delicious (pork medallions in a whisky, lemon and olive oil sauce), as is flamenquin.
Bar Manolo (in Alfalfa)- get their olives!!! Their solomillo is delicious as well.
Casablanca (the other side of the catedral from Santa Cruz)- apparently where the King goes for tapas when staying in the nearby Alcazar.
Also, make sure you go up to the terrace of the Hotel Doña María, right next to the Catedral, and have a drink (I recommend their agua de sevilla!)- worth it for the view alone!!
Chapel Hill: New Bakery on Franklin St.?
Rory, I'm not sure if you had the pear gelato on Feb. 14 as well, but I did and had the same experience- no detectable pear flavor and not even a very exciting creamy gelato. Went back, tried the pecan bar and a creamy mandarin cake. Pecan bar was awesome, mandarin cake was dry and the icing too sweet. Both times I was there the cases were nearly empty. I am really rooting for this place but they're going to have to step it up bigtime.
Basque restaurants in Albuquerque or Santa Fe
No, I think what I did was think Santa Fe Basque was in Santa Fe, not Fresno, and made the leap from that...oops! thanks guys!
Basque restaurants in Albuquerque or Santa Fe
Going to be in Albuquerque for 2 days and Santa Fe for 2 days this January, and being in love with Basque cuisine (and from North Carolina, where there is none) I'm looking for a Basque restaurant to check out. I saw the Santa Fe Basque website, but the food on their menu (charbroiled T-bone, fried chicken) doesn't look particularly distinctively Basque. Is my impression correct there?
Recommendations otherwise? Thanks!
