Using oblong enameled cast iron on smoothtop range

Hi,

CI is fine to use on a smooth-top, just be sure to place it down carefully.

Our GE Electric range has a "bridge" burner that works perfect for my oval shaped Le Creuset. I believe most newer stove models will have this feature. Ours turns on the front left burner and then the space between the front left and back left burners creating an oval(ish) shape.

Staub Cocotte enamel question

Correct, it was a second that may contain exterior visual imperfections. I figured the cooking surface would the enamel fully intact. I spoke with them today and they are shipping a new one out.

Staub Cocotte enamel question

Thanks, I will contact them and hope for the best as I was very unimpressed with their customer service while waiting for the item to arrive. I never buy "B" stock items but the price was too good to pass up, hopefully I can swap it out for one without any interior problems.

Staub Cocotte enamel question

Originally posted in the Staub private sale thread, figured it'd get more visibility here.

I recently purchased a 7 qt. Staub B-stock round Cocotte from Zwilling online. While I anticipated visual/cosmetic blemishes on the exterior, it appears that it also has a small chip in the interior enamel.

Will this effect performance and/or worsen over time? Not sure if I should contact them for a replacement or if the chip is harmless.

My Cocotte arrived today, thrilled to see it was in pretty good condition with only a small chip on the exterior lid surface. I did notice a small chip in the interior enamel while washing, is this something to be concerned with?
I expected cosmetic blemishes but wouldn't an interior chip affect the performance?

Those still waiting for shipment may want to take a look at the order status this morning, looks like mine shipped out yesterday.

Have a great 4th!

Agreed. I'm a little concerned that I've not received a response from their customer service either(emailed and called back on Wednesday).

It's more the lack of communication than the shipping time that is bothering me at this point.

Out of curiosity, has anyone who ordered an item last Friday received it or any type of status update?

My card was charged 6/20 but the UPS tracking status has been "billing information received" for the last seven days.

I've sent an email to their customer service which as not been responded too, a little concerned at this point.

Older vintage wine/cork question

Evening,

In the midst of a great (although quite wet) visit
to Napa Valley and had the opportunity to taste and purchase an older (1998) Cabernet. Noticed afterwards that the cork appears to be sliding (for lack of a better word) down the neck of the bottle. Is this cause for concern? Haven't had a wine with this much age on it before and wanted to be sure.

Thanks! - Joe

3 nights in Napa (foodie trip first wine secondary)

My two cents on some of the wineries you listed --

Sinskey is definitely worth a stop, excellent pinot's and a good tasting experience as they serve a nice plate of snacks/small bites. No reseravtion needed which is nice.

Frog's Leap is great as well, awesome tour, very fun atmosphere. Don't believe they produce a Pinot Noir but the other wines were tasty. You do need to book an appointment with them ahead of time.

Thanks so much for the suggestions!

I was debating replacing Press with another restaurant as am not crazy about the idea of spending $70 on a steak. Was thinking either Goose & Gander or Solbar, just debating whether I will be up for the 30+ minute drive from our hotel in Napa to Solbar. I hear G&G is good for drinks, the menu didn't look that interesting however.

We have been once before but didn't get to Bouchon Bakery so I will definitely stop this trip. We did go to Oxbow Market (I think?) last time as we went to Model Bakery for breakfast a few times.

Thanks again!

Great, thanks for the feedback!

I did realize that Friday is a little tight, I may end up dropping Heitz Cellars entirely so we have more free time in St.Helana/Yountville on our last day.

We are staying at the Napa Winery Inn, so about 15-20 to Hess, plan to spend an hour and a half or so there between tasting and taking in all of the art.

Thanks again for taking the time to help, both this board and your prior posts have been a great resource.

Help choosing between restauarants in Napa Valley

Hi Maria,

I read back through several of your posts while planning some of our stops, any recommendations for our last night out from the three options I listed above (or, a suggestion outside of those)?

Thanks!

Whoops meant to write "Zuzu"; we are going there our first night for Tapas. Just having a tough time trying to pick our last stop of the week.

Hi,

Headed to Napa Valley for 6 days/nights in late March/early April.

Have searched and read through almost every thread on the subject and was able to narrow down restaurants for 5 of the 6 nights. Was hoping for assistance with the last choice.

So far, we have: Zulu, Adhoc (at my wife's insistence), Farmstead, Press, and Bistro Don Giovanni.

I've wanted to try Bouchon since our last trip to the Valley in '12 but have seen very mixed reviews. Any recommendations from the list below (or any that are not on the list?) Looking to keep the budget to around $200-$225 for two people. Thanks!
