Swiss Cottage Street Market - Eton Avenue Well at least they're not still calling it a farmers' market! The real one, which was the third to open in London, was moved out of Swiss Cottage by the council when they "regenerated" and never invited back. It still survives in the car park behind the O2 centre further up Finchley Road, near Homebase, every Wednesday 10-3. |

I'm moving from NYC to London for univ... We stay in Jackson Heights when in NYC, I'm no expert but I agree with oonth that in London our South Indian communities each live in separate neighbourhoods, whereas in Jackon Hts they seem to be all together. Maybe not everyone lives there, but it's definitely a cultural/commercial hub. As a Londoner, I find the Jackson Diner overrated. Can JFores be more precise about the street food please? Another thing that nobody seems to be analysing. Regardless of the exchange rate, I have observed over the years that it's always been cheaper in London to buy ingredients to cook than to eat out, and that this is less true in NY. Could this be because of overheads? (more space/land, cheaper labour, both in the city and production and scale of ingredients). |

I'm moving from NYC to London for univ... There are about 15 certified farmers' markets in London (see lfm.org.uk). Growing Communities organic in Stoke Newington is one, but Alexandra Palace is not. Prices are more reasonable for basic ingredients than commonly believed. |

I only buy cheapest seats - you can also use airmiles and other points. I used to spurn the food but it recently improved - I had a nice (organic?) salmon salad. St Pancras claims it will have a "farmers' market" - a misnomer, it will probably be a gourmet food market as in NY Grand Central. All the shops and food outlets there are clones. Diesel fumes would suppress my appetite anyway. |

Growing Communities in Stoke Newington is a charity which does many things, including an organic box scheme, and a certified organic farmers'' market (every Saturday at a school on the junction of Stoke Newington High St/Church Street). They used to have a CSA relationship with a farm in the country called Veg in Clover - don't know if that still happens. London does not seem to have the same kind of direct links between a particular city block and a farm like in NY. Londonfoodlink.org.uk is excellent resource. I have NY family and friends, and look forward to meeting you. |
