DiFara's on Friday night advisable?

Seems like 3-5 might be a sweet spot between lunch and dinner.

park slope A & S to close

Sigh. I love those sandwiches. And the beef is excellent as well. I'm leaving too, although not exclusively due to rents, and it boggles the mind to think that building owners can expect these local merchants to instantly double their sales to cover newly doubled rents.

Newark Penn to NJPAC on foot

Thanks for the suggestion. The lady is a fool for anything to do with Portugal, so this sounds like it'll make her night.

Newark Penn to NJPAC on foot

The little lady and I are leaving Brooklyn for a concert in Jersey this weekend, and we are looking for a restaurant in the corridor between Newark Penn and the PAC where one can have dinner in about an hour. My search of this board brought up the "Basque" and Portuguese places, but I was looking for a little more variety.

Any offerings are greatly appreciated.

Filthy Martini

I accidentally created a Flthy Martini for my ladyfriend about four years ago when I ran out of ice between making mine gin and hers vodka. Eventually, the Filthy evolved into about 2 tablespoons of gin added to vermouth and vodka, garnished with a blue-cheese stuffed olive or lemon twist. Sort of a reverse Vesper, as I would later discover. For a time, you could order these at several local bars in Park Slope Brooklyn until she finally converted over to gin. I guess another appropriate name might be the Training Wheel.

Dram Shop

Walked by briefly today while doing errands, and I thought that the menu stated that the $9 burger does come with fries. Fries on their own were $6. Perhaps a large portion? Let's try to report correctly.

Dram Shop

I haven't been to Dram yet (will check it out this week), but if these prices are true it's confirmation of a really disturbing trend. The unsustainable high commercial rents are already starting to kill this neighborhood. It's really sad when new places have to charge this much. That's more than a Stone Park burger. Add in $3 or $4 and that's an Al di La entree. And, hey, I love a bar burger as much as the next guy, but throw in two beers and that's a $30 snack (without tip) that I could have at home for less than $10. The number of people going out in Park Slope is not increasing at the same rate as the rents. Unfortunately, there are going to be a lot of empty storefronts in our future, just as there were 5 or 6 years ago.

Sidecar on 5th ave in South Slope?

Just got back from my first visit, and it was very good. Mellow crowd for a Saturday, surprisingly it wasn't very busy. Oysters and crostini with liver were great, and the fried chicken was crisp and juicy. I loved the cocktails and the well-balanced proportions . (I love quaffing a stiff drink, but I also enjoy sifting through the flavors of a great cocktail.) All in all a great time and myself and B71ette will return. Full Disclosure: Bart, one of the brothers, has served me drinks in the neighborhood for a long time, but I feel that at least tonight, my glasses were not particularly rose.

Top 3 steakhouses in Manhattan

I've had two superb meals at Robert's. It's not cheap by any means, but if you're into the scenery and occasional celeb watching, there's is nothing more "guy's night" than this. My girlfriend loved her steak so much, she bought me a lapdance afterwards.

Help! Bostonhound needs Sat dinner/Sun lunch near 5th St and 8th Ave PARK SLOPE

If you're in the mood for Italian, there is always Al Di La and Tempo (both near 5th and Carroll). If ADL is too crowded, just walk half a block south. You will certainly enjoy a sandwich at Stone Park, mentioned above. It does get crowded, though, so there may be a wait. I prefer to just sit at the bar. And they can't serve Bloody Marys until noonish by law. There is nothing too spectacular on 7th by you, but a car service will take you to and fro any place in the neighborhood for about $6.

The Bageltique on 5th b/w President and Carroll in Park Slope just reopened. Not "authentic," but ok.
