Tired of usual suspects - looking for good bday dinner place

Thanks for the suggestions...
the Mozzas are great. Craft was at for dinner about a month ago and - a bit stuffy although food was pretty solid.
Was thinking Comme Ca although don't know if they have a full bar.. martini kind of essential - at least one.

Havent been to Polo Lounge in awhile... thoughts? Seems like it could be fun..
How is Tower Bar (at old argyle hotel)?
Whats almost as good as Cut? I love Cut but was just there...its probably one of my favorite steakhouses... any other recommendations?
Whats else is new in town?

Onion Rings

Flemings down south or in palm desert has literally doughnut size rings that are phenomenal!
I would 2nd CUT... or Simon LA...
But if you can get to Flemings - its worth it not only for the rings but the whole dining experience!

Murano in west hollywood

so i did end up going and it was ok...
great bar, food was ok. appetizers were good, but nothing to write home about. and very small portions at expensive prices. terrible steak that was rubber.. sent it back. replacement was just so-so.
they do have murano all over the restaurant. keep in mind its 2 seconds away from "boys town" so something to think about in terms of if its "your thing" - or not.
dont know if i would go back.

HELP!! SUSHI with friends WEST LA/SM/Westwood

ya ... i gotta tell you, used to be a fan of tengu a few years ago - it was fun and the fish was much better. last time i was there, we had some sushi that was warm! thats just wrong. and esp when you walk out of there unsatisfied and just spent a fortune.

HELP!! SUSHI with friends WEST LA/SM/Westwood

Asuka is your best bet - on westwood blvd...
great chefs and great fish. not too cheap and not too expensive..
dont go to tengu - you will for sure, without a doubt spend more than 100.

Ocean Ave. Seafood. . .worth it?

i know chris and im sure he'll make a difference over there...however, i would say if youre looking for the best in samo.. dont hit ocean ave. it isnt the best, but its good. lobster taquitos if they still have em are insane. ceaser salad good, stuffed shrimp (if they still have are great), most of the salmons and entree fishes are good.. the food overall is just hit and miss. what about BOA?

Goodbye Zankou

I agree.. Zankou is straight slop! many other places to go with fresher not as greasy shwarma, gyros, etc..

Best smoothie place?

I agree Frank... not too many places around that make innovative fruit smoothies and/or drinks - au natural!

The Ivy

he cant be doing too bad over there at Koi... He moved into the Alto Palato space across the street which is gigantic. I hear movie execs (which makes up at least 50% of the people who dine out in los angeles) praising The Bridge constantly. Koi has lines out the door on any given night, has a packed house at least 6 out of 7 nights a week solid and its still tough to get a reservation even 3 years later... the guy cant be hurtin that much!
Go to Cut for dinner and Polo Lounge for breakfast or lunch and call it a day!

The Ivy

Not worth it! trust me... im a native and have been going to the Ivy since it opened (even as a little kid). It has gone downhill over the years - food is not what it was and has been the case for a good 5 years now. You want to see celebrities and have great food? I can give you several options:
Mortons ( on Melrose in west hollywood)
Cut (in Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills)
Polo Lounge (in Beverly Hills Hotel)
Koi (sushi restaurant on La Cienega in west hollywood)
Area (nightclub and restaurant on La Cienega in west hollywood)

If you need anymore - let me know
