Steak in White Plains?

very well said billy...........honestly though how does BLT stay in business with a food cost so high? (60%?---JEEZE!!)....when I was working in restos the kitchens would hover around 30% food cost and the owners weren't exactly swimming in the moolah.....

Options near Ritz Carlton Westchester?

I'm confused. Is Bao's typical mall food? Or is it good solid food with an atmosphere?

The pizza stinks around here!

I have heard good things about Motorino. But I am not too happy to hear they are finishing their pies with pecorino. Dom Demarco of Difara's also finishes his pies with a sprinkling of Grana. It's not that uncommon to hear of pizzaiolos doing that. I agree though.........leave the Grana or pecorino to the rigatoni bolognese...

Long Ridge Tavern in Stamford

makes sense.......so you work a little harder as a waiter and the would be bartender is one less person you have to "tip out" at the end of the night equaling more moolah in your pocket......

Long Ridge Tavern in Stamford

I was invited by a couple friends last night. I knew nothing about the place. We made the trek up the merritt on the slushy night from Port Chester.......ended up having a lovely evening........the place dates back to the early 1800's.......it's filled with old charm and nostalgia.................when we walked in they had a lovely wood burning oven with a copper pot on top simmering with pear, apple, cinnamon, bay leaf and cloves.......the smell drifted throughout the place......

My friend, who is a local and somewhat frequent diner, had notified me that the food can be up and down......so I decided on a burger because I was in a "burger mood"......it ended up being perfectly cooked, very tasty, nicely sized and served on a fresh brioche bun.....the beer was great......I had a couple Long Ridge Ales......

Service was so so.......our waiter was very rushed all night long.......they didn't have a bar tender........ I noticed that all of the waiters were rushing behind the bar and fetching their own beer and mixing drinks all night........it was tough to track the waiter down for water refills or any other request.......nontheless the iffy service didn't take away from the great ambiance and the great conversation.

They also had a nice 3 or 4 piece live band which started jamming out xmas tunes around 9pm ish......overall I thought it was the perfect place and setting to chill out on a freshly snow covered night.

BMW--you need to do more research about wood burning ovens.

......if the oven is built correctly, the pie should cook in under two minutes thus yielding a perfectly cooked pizza with a 'crisp crunch'......there is nothing gentle about coal or gas heat.......they are both very dry and overpowering.........wood, not only imparts great flavor, but you get the direct heat from the fire and the hot air which again yields a 'crispy crust'.....

that said.......in my opinion there are no good 'wood burning oven' joints in westchster or fairfield.....

Jfoods visit F.I.S.H. (Port Chester) - Very Good Potential

I like F.I.S.H...........I've been maybe 5 or 6 times......and the seafood has always been super fresh (even on Sundays)......It seems the chef really takes pride in obtaining the best line-caught fish.......

The service has never been a hit for us......there always seems to be some sort of hiccup......whether it be a mistake or an " I don't really care" attitude......but the good food usually makes up for it......

It is an interesting journey to get there......just when you think you're lost and are finally ready to turn around it seems that you pull up in front of the restaurant......

If i saw Fuld there I would have asked him to pick up my bill......I mean, ya know....after 2007's 45 million dollar salary and 22 million dollar bonus......I think he coulda hooked me up....

November '08 - Crabtree's Kittle House - Long writeup

I've personally never been to a restaurant where you can make substitutions on the "tasting menu". I"v e also never been to a restaurant that offers a tasting menu to just one person at the table; meaning that all the diners must participate in the tasting. So in that aspect I think it is sort of 'implied'. However, I never assume, and always ask if it doesn't specify on the menu.
Granted I don't know how busy the restaurant was amongst other factors but it sounds like they could have bended a little bit for you guys to accommodate the fact that you can not eat seafood and your wife REALLY wanted the "tasting".
The wine situation of not being able to find the bottle really boggles me. I can understand being out of the wine but not being able to find it is a little weird.
As far as the decanting of the wine; I don't see the complaint there. In my opinion, it's proper wine service if you order a decent bottle of wine. Any restaurant with a wine program such as the Kittle Houses' would do the same for you. It's like if you went to the bathroom and left your napkin on your chair and when you came back it was nicely folded on the table for you........would you complain...?

Some updates and quick notes on Port Chester

pretty funny.......i too, have been on a small port chester empanada crusade for the past couple of weeks.......
tonight i hit up (the name of the place escapes me) a small bodega directly across from sosa's pizza (formerly railroad pizza) on the corner of pearl and irving.......they were offering two types of empanadas........chicken and spinach filled......i gotta say......they were the largest ones i've found thus far in p. chester........dough was nice.....egg washed yellow......kind of had a sweetness to it though.....which i found a little unusual.......both fillings were mediocre......spinach was just that.......and the chicken was just that.......no spices....diced vegetables.......nada......
tomorrow i'm gonna hit up that little corner misti cafe......heard they've got the authentic ones......

tarry lodge- my take

i've eaten there twice and i'd have to agree with you on all levels....good but not great.........though, even when the buzz dies down, i don't see it as the type of place where i can just pop in and have a salad and a pizza without waiting 30 mins.-1 hr......hopefully i'm wrong........we shall see....
