No problem. Perennial looks great. I really had my sights set on a tasting menu though...

Thanks Hatori! Thanks for the great comparisons! Chang's Momofuku Ko was one of the best meals I've ever had and I adore The Modern.

SO funny you said that! After doing more research, Bon Soiree is my #1 choice. However, on Saturdays they have some funky reservation policy where you have to be on their e-mail list. I have signed up but haven't heard from them yet so I don't want to get my hopes up :\

I'm also considering North Pond. Is it worth it?

Foodie visiting from NYC. Need great restaurant.

Hi all,
I'm a big foodie from NYC visiting Chicago in a couple of weeks and I'm trying to find a great romantic restaurant to go to with a friend I haven't seen in a while. In NYC my favorite places are Gramercy Tavern, Lure, The Modern, and Allen and Delancey (for any of you out there who know both cities). We want somewhere really nice, but not break-the-bank. (Alinea, Charlie Trotter's and Spiaggia are a bit too expensive). I was thinking about Boka or possibly Perennial. Ideally I'd like to find a place that does a 3-4 course tasting for under $100 per person (not including wine). Type of cuisine is not important as long as it's tasty. Ambiance and great wine list are key. Any help MUCH appreciated.
Thanks!

Bistro La Tour is closing!

Apparently because he doesn't want to work to make money. Wish we were all so lucky. :)

Bistro La Tour is closing!

The quaint, antique-laden bistro on 3rd between 75th and 76th, La Tour, is closing (I believe at the end of this week). They are famous for their "All you can eat moule et frite" for $19. You can choose from four different broths and gorge yourself one last time.

The word is that the owner finally bought the building (which he's been trying to do for quite some time), and will now lease the restaurant space himself.

Just thought some of you Upper East Siders would like the inside scoop, so you could say a proper goodbye.

Parent's 30th Wedding Anniversary

My parents are coming to the city from Florida for their 30th wedding anniversary and I'm in charge of picking the place for our dinner. My parents are pretty hip so it doesn't need to be super formal. They love Lure Fishbar, Uva and anything not too stuffy. We want something special but not breaking the bank (i.e. less expensive than Gramercy Tavern). Also, no Asian cuisine. Prefer steak/seafood.

I was thinking Union Square Cafe, Olives, Mercer Kitchen, one of the BLTs...

Any suggestions?

Upper East Side Eats?

Uva on 2nd between 77th and 78th--great rustic italian food and wine bar--kinda pricy.
Beyoglu on 81st and 3rd for Mediterranean tapas on the cheap
The new Hi-Life on 78th and 2nd has a great atmosphere and 1/2 price sushi on mon and tues...not to mention giant martinis.
Vespa on 2nd between 83 and 85 (can't remember which block!) is also great italian and has a really cool back garden when it's not freezing.
Bardolino on 78th and 2nd is also pretty delish, if you can get past the fact that it looks like a cheap hotel lobby.
Iron Sushi on 78th between 1st and 2nd is great for eat in or take out.
La Tour, as Jojo said, is also great basic french fare with killer mussels.

By the way DTUT coffee shop has been closed for a good 6 months and a wine bar is opening there soon.

Lunch help- far west Chelsea

Tia Pol on 21st and 10th is great. A sit down Spanish tapas place open for lunch Tuesday-Fri from noon til 3. New York Mag gives it five stars and it's really delicious. Might not be the healthiest of the healthy, but you can find some veggie options there. www.tiapol.com.
