Restaurants with private rooms in West LA

Thanks everyone for great suggestions. Craft and Melisse are a bit out of our price range. Did not know Fundamental LA has a private room, good info.
We were also suggested Musha and Picca. Any thoughts on those?

Restaurants with private rooms in West LA

Any recommendations for a restaurant in Westwood/Santa Monica general area that has a private room that can accommodate 15 people (including kids)? Cuisine very flexible, pricing midrange is ideal. Timing would be early evening, 5-7

Thanks for the responses...does anyone know of any places closer to SF Valley or West LA? LongBeach is a bit of a drive and I can't seem to find a local Sierra Produce

Ab Goosht somewhere other than Attari in Westwood?

I have family coming for a few days. Last time they had and loved Ab Goosht in Attari. Unfortunately this time they will not be here on Friday, so is there another restaurant in the area that makes it?

We plan to have a family style meal for about 10 people and they wanted to try some Persian classics. In addition to the Attari ab goosht my usual go to is the walnit/pomegranate stew in any place. Are there any other recommendations to get a good sample of different flavors? I usually go to Shahrezad on Westwood, but I know there are other good restaurants. Any recommendations would be great.

Breakfast goodies for the office between Sherman Oaks and Woodland Hills

Our office used to be in Glendale, and we had a weekly Porto's run. Now company relocated to Woodland Hills, and I take 101 from Sherman Oaks to Woodland Hills. I've been looking for a place along that general route that opens by 6:30-7 am and has some tasty morning type foods- muffins, doughnuts, pastries, etc. I drove down Ventura last week, and did not see anything other than Yum Yums and Winchells and various promising bakeries that open at 8 or 9 but I do not know the area well at all.

Can I use angelhair for noodle kugel?

Due to a miscommunication, a family member cooked a whole box of angelhair, when we needed about 1/10 for soup. So now I have a mountain of cold angelhair, and no idea what to do with it.

I always loved sweet noodle kugel, never made it, and all recipes I seem to find online call for wide egg noodles (such as the link below)
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/da...

I am concerned that if I substitute angelhair, I will just get mush.

Do you think I can do it? And does anyone have a great noodle kugel recipe for a first time try?
Thanks!

Place for Dessert (Preferably West ("Wet") LA)

We've got a birthday tonight, and dinner is taken care of, but I was thinking about dessert for two later in the evening. Basically, the theme should be "romantic and decadent." Quiet wouldn't hurt either. Any thought?

Which Farmer's Market Cookbook?

I am not a sophisticated or very skilled cook, but I do like to cook, usually pretty easy recipes (not a lot of time, I have a full time job and a 3 month baby).

I am trying to usher a healthier era into my family with the birth of my baby. I love farmer's markets and live in LA with an embarrassing bounty. However I am not sure how to cook most the great produce they have, and always seem to fall back on same steamed broccoli and lemon greenbeans.

I have been looking for a good, simple, basic farmer's market cookbook, and wanted to get some recommendations. Some seem wonderful exploration of a particular city which is great, but not what I am looking for. Still others presuppose lots of time, possession of unusual ingredients (saffron, etc) and skill level sadly above my own.

So I need something that is primarily a recipe book utilizing basic, easy recipes for fresh farmers market goodies. If it deals with CA centric seasons and produce, all the better. Thanks!

Downtown on Sunday 4-6 PM?

I have some family come into town for a very short period. They are staying downtown (will have a car), and unfortunately the only time they have open to see us is 4-6PM ( maybe as late as 7). So we are looking for a restaurant within relatively short driving distance in that time period. Also, both we and they have infant children, so some place that can be comfortable with an 2 and 8 month old. Any suggestions much, much appreciated.

Honey-apricot jam recipe (split from L.A. board)

I have the same method for all thin skinned fruit- peaches, apricots, tomatoes (are tomatoes a fruit?). Score the skin at the round tip, a large, shallow X. Drop for a 4-5 seconds into boiling water, fish them out, and peel off right away, the scored skin should be curling, so you can peel right off. Helps if you have asbestos fingers, as I do. If you can't peel it right out of boiling water, alternative is to throw into icebath. However for me, for skin to peel easily with icebath method, fruit has to be kept in boiling water longer, up to 25 seconds.

Did Blenheim apricot season start?

Thank you! I know where I am heading next week :)

Any recipe suggestions, in the meanwhile? Like, the pie JudiAu mentioned? I am also partial to cobblers, crisps and tarts. Of courses fresh is still the best.

Did Blenheim apricot season start?

Calendar tells me now is the time for Blenheim apricots. Has anyone seen them this year at any farmer's markets? Which ones? I used to get them at Santa Monica Wednesday market for the few weeks they were in season, but now changed jobs and can't make it there Wednesdays. Any suggestions for a weekend market would be great. I am hoping Sunday Hollywood has them

Wedding at New Otani

My fiance and I love the Japanese Garden at the New Otani, and are planning to get married there. The coordinator there has been extremely helpful, but before we make the final decision, we wanted to get any feedback chows have about the place. Have you been to a wedding or another function there? How was the food? The service? The space? Is there something in particular that worked or did not work?
We have a list of a dozen entrees to choose from and 50 or so appetizer types. Any suggestions regarding New Otani experiences, or general wedding tips (such as how many appetizers does an average guest eat, hot or cold appetizers, etc)

Thanks in advance!

Cooking classes in West LA

My fiance and I like to cook, and I thought a good Christmas present would be some fun cooking course where we could work together. Google came up with a bevy of listings, but no clear frontrunner. Anyone has any recommendations? Thanks!

Beard Papas...coming to Sawtelle TOMORROW

I came by this morning, around 10:20. A lovely group of girls who filled my order as I watched and salivated. Literally, filled them with custard. Only puffs for now are vanilla -absolute heaven. First devoured in the parking lot- light, not too sweet. The shell crunchy and light and addictive. Green tea and chocolate to be added soon. Not too many customers this morning, maybe only a dozen, no line. They had some baloons and free coffee. It looks like it will be a little combination cafe/bakery.

I did not see a sign outside, but they had some grand opening baloons. It is in the mall on the same side as Hide, directly across the street from Blue Marlin, on the first floor. It seems to be sharing its space with the Mousse Factory.

It is very close to home, so it will be a regular stop. Thanks for the tip about the opening.

PS- they are so good, that even my sweet averse SO has stolen some from me. I might have to get a refill.

Peruvian or other ethnic eats in Santa Monica/West LA?

Not entirely in the neighborhood, but I love Mario's Peruvian
Mario's Peruvian & Seafood
5786 Melrose Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90038-3844

I do not recall the name of the dish now, but I always get a big heap of potatoes stir fried with seafood. Greasy and tasty!

Aphrodisiac - near corner of SMB and Beverly Glen

Any other comments? We got an invitation to go, apparently distributed in the restaurant's neighborhood. Four course menu for a special price of $19, if you have the invitation. I am not usually one for gimmicky restaurants- but it might be an interesting experience and an affordable way to check it out.

Portos Bakery

Love the pear croissants and the apricot and cheese...and those little mango turnovers are great. All cakes are great, and they make amazing chocolate chip cookies, but are almost always out of them. They are not crunchy, but are soft and poofy, almost like scones.

Tapas in West LA

Every time I visit Boston I got to Dali Restaurant. http://www.dalirestaurant.com/ And when I get back to LA I get depressed. Do we have a tapas restaurant, or even a good Spanish food restaurant? I am particularly interested in Westwood/WestLA 405/10 intersection area, but am willing to travel. Not as far as Boston, although sometimes the craving hits and 5 hour flight starts sounding reasonable.
