Looking for Large Group for Thanksgiving

Not sure if any of these places would help, but maybe you'll get some ideas: http://blog.foodiebytes.com/post/12797817774/thanksgiving-on-the-town-nyc

Coupons and Deals

FoodieBytes has 30% off lots of L.A. restaurants. I'm in Boston so I can't vouch for which restaurants are good or not, but they link to yelp and I know that they have great Boston restaurants for their deals so I assume there is a good selection in many cities.

Anyone tried FoodieBytes yet?

I was wondering if anyone has made a reservation with FoodieBytes yet? I'm about to make my first reservation and was looking for some feedback. I've used groupons and the like before but this is a new format and the discounts are phenomenal so I feel like I can't lose.

Would love some feedback.

Thanks.

One weekend only in NYC, help!

It's not sushi, but I highly recommend Momofuku Ssam (or any other) for the amazing steamed pork buns among other things.

For brunch/breakfast, we really the Popover cafe. I highly recommend looking at some local nyc food blogs. do a google search or check out sites like eaterny or the NYT food and wine section online.

Happy eating.

TW Food - disappointing

We went to TW Food when they were fairly new to the neighbourhood as well. We were also a bit disappointed. However, we went recently again and had fabulous food.

If you are still in the neighbourhood I would recommend trying it again. I think the quality of the food is excellent, the price is fair, and the flavours in each dish are spot on (the first time we went I found some of the flavour combinations a bit odd.)

If you do go again, I'd love to hear how you feel about it.

Boston Super Bowl Specials?

Formaggio Kitchen in Cambridge will be having their barbecue and you can preorder if you don't want to stand out in the cold to get it (Saturday)

The Monday Club also in Cambridge will have a special Super Bowl Menu (Sunday)

relatively new to boston.. help?

If you are missing some great cheese or charcuterie. You must head over to Formaggio Kitchen in Cambridge. They have the best and greatest selection around. Whole Foods at Fresh Pond (and others) also have very good cheese selections but not nearly as many specialty choices.

For breakfast (Turkish) check out Sofra. I agree the best french baguette is the clear flour baguette.

The best French cooking I have had outside of France is at Craigie Street Bistrot now Craigie on Main. I also really like Chez Henri. If you want somewhere to eat late at night that is good (it's not that late but open until 10:00 - late if you're a mom/dad) I highly recommend the Deluxe Town Diner in Watertown.

that's a start...

Comella's in Brookline?

I also loved Comella's. I took out food from there one night after going to the movies ( I think). My memory is a little perforated so I must have been pregnant at the time too. In any case I highly recommend it based on what I remember.

Does anyone know if it is moving or if they are opening another location?

Thanks.

Stone Hearth Pizza, Belmont -pleasant meal for too much $$$

I love the pizza at Stone Hearth too (there is a new one on Mass. Ave in Cambridge and I think they deliver), but I do find it overly pricey. Every once in a while I splurge.

In season, I love to make our own pizza with our CSA veggies. We buy the dough usually for convenience and then make pizza.

I'm glad everyone likes it because I worried that it wouldn't last long because of the $$$.

Boston Globe Mag. article re: prices in Boston

I scanned most of the discussion and saw that many really good "Boston" restaurants (mostly in Cambridge because that's what I know better) were not listed.

For example, Elephant Walk recently wrote in their blog about the value of food. Elephant recently lowered prices.

Fairly new to the scene is Sofra which I think is fairly priced and delicious. I love to go to the Monday Club (of Upstairs on the Square) for lunch and it is fair prices (though on the high end).

I know there are more, but can't think of them at the moment.

There are also all the hidden gems and holes in the wall places that are great but not mentioned here..you have to dig a little deeper which is not too hard to do on Chowhound.

Comprehensive Chowish Craft Cocktail Compendium '09

definitely love the drinks at Cuchi Cuchi (the setting is a bit on the "girly" side for guys and gals who can handle it.) I had the Joie Vert at Craigie on Main and loved it.

My brother and I enjoyed a good drink at the bar on a Monday night at Summer Shack. Good drink, quiet night.

I miss the bartender from Frasiers though....

Raclette Craving

I love Raclette too!

I'm not exactly sure where you can find the grill, maybe Sur La Table at the Chestnut Hill Mall or something.

In terms of ingredients, I would head to Formaggio Kitchen. They have the cheeses, meats, and cornichons (on the side) to make the perfect Raclette party.

I know I have also bought Raclette cheese at Whole Foods Fresh Pond.

Hope this helps.

Capone foods in Somerville

We had the lemon pasta yesterday with their frozen clam sauce. We all really enjoyed it. I also got the spinach pasta and the meat sauce, which we will try today.

It's great place around the holidays because you can get several fast options for dinners (and the price is fair). You can also pick up great host and hostess gifts or some bread and tapenade or cheeses to have on hand for when friends drop by for a drink or something.

ISO Almond Crescent Cookies with Powdered Sugar

Formaggio Kitchen has them and I believe they are from Lakota bakery. I'm pretty sure that Russo's also carries them. Darwin's in Harvard Square also carries the Lakota cookies.

Good luck...

Where are the great sit-down breakfast (not brunch) spots in Cambridge!?

I would definitely try Sofra Bakery, Hi Rise Bakery, Darwin's, and I like Uncommon Grounds in Watertown near Cambridge border.

'In Season' produce delivery comes to Brookline and JP

I have a couple articles about delivery choices in the Boston area. I hope they are useful. I have used some and plan to try out in season now that my CSA is over for the season.

If you are interested in the articles they can be found here: http://www.examiner.com/x-1240-Boston-Family-Foodie-Examiner~y2008m10d16-Delivery-101--Boston-Organics.
There is a whole section entitled delivery 101 just see the list on the right hand side.

Hope this helps.

Take Out Thanksgiving Dinner

I think supporting Verrill Farm would be great after such a horrible fire. I know that Oleana had a special dish that helped supported Verrill Farm, and if the food is top notch and prices fair then I say go for it!

Boston for visiting (mostly) veggie 'hounds

I highly recommend Sofra or Oleana.
You can also try some of the mexican restaurants like Ole in Inman Square.

Local Fresh Turkey

I'm looking to get a small turkey for thanksgiving, and I'd like it to be local. I know you have to get in early before the turkeys all sell out but I'm having trouble finding places/farms in the area. I'm searching the farmer's markets and I know that Formaggio Kitchen will have some, but they said they'll all be big.

Any tips?

Thanks.
