Lunch in Malibu
I wouldn't recommend Gladstones at all. Read previous discusions. Bad reputation. I ate there there a couple of weeks ago, limited menu, very pricey and TERRIBLE service. Nice view and tourists have got to be the only thing keeping this place open. Good luck!
New Wave for Gladstones??
Ate there two weeks ago with my wife. Beautiful Saturday afternoon around sunset, balcony seat right on the sand and .............terrible service. I mean terrible. The manager actually told us our waitress went home for the day, leaving us to sit there! Turns out she was on a "smoke break". Nice.
We really didn't see any grilled fish on the menu. Like a grilled halibut, swordfish etc. The manager on duty, Andrew was nice and tried to make it better but the sunset dinner was already ruined.
The overpiced limited menu food was crap, service crap = we'll never go back. Too bad, don't waste your time or money.
J & J's BBQ & FISH in Pomona
I take it that the one in Ontario was good? I live right up the street from the one in Pomona. I'll have to try it and report back.
Best thing I ate at the L.A. County Fair...
Deep fried carne asada pizza? How can you go wrong? Deep fried, carne asada and pizza. Those words togther spell HEAVEN! Nice one ns1!
Any good Spanish restaurants?
Stumbled on Cafe Sevilla in Long Beach yesterday. We really enjoyed the decor, ambiance and food. We sat at the bar so service was fine. Viva Madrid in Claremont is the only Spanish restaurant I had been to so I was curious. The basic sangria was good and it was nice to see about 9 different choices for sangria. I believe Viva Madria has only one, which doesn't have near the depth of flavor of Cafe Sevilla. Regarding the food, we had tapas only. Ahi tuna tartar, beef empanada and an olive bread loaf. The Ahi tuna stack was wonderful, beef empanada was good and the bread was great. The tapas at cafe Sevilla are much more generous portions that at Viva Madrid. I know Tapas are just that, small portions, but Viva Madrid's are too small for my liking.
We really enjoyed Cafe Sevilla and will certainly go back.

Match BBQ and Grill (Pomona)
rgamo, well said about Match BBQ. I had been wanting to try Match fro quite some time since we're big fans of Top Chef and the local paper was advertising the Bryan from Top Chef was a part owner / Chef. Finally we made it to the restaurant.
First of all we drove right past it because you can't read the sign, it is to dark. We pulled our car in front of Match and saw no one inside, only a few employees which was not a good sign. There was however a Mercedes parked in front with the license plate that read "Mr. BBQ". I thought "this better be good"!
The place was very nice and clean inside although kind of uncomfortable because it was empty.
My wife ordered the BBQ chicken dinner and I had the Tri Tip dinner. While waiting for our dinner we talked to the waitress who explained that Chef Bryan is no longer there. Oh, great. They hire him to start the restaurant then let him go when they get his recipes.
Out comes the food.......chicken was very dry (my wife had one bite), the tri tip was tough, with no flavor execept for the sauce that was covering the tri tip which was a bad sgin to me. My mac and cheese was kind of white looking and was the worse I've ever had. Where's Kraft (in the box) when you need it!
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that my wife ordered a baked potato but the oven was broken (they told us this 30 minutes later) so they served her mashed potatos. They were from a box! Insulting!!
When we complained the manager didn't even come over and ask what the problem was. The restaurant was empty! They won't be in business long if they keep this up. Feeling extremely disappointed, we complained and left and headed to good ol' McDonalds. Yummy.....
Three Forks in Claremont?
I tried Three Forks a month or so ago with my fiance'. We showed up on a Saturday night and didn't have to wait. I was kind of surprised by it was nice to be seated immediately. The ambiance and decor was nice as well. The menu had a lot of different types of food, I had the Elk loin and my fiance' had a salmon dish. My Elk had great flavor but the salmon was subpar and had too much stuff stacked up on it. It was too busy for a flavorless fish dish. I thought the bold flavor of salmon would hold up but it was disapointing. Glad I had the Elk!! Overall we would go back and try soemthing else, but we live in Claremont. We both agreed that it wasn't worth the price though and we certainly wouldn't drive 50 miles for this meal. Cheers!
Hungry in Claremont
In response to Sonoitaliana, I live in Claremont and the food quailty at La Piccoletta has certainly changed in my opinion. I believe Linda is back doing private parties and personal catering in the area. I have been there a number of times in the last few years and it was best when Linda owned it. I think there have been 2 owners since her in the last couple of years. I have taken friends and family there and no one was impressed. It was just a pasta dish that we could make at home. The service was terrible in a place the size of my closet. I love the small intimate setting but the food recently has been a let down. Too bad for such a charming little place that used to be a treat to enjoy.
