Hard Hat Report Vol 8
The Hayashi Sushi & Grill (which closed on April 30th) in 1890 Ranch up in Cedar Park will become Takara Japanese soon.

Hayashi Sushi & Grill
1019 W University Ave, Georgetown, TX 78628
Georgetown
Hayashi in Wolfe Ranch is now closed. The only other location now is in Cedar Park.
The new Kim Son
They closed at the end of November. Not enough business, so they let their lease agreement fall out of contract. Kim Son is now being converted into a Wedding/Banquet hall.
New Japanese-Mexican Fusion Restaurant in Cedar Park
Drove by and this place is officially closed and is for lease. Hopefully something GOOD opens up in it's place.
Chirashi?
They have it at Hayashi. It's not on the menu, but you can ask for it. I also had another friend try Momiji and he said it was mediocre at best, so that's scaring me from trying it again. I think Osaka on Anderson Mill is worthy alternative to Momiji.
Chirashi?
It's also one of my favorite dishes. What makes a good bowl for me is good sushi rice and the selection of fish and freshness of the fish. I tried it a Momiji last Saturday and was not impressed with their Chirashi at all. The fish was not that fresh. Hayashi (183a / 1431) does a much better job, the fish is super fresh and it was overall tastier.
authentic chinese w/ banquet rooms in austin?
There was Tien Hong who had a banquet room but after 23 years, they closed earlier this month.
Sushi in North Austin & RR
Hayashi is now in Cedar Park with their second location. It's on 183A/1431 in the 1890 Ranch shopping center.
roll with me here: best egg roll in austin?
The cart is still there, but the recipe is different. The original owners (Long Beach Eggrolls) went out of business because of being involved in a burglary theft ring and accepting stolen items.
Vietnamese "Chao Long"
Tried it. Was actually not very good.... There was no blood, intestines, or tripe.
Vietnamese "Chao Long"
Anybody know where I can find Chao Long in Austin? Since the closure of Ba Le, I haven't found a Vietnamese restaurant that serves it.
For those that don't know it's a rice porridge with different innards and gelatinous blood. More info here: http://www.noodlepie.com/chao/index.html
[AUS] Good DimSum in Austin Area.
Kim Son - North Lamar / Braker
Chinatown - Farwest / Mopac
Shanghai - near highland mall
good views around lake travis & in austin?
The food has vastly improved after the fire. Everybody I've gone with said the food experience has been good after the reconstruction.
Raw Oysters in Austin- April 2008
Try Sam's Boat in North Austin. It's right off Mopac on Braker. From 3 to 7, oysters are $0.50 each. I've been going for the last two weeks.
New Place to Eat in North Austin-DiMassi's
I went last week during lunch and the food was very bland... even the desserts. They tasted all the same. I prefer the Alborz Persian lunch buffet compare to this place.
Crawfish boil at home - where to get 'em?
Lookup Crawfish on Craigslist.org for Austin. There's a restaurant selling it live for $3.50/lb.
Now Open - Sago (In the Triangle)
Modern Mexican to me is like Javier's in Dallas: http://www.javiers.net/ Look at the menu.
BBQ in NW Austin
Big Daddy's is gone, it was a taqueria for a while and now a tax preparation place.
The new Kim Son
When did you go? I find if you go at 11am service and food is the best. Anything after 1pm is a no go.
Good restaurants by Avery Ranch (far NW)?
Through Woody's Pizza and Wings next door they do. I also recommend Z-Tejas on Parmer and Avery Ranch. Bush's Chicken on 620 and Teji Indian food next to Round Rock High School on 620. I find it to be the most authentic for indian food in Austin. http://www.tejifoods.com/ And spicy is really spicy.
Amsterdam Cafe on 8th St.
I've been there twice. Never seen any food. It's mostly a bar like the Brown Bar, except they don't have service from Gumbo's next door.
Teppan-yaki?
Kobe Steakhouse: http://kobeaustin.com/
It used to be a Lone Star Cafe way back when.
Where is the best fried catfish within 25 miles of Austin?
They'd do it. But it would be a special order. Tien Hong on burnet will fry a whole fish and then put sweet and sour sauce all over it. It's on the menu for around $18.
Where is the best fried catfish within 25 miles of Austin?
Pacific Star on 183/AndersonMill does good fried catfish. All you can eat Thursday nights. Way better than Catfish Parlour in my opinion.
Vietnamese else where in NW Austin? SeaDragon II Closed
We (my co-workers) tried to go to Sea Dragon II this afternoon for Vietnamese and it's closed. What other spots are there in NW? I know there is Kim Phung nearby, but we think that place isn't that great.
