Morsels - Ruidoso, New Mexico
devestating . . . i think morsels closed! my husband and i are currently in ruidoso and were so excited to stop by and check it out. no sign, nothing in the restaurant and the phone just rings. being from california and coming here since forever, i thought FINALLY there were new restaurants opening that were a healthier alternative and kept with the trends. no luck though. . . guess we'll just keep waiting.
Help in Bakersfield
i grew up there . . . although, i rarely admit it. i also played soccer and spent many hours at the kern county soccer park. correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't you looking for carbs? try frugattis . . . cheap, easy, serves drinks and is pretty casual. where are you guys staying though? bakersfield is really spread out and if you're playing at the kern county soccer park, it's out in the middle of nowhere. . . and far away from everything else. i could probably give you more recommendations more local to your hotel knowing the area. wool growers is awesome and i always make a trip there when i head home, but may not please all the boys that didn't grow up with that style of food.
Tango In Escondido
I was just there this past weekend and had the tamale & short ribs as well! So, so good!!! Nice to hear that you enjoy it just as much! And I'm definitely jealous that you live in a walking distance! Did you see that they're expanding next door as well? If you visit again soon, we had a strawberry dessert that was served in an individual cast iron pan (for the life of me, I cannot remember the name), but was so good!
Tango In Escondido
The week before my birthday, my husband suggested the new restaurant Tango and I figured why not. He had casually mentioned that we were going to do a tasting menu and I didn’t think anything of it. As we arrived, I was pleasantly surprised at the space! The décor is warm and inviting, simple and tasteful.
We were immediately seated in the full restaurant. The manager approached us and asked if it would be interested in the Chef’s Tasting Menu. I was ecstatic and my husband just smiled . . . It seems that he had talked to the Chef earlier in the week and coordinated everything. As the plates began to arrive, I found myself sitting on the edge my chair anticipating every next course. Each course was perfectly plated and the service was absolutely impeccable. 11 courses and three hours later, I could not have been any closer to a food comma.
The most notable courses of the evening were the ravioli with carrot puree and short ribs, the venison duo with venison chop & venison meatloaf, the Humbolt Fog goat cheese soufflé and the chocolate tasting.
Prior to the presentation of the dessert, Chef Russell Hawkins came out to greet us. His passion for food carried through to his personality; Friendly, engaging and genuinely interested in our experience. Tango is gem. It could compete with the latest and greatest restaurants in Hillcrest, Bankers Hill or North Park, but instead it resides in Escondido, forever raising the bar for North County restaurants!
NC San Diego Rehearsal Dinner Locations?
Thanks for the recommendation. We did consider King's as well, primarily because of it's location. One of the top on the list is Stone Brew because of the outdoor gardens . . . but we just can't get over the food & service. We have been there multiple times and every experience is the same, bad food & bad service. I just keep hoping that one day it will change, thus, I continue to go back, but no luck yet.
The other restaurants we are also considering is Bistro West, Grigorios & Hacienda de Vega. Each have positive and negatives, just hoping to still find that perfect one.
NC San Diego Rehearsal Dinner Locations?
Looking for any good recommendations for rehearsal dinner locations for this upcoming summer. The wedding is going to be at The Crossings in Carlsbad (off of Palomar Airport), so it would be preferable if the restaurant is somewhere nearby.
Ideally, we would like to spend no more than $35/head and don't want to have it at any of the numerous surrounding resorts or chain restaurants. Being that this is a family affair and my parents are not "foodies", it would be best to avoid any Asian cuisine (boring, I know). Help . . .
