Oh Denver, we're hungry.
Mexican hasn't been covered yet!
My personal fave: Tacos Y Salsas.
http://www.westword.com/content/print...
Simply the best real-deal tacos, variety meats included, and they serve alcohol all the time (?). Cheap, cheap, cheap. On Federal Blvd, where many good ethic eats can be found.

Any rec's for Albuquerque and Santa Fe New Mexico??
Mary & Tito's. Fantastic red chile.
Cecilia's Cafe. Again, fantastic red (& carne adovada)
Golden Crown Panaderia (green chile cheese bread, pizzas)
Frontier Restaurant (ain't gonna get more "only in Albuquerque" than this.)

Dinner near ABQ airport?
Just WEST of the interstate on Central Ave is the best Naples style thin crust pizza this town has to offer: Farina Pizzeria.
Excellent salads, appetizers, and local beer/wine list, too.

A Boston hound's NM trip rollup: Sadie's, Flying Star, Café Pasqual's, Taco Cabana
I'm not even a big flour tortilla gal, but the ones at Duran's are delicious and addicting.

Chinese restaurants in Albuquerque?
China Best in Cedar Crest (har) is substandard by all counts. There's another in the same ownership/family in Edgewood that I hear is the same.
The only decent Chinese buffet I've had is . . . "anyplace, within 20 minutes of opening".

A Short Report on Albuquerque over T'giving
Thanks, Phil. The 'problem' with Standard Diner is that their food is in some weird nexus of good-interesting-tasty but not outstanding-outlandish-notable that I often overlook them in favor of other places.
Simply put, they are a great choice, for most eaters, at any time. Their beet appetizer rocks my world.

ALBQ Itinerary, opinions and recs please!!
Try NHB&G for cocktails only - their food has gone downhill since Ambrozia days.
Absolutely try to get to Sophia's for any meal. Ditto Jennifer James (though only dinner is served).
Slate Street is good, Frontier is a great breakfast spot with good people watching, La Provence is good for bistro fare.
Mexican..... hm, ok. You can get pretty good stuff at El Norteno, and AMAZING breakfasts at a crummy little diner (and I mean that in the nicest possible way) called La Nortenita - homemade corn tortillas and yummy huevoes mexicanos and menudo.
Mariscos La Playa is recommended for their shark tacos.
Other "must do"? Great sweets can be had at Chocolate Cafe in Nob Hill, and at any Flying Star, though they are not cheap. A big part of the not cheap reason is that they use great ingredients - imported butter, organic eggs, etc etc. The coffee there has gone way downhill and now "officially" sucks.
Good coffee can be had at Grove CAfe & Market, and at Michael Thomas Coffee. Good espresso can be had at the new Cafe Giuseppe's in Nob Hill, and at Ecco Gelato (but have the gelato at Giuseppes and NOT at Ecco - its too bland).
For decent food but a fabulous view try Sandiago's at the base of the tram. Don't blow any money on the restaurant on the top.
Hmm... I think I'm done for now.

The Archer Farms Brand at Target
I just had their banana peanut butter ice cream and it was pretty good, though the 'banana ice cream' base was not very banana-y.
:-)
They also have a salted chocolate pretzel flavor I'll try next.

If only one dinner in Santa Fe...
2nd the La Boca recommendation - probably some of the most interesting high end food in SF. I have heard good things about the new chef (that would be the former Geronimo chef Eric DiStefano) and his food at Coyote Cafe.

Dinner in ABQ
Coming from the Bay Area, steer clear of our sushi. :-) Its fine, but nothing like you've got. Ditto for Chinese.
For New Mexican: Frontier, Mary & Tito's on 4th & Menaul (best red in the county), Perea's on east Central, and yes Barela's is great.
For "local" treats: Rt 66 Malt Shop at 17th & Central (NOT the 66 Diner, which is as kitschy as the malt shop is just plain delicious), Frontier (great people-watching), and a view you can't get in San Fran can be had at Sandiago's at the bottom of the Tram. Food is pretty good, but seeing the city lights as evening falls is fantastic from the patio with a margarita in hand.
Links for all are below! (neat feature)

Dinner in ABQ
The Grove is a fancier breakfast/lunch spot. Don't get me wrong, the coffee is outstanding, BUT this ain't "Albuquerque food".
Menudo is an acquired taste, unless the stuff you had was truly badly prepared, and its Mexican in origin where posole is more New Mexican, if I get my history correct. I'll reply with more options to the original post...

Albuquerque--ideas for Thanksgiving?
Definitely depends on what cuisine you'd like. That being said, several local rags will have pre-Thanksgiving guides to steer you towards themed meals on that day.
If she's doing dinner that day, I'd recommend whatever Jennifer James 101 is having, but it won't be cheap. :-)

If only one dinner in Santa Fe...
For a two-fisted burger on an english muffin with killer sweet relish, buffalo nachos, amazing fried chicken, excellent cocktails, and a laid-back atmosphere with skill in the kitchen, I highly recommend The Dragon Room, the more casual half of the Pink Adobe.

West Bend, Horicon wi. area restaurants
Wow, I was searching in vain for anything to mention Mayville or Horicon, and this single post was what I found. Eek.
Ok, for Horicon I don't have a ready suggestion, but in Mayville there is an Irish cafe that has been in business for 3 years and somehow they're just hanging in there, despite having 1) great food, 2) good prices, and 3) no one in town that seems to want to eat there.
I mean a great meal of lamb stew with homemade beer bread is $8 - more than you'll pay for a fast food meal, and that seems to be a huge problem in this town of 4500. The owner is a wonderful lady and everytime I visit I try to eat there at least once to make sure she is still around.
Check them out and enjoy the experience!

550 from Durango to Albuquerque
The new spot for El Bruno's is recently expanded, still wonderful, and worth a stop. Heck, it's worth a trip from Albuquerque and/or Farmington!
Fantastic red - last time I had carne adovada and it was delicious. Good guac, excellent fresh chips, etc etc.... :-)

Don't forget a trip for the best freakin' espresso you'll have in awhile: Aviano Coffee (just south of Colfax but not sure the neighborhood name).

I'm new. (Living in Albuquerque)
Any of ya'll been to Chopstix? One of the better Chinese experiences I've had here in ABQ. They have a wall of printed specialties not listed on the menu that are more authentic rather than Americanized dishes. The broccoli/garlic is awesome, bitter melon lovely, chicken in red wine very tasty.... I could go on. :-)
But then again, I did:

Albuquerque--Ambrosia or Graze?
Jennifer James 101 is open (since April) on Menaul near Washington.
Its back to the old style of Restaurant Jennifer James, with more experience and even more local products and twists. I've been just a few times, and hope to get there several more before they are completely overrun with popularity (my wish!).
Here are a few summaries, so far:

A New Healthy Chip Concept
Ew on the salad dressing. For the same price, pick up a jar of twice the size of SALSA - any variety, from hot to sweet, and you're good to go.
Add some cheap balsamic to it for extra sugar, and some soy for extra salt (salsas are not salty since the chips normally are...). Done.

Chinese restaurants in Albuquerque?
Is that Lin's on the Westside? That place opened at the end of February, and I'm curious to hear if anyone has been...
On the other hand, Chopstix at San Pedro & Candelaria is EXCELLENT (for Albuquerque), and actually serves non-touristy dishes, like bitter melon, cold chicken in red wine, various nether chicken parts, etc... Here's a glimpse at them: http://www.nmgastronome.com/abq/chine...

Epic journey finds me here until 4/23
Yep, I'm all done now. Did have portugese breakfast at The Neighborhood - very VERY cool experience, with great linguica and cream of wheat that will stop any kid's heart - that stuff is loaded with butter and sugar!
Had Christina's kulfi ice cream - pretty good but I'm approaching ice cream burnout now. All ice cream tastes "pretty good" to me.
Did not do Speed's, and skipped my Helmand's reservation because I reallly just wasn't in the mood. Personally I'm feeling a bit like a linguica today, so my chowhounding is cut short for this trip.
Thank you for all the info and advice - the lobster roll was definitely one of the highlights. :-)

Yep, got it. So we did Neptune, a total of 12 different oysters (in one fell swoop about tripling the number of varieties I've ever had!), 2 clams, 1/3 a hot lobster roll and part of octopus salad. Wowee wow. Luckily (mostly due to the partial lobstah roll) that didn't stuff us completely so we missed Modern Bakery and hit Mike's instead.
Still, the tiramisu was intoxicating with some cappucino from next door, and haven't even dug into the cannoli yet. I held back from getting a whoopie pie, as well (even though I haven't yet had one)
Tomorrow (possible itinerary):
The Neighborhood brekkie
Speed's lunch
Christina's somewhere in between
Helmond's dinner (?)
Yikes, full day!

Well, see... now I've gotten myself talked into a lobster roll AND oysters, so its Neptune I think.... or B & G? Thoughts on that dilemma? Choices, choices....
Why do I need a car? Neptune is a hop across the freeway from the Haymarket T stop - right?

Thank you for all of the suggestions thus far, and here's what I've had:
Tried Helmand's on Saturday, but even my lone butt couldn't score a seat when I showed up without a reservation. So, I was hungry and at Thai next door, which was Good, but.... I can get good Thai at home. Opportunity wasted, bummer.
I did have the brunch at Henrietta's - it was fabulous until I got the bill, then it was just very good. Yowch. Shoulda eaten more oysters. :-)
I've had Herrell's, Toscanini, and JP Licks so far - all were good, the hot fudge at Herrell's was bliss-inducing. Unable to eat enough sugar, I headed to Burlick's for hot chocolate and a few macarons - very nice, although I also can get killer and interesting hot chocolate at Kakawa in Santa Fe.
Let's see.... what else so far? I am headed to either the Oak Room OR Locke-Ober tonight - which one is better? That will probably be coupled with drinks & oysters somewhere in the vicinity, and my Cambridge friend says we have to go to the top of Prudential building for one reason or another.
Still need to have:
Lobster Roll
Speed Dog
Maybe Italian? Yeah, NM Italian is weak, and southern Italian barely exists at all - so can I go somewhere to get things like grilled sardines and chicken livers with raisins and vinegar, that kind of thing?
Thank you!
(Oh, and I know about the weekend's events - that's why I'm here!)

So after my first red-eye and lots of shuttles and subways and 11 hours, I'm here in Boston through Tuesday night (which I think I've already designated "oyster binge night").
What can I ABSOLUTELY NOT MISS, the true Boston experience, the food I simply cannot get in the Southwest (ABQ to be specific). So let's skip the Mexican, the Thai, the Vietnamese... how about some New England... some... weird ethnic that I don't have at home... anything!
:-)
I'm headed to Toscanini's after a nap, so that's done.

1 Red, 1 White, accessible yet stunning
A follow-up, even if belated....
Note that the venture capitalists want to spend their money on the companies, not necessarily the catering bill! That being said, my final bill for all the libations ended up being over $800, so it definitely added up.
I visited a local winebar that I trust and asked them. These are the recommendations they gave and I gladly accepted, even if it stretched the budget just a hair.
White: Casa Silva Sauvignon Gris 2005. Here's an online review:
