grundoon's Profile

Nashville in June

Fleet Street Pub in Printer's Alley is relatively new and very good for food & drink, not sure on the music front though. However, Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie Bar is close by for music needs...

Utah - looking for AWESOME breakfast

Over the Counter is at 2343 East 3300 South and is WELL worth seeking out - great food & atmosphere...

Ethiopian in Nashville

Agree on Gojo. Excellent lunch buffet!

Nashville - end of March

I don't buy that knock on Swett's either. It's certainly not been my experience with them (at least at the main or farmer's market locations - can't speak to the airport outlet).

Also, if you're looking for BBQ near the Opry, Jack's on West Trinity is probably your closest good option.

One dinner in Nashville: Best BBQ?

I would definitely choose Martin's over any of the others you have listed..

Recs for a Nashville dinner and breakfast

It would be really helpful in responding to this to know what day of the week this request is for.

1 night in Nashville

Stockyard was overrated back in it's heyday. Hasn't been on the serious restaurant map in Nashville for 20 years. And the Big Bang Piano Bar just sucks. Neither is a place for serious foodies...

Nashville - end of March

You might want to run by Henpeck Market when you're down toward Franklin on Monday...

Nashville - end of March

Have to disagree on Stockyard, Big Bang & Pearl Sushi. Neely's is good, but have my doubts about these other rec's...

Hash browns in Nashville

Agree on Pancake Pantry. The hash browns are their single best food item. However, they are not the shredded style.

Big Trip - Chicago to Knoxville to Nashville to Lansing

While in the Nashville area, make your way out to Nolensville to visit Martin's for BBQ. What you want is listed as a "Redneck Taco" on the menu. Basically pulled pork BBQ and slaw on top of a large hoecake. Actually, most everything on the menu is good, but the RT is special!

Nashville trip report - long

"Scarily Empty" was apparently an apt phrase, as Ombi closed in early June.

Nashville - 4 July weekend - food, music and fireworks ?

Good to hear...

Nashville Diner/Restaurant near Vanderbilt

Love Arnolds. But it's weekday lunch only...

Nashville - 4 July weekend - food, music and fireworks ?

Heard some rumors lately that the Beacon Light has been slipping. Not been in a while, but word to the wise...

Birmingham Southern University's List of Essential Southern Barbecue

I'd give them a C+...

Food on the Bourbon Trail

I highly recommend the Beaumont Inn in Harrodsburg, KY. Some of the best country ham and fried chicken I've ever had and in a beatiful setting.

Food near Gaylord Opryland?

Missy -- You should definitely rent a car as there is little of note in the immediate vicinity of the Hotel...

Looking for best, reasonably priced Steak in Nashville, Tn

I've never had good luck with the steak at Demos. It would be helpful, though, to know what you would consider to be a "reasonable" price range in order to give a recommendation...

One Night in Nashville - what is GREAT

Sounds like a good candidate for Swetts...

Demo's in downtown Nashville?....

Since you'll be in town on a weekday, you may want to consider taking your 12YO to the downtown arcade for lunch one day. Best place is probably House of Pizza (assuming you are not from Chicago, NYC, or New Haven, CT), though there are others. The Arcade opened in 1903 and was Nashville's first mall. Located between Fourth & Fifth Avenue North, it was modeled after the Centennial Arcade in Milan, Italy. Lots of interesting places to check out including the Peanut Shop, an old-fashioned candy & nut shop, worth it if only for the smell of hot roasted nuts...

Experience at Watermark - Nashville (long)

My experiences with Watermark have been in line with jamiecarroll's, but it has been several months since I have been. Additionally, we have always sat in the smaller upstairs room rather than the main dining room. Much quieter and more intimate.

Nashville to Memphis: where to stop

Ridgewood BBQ in Bluff City, TN (near Elizabethton) is DEFINITELY worth the trip. Otherwise, I would say Litton's in Knoxville.

Eats between Nashville TN and Sewanee TN

Yep, Front Porch is quite good and fluffernutter's description is spot on.

Nashville to Memphis: where to stop

Depending on what day you are traveling and how close you need to stay to the interstate, some options you might want to investigate are:

Beacon Light Tea Room in Lyles/Bon Aqua
Great fried chicken, country ham & biscuits. Only open for dinner during the week, but has lunch on the weekend. I consider the food here to be far superior to Loveless, with much less acclaim.

Carl's Perfect Pig BBQ in White Bluff
My favorite ribs in the general Nashville area.

Log Cabin Restaurant in Hurricane Mills
Holly Moore gave this place a good review though I've not been personally.

B E Scott's BBQ in Lexington, TN
Superior whole hog BBQ, worth the side trip. Specify what part of the hog you want meat from (I usually get middlin' or shoulder) for the best results.

BoothBay Harbor Maine

We were there (group of 7) at prime time on a crowded Friday night. They were slammed and their timing probably suffered as a result. That's how we knew about the tuna (one person at our table got it and it looked really good). We came back late on Saturday night (having had lobster mid-afternoon) and got the tuna and a bowl of chowder to end the day. It was perfect...

Eats between Nashville TN and Sewanee TN

I would recommend lunch in Murfreesboro at either Slick Pig BBQ or the Kleer-Vue lunchroom. If you do Slick Pig, be sure to go to the original location on Main Street rather than the one close by the interstate. And get some smoked chicken wings -- they are excellent. Kleer-Vue is a great cafeteria-style meat & 3. Their hot water cornbread is the best I've ever eaten and any meat served "smothered" (with gravy) is always good. Enjoy!

BoothBay Harbor Maine

Glad that you had a better experience. My roll had been toasted but then allowed to cool before it got to the table. That coupled with lobster that seemed less-than-fresh led to my disappointment. Fortunately, I had an excellent lobster roll (lack of split-top bun notwithstanding) at Waterman's Beach a few days later to make up for it.

New to Nashville...ethnic? off the beaten path?

Great list, but El Inca recently closed.

BoothBay Harbor Maine

Actually, I was somewhat underwhelmed by the lobsterman's wharf in East Boothbay (which I understand recently underwent a change in management). They make a fine tuna salad sandwich, but their lobster roll was the biggest disappointment of our trip.
