Any word on Masak?
Went for dinner with a friend, really enjoyed the cocktails but wasn't really wowed by the food. It's vaguely Singaporean/Malay influenced, with some tasty bites but nothing I'd return for.
Vegetarian-friendly Restaurant Week Options?
I'm curious--what vegetarian dishes did you eat at 10 Downing? Their menu seems to be pretty meat-heavy.

anson mills grits
I believe I've gotten Anson Mills grits from Stinky Brooklyn in Carroll Gardens.
Xi'an Famous Foods adding second Manhattan outlet?
Sunrise Mart wasn't on St. Marks and First, it was on Stuyvesant near 3rd ave.
The former Seoul Station (and before that Temple Korean) at St. Marks & FIrst is an open space--any chance it's going in there?

Wineberry Box Wine
Looks like they have the Moulin de Roquille box at Astor, though I'm not sure about the others.
BPA in cans
I've been told by a contact at one of my favorite breweries that their cans are 1/1000th of FDA threshold—I do not believe the level of BPA in beer cans is as high as in the cans that hold tomatoes or other acidic foods.
ISO Indian Restaurant like Saravanaas, but on EV's Curry Row (6th St)
Your meals on 6th st have been disappointing because the restaurants on 6th st tend to make disappointing food. Our standby in that area for bargain-basement indian is Royal India / Royal Bangladesh, though we usually spend a few more dollars and go to Banjara, which I believe has only gotten better in recent years.
What to pair with Belgian Trippel?
For my beer column over at Serious Eats, we did a series of Thanksgiving pairings. We really liked the tripel we tried (from Flying Dog) with sage and mushroom stuffing. Very nice with the herbal flavors of the food.
DBGB tonight--recommendations?
Agreed, we enjoyed our sausages and burgers (the Frenchie) more than the fancier mains.
Good grocery store or butcher for duck?
Dickson's Farmstand Meats in Chelsea market had ducks the last time I went, you should probably talk to them and reserve. http://dicksonsfarmstand.com/
Need Restaurant for tonight- Red Sauce Italian, Dressy
You might try Locanda Verde. Not "red sauce italian" but great fresh pasta.
With Gourmet discontinued by Conde Nast, what's your favorite cooking mag?
It's a huge loss.
Other favorites: for articles, Saveur. For recipes, Food and Wine.
favorite Pumpkin beer
and another question. What do you like to eat with pumpkin beer? Is there a perfect food pairing?
favorite Pumpkin beer
Has anyone seen the Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale in NYC? When I went yesterday, neither New Beer Distributors nor Whole Foods Bowery had it...
mid-price good-quality downtown cheese shops
East Village Cheese is probably the astor place shop you're referring to. Probably the best deals...
Porchetta in E. Village
Has anyone ordered delivery from Porchetta? Did it come promptly? Or is it better to get takeout?
Toss-up: The Stanton Social vs Degustation
Stanton Social might be more "fun", which can also mean loud, and more festive. The food is ok, with a few good dishes and some things that aren't all that great.
Degustation is a little more "serious" in vibe, I like the food better, but I wouldn't go there to catch up with a friend.
Best Fresh ricotta in nyc?
probably not quite as good as the other places, but the ricotta at East Village Cheese is actually quite delicious.
New Job in Flatiron, need lunch and coffee suggestions
I find the options in the area get old, so it's great that you're getting this list.
Other choices:
Home's Kitchen does decent noodle soups
Spoon on 20th does ok soups, sometimes great "side" salads, and good desserts
Num Pang is kind of a walk south, but worth it.
Great Burrito for tacos (beware: a little divey)
We sometimes go to Pongsri for Thai
Bonobo for salads (I like the sweet basil dressing)
Best Espresso drinks in Manhattan...so far
I've had some unimpressive drinks at Taralucci E Vino, but love Abraco and Everyman.
How about Cafe Pedlar on Clinton St? I haven't been yet, but also serving stumptown, I believe.
What do you love at Esca (din tomorrow for 5)?
second the spaghetti with sea urchin.
source for chocolate wafer cookies (preferably Union Sq / EV)
Kind of a silly request, but I need them for a recipe...chocolate cookies, like 'Nilla wafers. Couldn't find them at Whole Foods, Met, or St. Marks Market.
Have you seen them at Food Emporium? Key Foods? Associated? Would prefer to make only one more trip.
Degustation: Review + Photos
Sorry you didn't have a fantastic meal. Did you happen to notice what was on the regular a la carte menu? I'm wondering if it's quite different from the choices last year. Haven't been since then.
Anyone eaten at DBGB yet?
Went last night with two friends. Felt it was a bit overpriced, but there were some definite winners. Must note that our waitress was SUPER sweet and helpful. As for specific dishes:
Asparagus and Fried egg: nothing special, though the duck proscuitto was pretty delicious.
Fromage de Tete: good, though not mind blowing. We asked for additional bread, which was great (the waitress said they make all the bread at Daniel.)
Toulouse sausage: full of flavor, fresh tasting. Truly enjoyable and worth ordering again. Nice beans served with it, though they weren't quite as creamy as I expected.
Bone Marrow: very nice, though not mind blowing.
Pied de Cochon: pretty fabulous, very rich.
All went very well with the very interesting beer, which was pretty reasonably priced by the liter.
Did not love the Cassis Beer-Yogurt sundae.
Best Lemon Bars NYC??
There has got to be a better lemon bar than Starbucks.
How about Spoon? I bet they'd make a bunch for you if you called ahead. http://www.spoonnyc.com/
Garlic scapes, what prep besides pesto?
Love them on the grill. Cut off the lower few inches, then throw on whole, including bulb/tips. They end up sweet and garlickly almost like a cross between roasted garlic and green beans. It's ok if they get charred in spots.
Quick! Good NY-Style SLICE of pizza in the E-Village?
Stromboli on St. Marks and 1st (corner) is our standard slice.
OK, Manhattan hounds, i *really* need your help!
Pylos is ok to good, but not mindblowing.
I'd go with Scarpetta, or Convivio if it's open.
Is Union Square Cafe still good?
I agree...not cutting edge, but what I've had was good and classic. GREAT burger at lunchtime...
