Tipatina's Profile
food recommendations for Searsport, ME
I've heard on great authority that the Angler's Restaurant (next to the Bait's Motel!) is terrific. A friend just had a sensational lobster salad there. Very local, very fresh stuff.
Consolidated list of best local eats in Maine (lobster, lobster rolls, clams, pies, ice cream)
We actually each had the haddock sandwich (comes with chips and delicious homemade cole slaw and the aforementioned choice of tartar sauce or lemon aioli). These were so good that I started trolling other picnic tables to see what they were eating. The lobster roll looked spectacular as did the steamers. My guess is that everything is just dandy. They also sell fresh fish.
The tables are right by the parking area and driveway, BUT turn your head and look at the Bay of Fundy.

When in Eastport, the Quoddy Bay Lobster Pound serves AMAZING everything from a tiny kitchen for takeout or to enjoy at picnic tables. The Lobster Rolls were astonishing. I'm a big fan of Haddock Sandwiches and theirs is pan-seared with a choice of homemade tartar sauce or lemon aioli! It's worth the schlep from Down East.
Native Maine Shrimp season is here! (ME and NH)
If it's the same person, 'Dave' has moved down the road a few miles, towards Yarmouth - Cindy's Lobster Roll or something like that. Anyway, he has 'Fresh Shrimp' signs on the road (Rte. 1). Five pounds of whole shrimp for $5. Great swordfish, scallops, haddock, salmon, steamers, etc. Nice guy.
Royal River Grillhouse, not so royal
I do agree. We actually had our last meal there a year ago - and I do mean our last. Sorry to hear it hasn't improved. Such a nice location. Wonder if Falmouth Sea Grill is still good.
Downeast Maine - What's still open after Columbus Day?
Chase's is definitely open. The Gerrish Store (across from 5 & 10) will is going to stay open. That's more freshly baked goods, high end soup and sandwiches.
Martha's Diner in Ellsworth (in Reny's/Shaw's strip mall) is great for breakfast and for lunch, when they have them, the best crab roll (in my humble......) on earth.
Chester Pike's should still be open mid-October, as far as I remember. Will ask next time I'm in and repost if you haven't heard from Pass.
River Cafe in Ellsworth does amazing haddock sandwiches. Everything there is good.
If you're in to cooking at home, Tibbett's Seafood is on the road out to Petit Manan- coming from Rte 1, it's before you get to Country Charm.
If you go to Campobello, ask if Family Fisheries is still open. Great (at least was great) seafood shack.
If you forget your passports, you can still get in with photo ID, but you have to go into the Customs Office and hassle.
Recently in Lubec and had lunch at, I think, Captain Kitty's - can that be correct. ANyway, it's on the way into town on the right. Here's the thing -- drive right on by. Very strange and well, if I tell you that canned clam chowder was one of the specials..............

Acadia and Downeast Maine in September
Thoughts on Schoodic/Downeast:
Chester Pike's for sure, but they only do breakfast and lunch. Closed Mondays.
Haven't been to Tall Barney's in awhile, but they certainly used to have great haddock burgers and fried clams. It is, though, in Jonesport which is way up the coast from Schoodic.
Also haven't been to Country Charm in awhile, but it's just one of those great places that wouldn't dare change.
Tandoor Downeast is takeout only, I believe.
Wildflour Bakery, I think, is only open a few hours on the weekend.
Fisherman's Wharf is the only place left for dinner in Winter Harbor. Could use some competition, if you catch my drift.
I'd suggest to do your splurging in Bar Harbor, then go the lobster roll, etc. route over here
Moon Pies needed for K'Port Wedding

Down East Maine recs needed (Machias/Jonesport/Milbridge)
You can get take out at The Galley at the Bridge - on the east side of the bridge in Sullivan - the turnoff to Tidal Falls in on the west side of the bridge. ANYWAY, 5 minutes from Tidal Falls. They will pack up a lobster dinner and it'll still be hot when you get to TF. Huge Lobster Roll (with too much bread, but still) and all the usual fare.

Who makes the best pizza in New England?
Finelli's calls itself "New York Pizza". I lived in NYC for years and ate alot of pizza and never had anything as good as Finelli's.
New Inexpensive Downeast Lobster Rec, Tracey's Sullivan, Me.
Great to know! We picked up some lobster dinners from the Galley at the Bridge to take to (sob) Tidal Falls. Think a 1# dinner with fries and cole slaw was $12.99. So they'd get a little cooled if you were schlepping from Tracey's to TF, but...........
The Galley, though, did a great job, especially since it was an order for 10 involving many different items.
Best crab roll in New England?
I keep dreaming that someone will come along and figure out how to serve food at Tidal Falls. Such a blow! AND was hoping that take out from the Galley would be the answer. They seemed so eager.
Best crab roll in New England?
Had an AMAZING crab roll at Martha's Diner in the Reny's/Shaw's shopping 'mall' in Ellsworth. Huge and the best crabmeat I've ever tasted. Ever.
Acadia NP Schoodic Peninsula
So, I did get a bit of information, but haven't been able to verify.
1. The bus normally goes to Schoodic first then loops back through town (where the food is). I was told that if you ask the bus driver, he will take you to town first. There you could have lunch at Gerrish (where I just had a chilled pea soup with a spoon of crab salad in the middle swirled with basil oil) and then reboard the bus about 45 minutes later when it swings back by. You could spend any extra time browsing at the 5 & 10 from whence I got this info!
2. Also suggested that you could call ahead and order, say from The Harbor Girl (963-5900) which is at the entrance to Schoodic - subs, box lunches, etc. - and the bus would pull over and let you run in to get your stuff.
AGAIN, this is based on a well-informed source, but........
I will say that the bus is really under utilized except during festivals and the driver seems very sweet and accommodating. Maybe the ferry company could give more info. At any rate, have a wonderful time. Schoodic is quiet and beautiful.
Acadia NP Schoodic Peninsula
The bus does take you right to the Gerrish Store - though, in truth, I'm not sure if that is before or after going around the park loop. Will check when I go for the paper and get back to you. A picnic on the rocks in the Park is always grand, though.

If, by chance, you're on Vinalhaven, The Harbor Gawker has a beauty.
Italian near the Theatre District
Looking for a good, not too expensive, not touristy Italian restaurant relatively near the Theatre District for birthday dinner for two. Thanks for any suggestions.

Mexican Food Heaven
I do like a post that goes on and on. Didn't wade through it all to see if anyone had mentioned El Camino Cantina in Brunswick.
Traveling through Downeast
Though not too far out of Ellworth, Chester Pike's Galley in Sullivan is dandy. Check to see if they'll be open by Memorial Day. Also, when in Lubec, if you venture over to Campobello, Family Fisheries can be really, really good.
