Affordable Restaurants [Lower Westchester]

OK, Pleasantville isn't quite lower Westchester, but the Riviera restaurant on Tompkins Ave. delivers good food at good prices. I'm a believer.

Cioppino [Westchester]

Had a very tasty cioppino in Anchorage, Alaska. Have a yen to try it again, closer to home. Any Westchester restaurants with this seafood stew on the menu? Even willing to cross the Hudson if necessary.

Berkshires- Lenox Lee Seafood question

Haven't lived up here for a few years, but "Darryl's, the other brother" on route 8 in Otis was our fish store of choice. They supply fish to many restaurants in the Berkshires.

Recommendations For Casual Seafood Dining Near Boston

Fresh Catch in nearby Mansfield has very good seafood and often lobster specials. Indoors and not on the ocean, but informal and comfortable.

Which is the best vanilla ice cream?

For what it's worth, Consumer Reports rated B&J vanilla slightly higher than Haagen Daz. Blue Bell was further down on the list. Also, you might consider Giffords from Maine, but sold in select stores in the NY area. Their website mentions only milk and sugar and flavorings.

Buffet Type Brunch Lower Westchester

Sunset Cove in Tarrytown has a buffet brunch with carving station and other stations. Good bridge view, too.

Long Gone But Not Forgotten! Manhattan Memories

I remember the Four Seasons. No, not that one. This one was on 34th St. near 3rd Ave. and in the late '50's served a complete dinner for $2.50, plus you got to listen to the proprietor telling phone callers that this wasn't the Four Seasons that took reservations.

Tri Tip in Westchester County

Tri-tip roast is from the bottom sirloin. Culotte comes from the nearby top sirloin. Silver tip roasts are from the shoulder, the other end of the cow, are a mainstay at kosher butchers, where the sirloin is verboten.

Looking for a really excellent Caterer in Westchester for Bday dinner

I have used Silver Spoon Caterers for a similar celebration and was very satisfied with the food and service.

North Country Red Hots/Michigans [Clinton County]

MisterBill is right, but there is an easy explanation. Candy doesn't want to reveal all the secret places for fear they will become overrun by downstaters.

Does Heineken qualify as 'Green Beer' for St. Paddy's Day?

I recall one St. Paddy's weekend many years ago when I was watching "The Quiet Man" on the telly. I decided I had to have green beer to complete the occasion, so I added some green food coloring to a glass of beer. I don't know the chemistry involved but I quickly had a pile of green foam on the counter and a glass of flat green beverage.

reuben [westchester]

Squire's in Briarcliff, the classy-hamburger place, happens to make a very satisfying Reuben sandwich (with real Swiss cheese!) I am in a men's lunch group which eats there monthly and almost as many Reubens as hamburgers are ordered. Tough choice.

New York-Boston...where else??

Wonderful food and rooms in the Berkshires with a wide array of sightseeing opportunities: The Old Inn on the Green in New Marlborough, MA.

restaurant suggestions for my Club meetings ? [mid-Westchester]

TGIF on rte 119 in Tarrytown has a space on the side that might work out (and a good-sized parking lot.) I've been there with a group of 15 and separate checks were not a problem.

Flames Bar and Grill, Briarcliff Manor

Noticed today that the sign outside Flames Steakhouse in Briarcliff Manor now says Flames Bar and Grill. Couldn't find anything on the internet about a new menu or ownership. Has anyone been since the name change or can anyone shed light on the change?

Potato Pancakes in Lower Westchester

It isn't Southern Westchester, and they closed 30 years ago, but the best potato pancakes I ever had were at a German Deli in Ossining! Delicious.

Discussion screen

The Discussion screen that appears when the board first comes on goes blank shortly after it appears. Same with the list of "all boards". These quirks have been present for several days. Is it my browser or the program?

Hudson NY September 2013

Interesting article in New York Times recently on NYC chefs moving to Hudson Valley restaurants. Mentions both Crimson Sparrow and Fish and Game.

westchester county or environs last hurrah before school/work

The restaurants at the Culinary Institute are lovely, or you could try the Basement Bistro in Earlton. Nearby, Xaviers in Piermont, Hudson's in Nyack, and The Arch in Brewster come to mind. Enjoy yourselves.

Roasting turkey in a dutch oven like you would a beef roast.

One Thanksgiving I braised one turkey and oven-roasted another. The braised bird was tastier. I used a pile of aromatic veggies which helped flavor it. The gravy was terrific--it made a great soup the next day. Here's a blog from the New York Times.

Here's a toughie [Yorktown Heights]

Zeph's in Peekskill is not far from Yorktown and is certainly a special little restaurant. A very classy evening.

Looking for a great restaurant with private space for 20-35 people - sophisticated but not stuffy

My children recently gave me a birthday party at Sam's of Gedney Way in White Plains. We had an alcove off the main dining room, and our group included 4 kids of 12 and under who enjoyed the semi-public setting. The food was very tasty and in very ample quantities--a very pleasant evening.

Last Restaurant Before First Baby

Sounds like it's an occasion for the Kittle House in Mount Kisco, a perfect setting for a delightful meal to celebrate entering parenthood.

Destination Brunch Spot in Westchester...drive from Manhattan

What about Half Moon in Dobbs Ferry. Another great view.
