Gino's Tratoria in Mahopac. He'll set up the back room for you. The food is quite good, including the excellent pizzas (try the zucchini pizza - excellent).

Two words - fish tacos. Wonderful place.

THE NEGRONI

At least 8.......but who's counting.......

THE NEGRONI

My recommendation: after many ( yes, many) samples of every variation I could reasonably come up with, what works best to my taste is the classic proportion -- 1:1:1 -- using Plymouth gin and Carpano Antico Formula sweet vermouth. I do not shake, but stir. Shaking actually changed the flavor, and not in a favorable way. Muddle an orange slice in the bottom of a glass, and pour over rocks. My very favorite cocktail. And try the Carpano over ice - a fantastic depth of favors. Worth the extra money.

Thanks to all.

Dinner for 1 near Paddington Station

Probably good advice. So, if I can it somewhere local, what would you suggest?

Thanks. I did see that thread, but was hoping for something a bit more upscale, since I only have to feed 1!

Dinner for 1 near Paddington Station

Looking for anything of high quality and interest walking distance from the Hilton at Paddington Station. Something comfortable for a solo diner this Friday night, before heading home to the States first thing Sturday morning.

carpe diem - new canaan

Agree w/LW1. A very nice addition to NC, and reasonably priced (for the market), to boot. Crispy artichoke was very good (although I give the nod to the one at Cava, but talking by degree). My wife started with the Insalata Carciofi, which I enjoyed more than she - thought it was too fibrous. Dressing was light and well executed. The Pappardelle Bolognese I had was as good as I've had. Homemade pasta was excellent; sauce had a wonderful depth of flavor, and the tomatoes added just the right touch of brightness. The Capesante grilled scallops were perfectly seasoned and prepared, and the endive salad was a capable accompaniment. A very nice panna cotta to finish. Wine list is ok - not much to get excited about. Reasonably priced, but mark-ups were fully calculated. The owner (I presume he was) was attentive, and offered us after dinner drinks. Enjoyed it enough to go back again tonight.

Heading over tonight. Will report in.

Love this place [Farmer's Table]

Completely agree. Underwhelming.

Need casual catering near new canaan.

A place I've used repeatedly for this type of catering is Gino's in Mahopac (don't let the location deter you - they are happy to come down, and the prices reflect an alternative universe to the one in which we live in NC). Ask for Marco - one of the two brothers who own the place, and runs the catering). The food has never disappointed. http://ginostrattoria.com/catering/

Rehearsal Dinner site in New Canaan/Norwalk area

Depending on the time of year, the lack of air conditioning may be an issue. Also, a bit long in the tooth.

Thanksgiving dinner in the Utica, NY area?

I would be interested in learning of a place, too, in the Utilca area.

Coromandel or Tawa

The two Coromandel locations are not comparable. And I agree - the food at Tawa's old location was better, and I liked the whole feel better (and the easy parking). Since they moved downtown, I tend to favor the drive to Darien, for the better food and convenience.

Farmer's Table New Canaan, CT?

Comparable. My experience is, the BYO places charge a bit more for the food than what you'd like, but if you're a drinker, the scale tips way in your favor. I find the room much nicer at Basso, with a broader and more interesting menu.

Farmer's Table New Canaan, CT?

Completely agree. Took my daughter and was completely underwhelmed for similar reasons. NR and Basso far more dependable.

Coromandel or Tawa

Tawa in Stamford, but I prefer Coromandel in Darien. Both will provide exceptionally good Indian food. Parking is much easier in Darien, if that's a consideration.

Suggestions for Lunch in Tarrytown?

If you like the idea of Greek food, I'd recommend going to Santorini in Sleepy Hollow. IMO, better than Lefteris. Was there Friday night, and everything was excellent. Fresh, and reasonably priced. http://santorinigreekrestaurant.com/

Dinner in Utica/Clinton/Oneida area
