South Lake Tahoe dining with kids

We are heading from SF to South Lake Tahoe for Columbus Day weekend and I would love to hear your recommendations for kid friendly (4 1/2 and 7) lunch and dinner places. NO chains and casinos please and ideally local, farm to table, or otherwise authentic food. Also, any lunch hot spots on the way there? Thank you so much!

Where to buy glucose and glycerin for making fondant in San Francisco?

I am looking for a baking supply store that sells glucose and glycerin to make cooked or rolled-out fondant for my son's birthday cake. Thanks so much!!

Dinner ideas with kids (3, 5) for Mother's Day?

I am hoping that most people will go out for brunch or lunch on Sunday (I might be dreaming) instead of dinner and am drawing a total blank on restaurants to take 4 adults and 2 kids (3, 5 1/2) for Mother's Day dinner. We live by Alamo Square and take our kids to Delfina, Nopalito, etc. all the time, but I was hoping to do something different that's "nice enough" to qualify for a somewhat special occasion with the same high standards of quality and service, but also suitable for kids. Any thoughts??? Thanks so much!

Vietnamese in SF?

I have been craving Vietnamese food and was wondering if anybody had any recommendations aside from OTD and Slanted Door. Ideally, not "just" a Pho place, but one with a comprehensive menu. Thanks so much!

Midweek dinner in downtown Santa Cruz? [moved from SF]

My husband and I are planning a mid-week wine tasting get-away to Santa Cruz from San Francisco in May and will be staying at the Adobe on Green B&B in downtown Santa Cruz. Would love to hear of any non-touristy restaurant recommendations, ideally in walking distance? Thank you!!

Wine virgin goes to wine country!

We stopped in Paso Robles in June, on our way to and from San Francisco to Santa Barbara and discovered some excellent wineries and became wine club members of two. We particularly liked Edward Sellers (tasting room downtown, just off the main plaza), Cass (they offer a chef-cooked lunch with wine pairing), and Denner (beautiful new tasting room on top of a hill). Paso Robles is most known for their Rhone-style wines so you will find Marsanne, Rousanne, Viognier for whites and Grenache, Carignane, Syrah, etc. for reds.

Lunch spot between San Francisco and Yosemite Valley?

My husband, children (5 and 3) and I are driving to Yosemite on Sunday and would love to stop for lunch somewhere that is not part of a fast food chain. We will be taking CA-99 and CA-140. Thank you!

Kid-friendly weekend lunch spot close to MOAH in Palo Alto

I am taking my children (3 and 5) to the LEGO exhibit at the Museum of American Heritage in Palo Alto (in the historic Williams House) on Saturday. Can anyone recommend a nice lunch spot? My kids eat "real" food, so no chains please. Thanks!

Anybody been to Calistoga lately?

It has been years that I have been to Calistoga and at the time, I always ate at the restaurant in the Mountview Hotel (I am forgetting the name now). My husband and I are going to be there for one night on Sunday, Feb 15 and I was wondering if anybody has been lately and can recommend a place to eat. Ideally in walking distance from the Indian Springs (basically anywhere downtown Calistoga). THANKS!

Breakfast near Paramount Theatre in Oakland, mid-week

Where would you go with a group of 6 adults and 2 children on a Wednesday around 10:00/10:30 am? We will be at the Paramount Theatre for my naturalization ceremony and are looking for a place to have a celebratory breakfast afterwards. Ideally in walking distance. I love Flora but they don't open until 11:30 am :-(. THANKS!

Healdsburg on a Monday night? Cyrus, Dry Creek, Zin? Or something entirely different?

We will be in Healdsburg Sunday through Tuesday in early February and need a place to eat on Monday night. Eating at Madrona Manor on Sunday which we have enjoyed in the past. Neither recent review on Dry Creek, Cyrus or Zine sound promising. Have they become too "trendy" or "touristy". We do however like Gary Danko alumni cooking. Any recommendations on those three or others? Thanks!

Dinner for 1 near Hard Rock Hotel?

SF Foodie will be in Chicago for a business trip from 12/9 - 12/11 and I will have one night to myself (Sunday night) and am looking for dinner options near the Hard Rock Hotel. I prefer a local, neighborhood place to any tourist destination and would love to experience whatever you consider "typical Chicago fair" (pizza? Polish sausages?). Love sitting at a bar with a book. THANKS MUCH!
