Curious about Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa area

Johnny Garlic's? Wow you do need suggestions.

In Santa Rosa - Willi's Wine Bar, Rosso Pizzeria, Zazu, Bistro 29, Bruno's on Fourth are all better options.

Good Persian food for Narooz?

Faz in Sunnyvale is worth checking out since it may be more convenient to your location

A little less Gioia in Berkeley (regulations run amok?)

There is also a Chinese restaurant in that section and no off-street parking. Seems unfair to single out one place.

The bathroom requirement or even fire code (ie. too many people inside at once) may have been the issue.

Quick Saturday day trip to sf, need a place for dinner

Tropisueno is very close to Cask and a good option

ORIGINAL JOES..North Beach!

This is like Ray's Pizza in New York. Original Rays, New Rays, New Original Rays, Original Original Rays.

So this is Original Original Joes?

Haven - Oakland

So I finally made my way over to JLS to try Haven. Having read previous reviews I decided to put in my order for the rolls immediately. They came out rather quickly and were as previously described, "dark, salty Parker House-style rolls." However, they did not appear baked to order. When they arrived at the table they were not warm at all, and the iron pan they were served in was cold. They defintely had been baked well ahead of time. They were fine but not great.

The menu was rather hit/miss. The standouts were the clams starter and the scallops entree. The baked California dessert was good too. The lamb shank was fine but a little heavy handed and off the bone which I did not expect. The cauliflower side dish had a baby food-like consistency and was topped with a couple of pieces of raw broccoli for textural contrast which was odd. The service was very attentive and the space is very well done. There is good separation between tables and a chef's counter if you want to view the action in the kitchen.

Not bad overall, it seems like they are still working on a few issues but there is promise. I will probably go back but I won't be rushing.

Haven: Stick-to-your-ribs fare (and the tiniest bread oven in the world)

Interesting about the bread. I was recently at Plum and they have changed the bread service. They now make their own bread to order and it takes about 10-15 mins once requested. The bread they offered was akin to a savory fry bread with a naan-like consistency. I am not sure if they rotate the bread offering or if it will always be of this type.

Moving back to Oakland. What are the latest and greatest?

Bowl'd Korean is worth checking out.

Estrella restaurant, Paso ?

No website?

Remi Martin Louis XIII Cognac

$190 include the trip to Hawaii?

Remi Martin Louis XIII Cognac

I suspect you will be able to find it at places that cater to the expense account.

Michael Mina has it for $250
Bourbon Steak lists it for $160

Boca Steak: An incompetent, expensive wannabe.

How about El Paseo for steak? Has anyone been since TyFlo took over and changed it into a "House of Chops"?

Smoke -- new BBQ (maybe) on San Pablo, Berkeley

Not sure which is worse, a bf that demands a booth or demands chips (fries).

San Francisco institutions...

Foreign Cinema

Orson closed, makeover in progress

If she put as much effort into a restaurant as she did on TNIC then her restaurants may not be closing.

New Parents in SF - Advice on Dinner

All of your options are solid. I would take a look at the menus and decide which ones most appeal to your tastes. In my opinion Benu, Sons and Daughters, and Commonwealth are more interesting overall experiences than Quince, Boulevard and Canteen.

You may want to add Saison to your list. Though I haven't been since they made some recent format changes. Also, La Folie and Acquerello are solid choices and I have heard some good things about Fifth Floor but I haven't been.

Non-Pareils in Sacto?

I have seen them at Trader Joes.

T-Rex new menu

Have you tried Ironwood BBQ in Berkeley? I have been meaning to give them a try.

I haven't found any terrific BBQ worth recommending, though I have enjoyed Bo's in Lafayette for brisket about 10 years ago. Not sure if it has stood the test of time.

New Parents in SF - Advice on Dinner

I am assuming dinner does not include a baby.

My vote would be Atelier Crenn.

You wonder why that Olive oil was such a bargain?

Original link didn't work but this one worked for me

Orson closed, makeover in progress

I wouldn't doubt she won. She has been on every "celebrity" chef competition TV show between Food Network and Bravo some multiple times. So they probably feel they owe it to her or she has finally learned the ins and outs to win.

21st Birthday Party Dinner Suggestions...

What day of the week are you considering?

Help me fill in the blank: Fleur de Lys, Incanto, ________?

I would look at either Commonwealth (in SF) or Commis in the East Bay. I wouldn't do both but one or the other would be a good contrast to some of your other considerations.

Modern Cookie Co. (Larkspur)

If you want to compare a cookie and sex then I would conclude they are both better when hot.

Guest chef in Oakland? Anybody been?

Website suggests the current guest chef has been extended through this week (Dec. 11th).
From the looks of the menu much of what is being offered is pre-made by someone else.

Acme bread, Fra Mani salumi, Humboldt Fog cheese, and all pastas made by Baia Pasta in Oakland.

Commonwealth or Bar Agricole (or elsewhere)?

Of the two, I prefer Commonwealth. The food is interesting with a bit of a molecular gastronomy slant to some of the dishes. It is causal yet refined.

Another suggestion open late and not super expensive is Nopa which would be a solid choice.

Suggestions or restaurants to avoid?

Remove the jacket and the tie and you will be ready to go. Button down shirt and slacks will work.
