Wiener Schnitzel?

Can anyone recommend a local place for great Wiener Schnitzel? I used to go to a Czech place called Savarin, on Prospect St. in Cambridge, where the chef/owner made the thinnest, crispiest ones ever, and as big as the plate. Closed, moved to the western 'burbs, then closed again. When you asked for the check, he would always say "I am the Czech!"
Would really like to have something that good again, but don't know of many German, Austrian or Eastern European places around here.

Where can I buy fresh burrata cheese

Once the farmer's markets are open (is Copley open yet?) you will be able to get Fiore di Nonno's burrata there. Made fresh every morning so you will get the freshest ones possible that way.

Purchasing half a pig (butchered and frozen)

Try A. Arena & Sons, Hopkinton. You will need to give them some notice and they will get whatever you want.

Sabzi - East Arlington - Persian

I tried Roksana's Kebab Hut in Watertown (133 Mt Auburn St) over the weekend. Same style as Sabzi - just kebabs, but beautifully well done, over rice (there are other options as well). See web site below for details. They also have a small selection of fresh veg and the real-deal skewers for this style of kebab (ground meat packed onto the flat skewer). I thought the beef kebab & rice was delicious. Very moist, good flavor. Liked the grilled tomatoes and the mint/herbs, loved the pickle! Couldn't tell if it was a home made pickle or not but it was excellent. No seating, take out only, for now.

Where can I find "Ruby 18" tea from Taiwan?

Awesome! Thanks CrazyEgg & lergnom.

Where can I find "Ruby 18" tea from Taiwan?

There's apparently a relatively new tea from Taiwan called Ruby 18. It's available by mail order, but has anyone seen it locally? Heard about this on Splendid Table Jan 2011 (just listening to some old podcasts now).

April 2012 Openings & Closings

I heard from a friend of the owner that the restaurant will open on Sunday at 10:00. The address is 133 Mt Auburn Street in Watertown.

Breakfast in Lexington

Masa next to Whole Foods. Not Lexington, but close.

Seriously, what does Highland Kitchen put in their pancakes? [moved from Boston]

Can you say "butter"? More, more, more than you would think of using at home?

Gastropubs/bars for foodies on the North Shore?

RIverway pizza is what you're looking for. Ipswich. Be forewarned, no, as in no, atmosphere. But awesome pizza - try the meatball pizza if you like meatballs.

Who makes the best french fries in Boston?

I am a fan of Clover Food Truck fries. Nice rosemary - fresh. This is the actual truck, at South Sta. Got very little rosemary at the Kendall Sq truck last week. Have not tried the bricks & mortar ones.

Market Basket in Chelsea

Panettone

Trader Joe's has a pretty serviceable one, imported from Italy, this time of year.

Unmarinated Olives in Boston?

If you want a good recipe for home cured olives, google the one from the NYT a couple of years ago - it's from an old Italian guy. I can send it if you want; email me at the address in my profile. I have had good luck with it using raw olives from WF - pricey but reasonable quality. Was at Arax today but didn't see any - very seasonal.

Persian in Allston?

Does anyone know of a Persian (Iranian) restaurant in Allston called something like Hayem or Hayam? I searched the board on those without success.
Happy Holidays,

Xiao Long Bao at Ten Ichi F

Where would you recommend, BW? I have been disappointed in most xlb i have had around here.

Rodizio/Churrascaria: What's best these days?

Can't say that I have done an extensive survey, but I like the place on Medford St. near Magoun Sq - it has several names. Very nice selection of fresh items on the cold & warm tables, and good meat. You can do "all you can eat" or buy by the pound. Not much ambience, but the owners are very friendly.

Where to take an older, hard-boiled, eccentric but loveable drinker?

Yeah! The Cantab - both SO and I thought the same thing.

Dry Pasta Preference and Where in Boston/Burbs?

Barilla is my go-to. Haven't really been blown away by the "brass extrusion die" artisanal pasta thing. Love Dave Fresh Pasta but limited varieties. Surprisingly, the Meat House in Arlington Heights has a good selection of dried artisanal pasta.

Boston Chinatown: Best Chinese restaurant for food, value and service

Second Peach Farm. Not what you would call up-scale but food and service have always been excellent for me. Remember to pick up the little orange menu of specialties at the door if they only give you the large one.

You pick raspberries in Winchester now open

The Wright Locke farm in Winchester is now open for raspberry picking. See directions and hours at web site above.
Disclosure: I have no relation to or interest in this operation, just have enjoyed picking there for years and making jam from the pickin's.

Simple, seasonal Italian NOT in North End

Carlos Cucina in Brighton. Get the pork with the home made vinegar peppers

North End Food Crawl

Second Pizzeria Regina, the Thatcher St. one of course, with a caveat - order the traditional pizzas rather than the more modern sounding ones which are not as good. And be prepared for a line. If you don' t mind eating at the bar you can often move right to the head of the line, too.
