Best places to eat in OKC

+1 for Ludivine. And agree to avoid Crabtown, nothing special there.

KC: Oklahoma Joe's -- BBQ that delivers exactly as promised

Agreed. We ate there recently for first time and decided it was the best all-around BBQ. .We ate pulled pork, ribs, sliced sausage, and a z-man sandwich, which is beef brisket topped with smoked provolone and an onion rings. Complemented with some sides of slaw and beans, which have black beans as well as meat in sauce. Plus Boulevard Pilsner. Plus I think you can still buy gasoline there, so what more would you need?
By way of comparison, every other BBQ place we have tried in KC, OK, TX, TN, or KY has had a downfall in at least one area i.e. great ribs but bad sides. This does not seem to be a problem at Ok Joe's.

French Quarter Oyster Crawl...this weekend!

Yes to Hermes Bar, we tried their Oysters Rock, and they were different than any previous Oysters Rock we have had. Different in a great way, kind of creamy?

Top Notch Dining in Small Town, Ardmore, Oklahoma

This is good news. Only dining option I found in Ardmore was the Two Frogs Grill, which is fine but hardly exceptional. We'll look for Cafe Alley next time.

Where is Misal's? It appears to have vacated Campus Corner.

What are the "must not misses" in Santa Fe and Albuquerque?

Ooh, it is very good to have brunch at Cafe Pasqual's. It is worth the wait in line.

Early dinner with older parent near Westin Park Central

Just wanted to report back that we went to Zizikis, the one on Preston, and she loved it. She had a lamb dish, and I had lamb skewers. It is a lot of food, so we probably could have split an entree. We had the hummus app. which was outstanding. Also tried the retsina wine which Mom liked, especially the piney notes. We will go back, for sure.

Thanks all. Leaning toward Zizikis, also looking at La Duni in NorthPark center. Will report back.

Suggestions for road trip eating from Fort Collins to Moab via Jackson WY and Sun Valley ID?

Upcoming 2 week road trip, looking for dining options, mainly curious about any road side haunts. Going from Fort Collins, Co up to Jackson Wy, then over to Ketchum-Sun Valley, ID. Returning via Provo to Moab, then over to Taos. Whew! Planning for some brewery stops, also some Lodge dining in Sun Valley. Any other tips or dives along the route? Thanks.

We thoroughly enjoyed dinner at the Shed on our last trip.

Also, we both really enjoyed Hattie's, especially the shrimp and grits. Anything similar to it, but closer to the north side of Dallas would be a good fit.

Thanks for the tips. Luby's is not an option, since I have to eat also, and I can't stand cafeteria food. I think I have heard mention of Zizikis on these boards before, so it may be a good choice. Tapas also sounds good.\
Last time we ate at Sambuca's and it was good, but they had a prix fixe menu at the time, which made it more affordable. And it was early, before the place got crowded and loud (only 10 people in the place when we arrived).
Also should have added that she enjoys her pre-dinner cocktail, and I enjoy wine with dinner, so some alcohol service is needed.

What can I get in OKC, I can't get in SoFla?

Chicken Fried steak is a great idea. Cheevers has a jalepeno one that is outstanding and huge!
Chelino's and Cocina de Mino have never impressed me has having good food. You will get full, but you will not remember how anything tasted. I would not send out-of-towners there.
Cattleman's atmosphere pushes it to the top for me. Mickey Mantle's is a good idea since it is in Bricktown.

Wondering if can get some advice for dining on a Saturday evening in Dallas. Here are the constraints. Taking my mom to a matinee in Fair Park then headed to an early dinner (6 to 6:30pm) before returning to Westin hotel in North Dallas. She will eat anything as long as not too spicy. She does not like to wait in long lines, so a place with reservation system would be best. We are from out of town so long drives are out. Entree costs under $20 if possible. Perhaps Asian or Tex-Mex, nothing too heavy as she eats like a bird. Also hard of hearing, so low noise level would be a help. Thoughts?

Agree with the steak answer. Go to Cattlemen's Steakhouse, not just for the great steaks but also because the location in the Stockyards and the general ambience are nothing like South Florida.

Best Coffee Shops in Oklahoma City/Metro area?

I agree with the Coffee Slingers rec. Nice place, clean sparse decor, great staff. They do a better French press than other coffee shops in town.

Good eats around Oklahoma City?

Best lunch sandwiches in OKC are at Prairie Thunder Bakery in Plaza Court near St. Anthony's hospital. What makes them so special? The owner is an artisan bread maker with a true love for his craft. He makes one bread with sunflower seeds which is incredible.

Road trip recs STL to OKC via I-44

It depends how heavy you want your breakfast meal to be. Jimmy's Egg goes heavy on the grease (butter, lard, etc) and most of their dishes involve minimal seasoning. In other words, go if you are hungover and need the grease to settle the stomach, otherwise you may want to pass.
But I agree the bread is very good, as long as you ask them to send it out unbuttered.

Road Trip Recs on I-40?

I'll put in a plug for the breakfast in OKC. Ingrid's German restaurant near NW 39th and Penn has great breakfast sandwiches, coffee, etc. Or try La Baguette Bistro on N. May for a croque monsieur...

Foodie Destinations along I-35 (TX-MN)

Edmond is a great overnight stop on I-35 in all arenas, except fine dining. Cascata's is closed, Boulevard Steakhouse overpriced for mediocre steaks with unenthusiastic service, and Le Cep Bistro serves frozen green mussels and does something bizarre to their French onion soup. Seriously, you are very limited. You can trek to the big city (OKC), and get great steak at Cattleman's. Or you can wing it in Edmond with either Cafe 501 or Signature Grill for a sit-down meal, or grab a pizza from Falconi's.

Red Draw

Just got back from the Bar-L this week. They still have the Red Draw, but we noticed signs all over West Texas for cans of Bud and Bud Light, premixed with clamato juice. So it has obviously become a big enough deal that a bottling distributor makes it available for purchase by the can.
Food at Bar-L is very good, by the way.

Joe Allen's, Abilene report

We spent the night in Abilene and decided to sample BBQ. We had dinner the first night at Sharon's BBQ. We had brisket and ribs. The brisket meat was tender but lacked flavor. The regular BBQ sauce was too heavy for my taste, but the vinegar BBQ sauce was good. The sides were bland, except for the excellent jalepeno cream corn which was delicious. In all, give it a 5/10.
So then we went to Harold's the next day. It is like the difference between night and day from Sharon's. They have got it down, the decor, the sides, the flavor, everything. We had ribs, ham, brisket, and sausage. Ribs were so juicy and tender, and husband thought the ham was outstanding. As someone posted here, the side of greens makes you like collard (hard to believe). Great cornbread, sweet peach cobbler, it was like we died and went to heaven. Give it a 10/10. We'll go again the next time we are in Abilene.

Midland/Odessa places to eat

We just drove through Midland on a round trip. We had dinner one night at La Bodega. We both had chile rellenos, one chicken, one beef. They were good, but the red sauce included raisins and pecans?? Not sure if this is a local variant. It was really good, but odd. Had lunch at Rosa's cafe, which seemed no different than a Taco Bueno, except for the cold beer. Wall Street was closed, so we'll try it next time.

Marfa-Alpine-Big Bend

Just got back from Marfa and here is the brief rundown. Had dinner on Saturday at Maiya's, jammed with people for the holiday, luckily we had reservations. Waiter was great, he recommended penne puttanesca which was outstanding. Husband tried the sausage with the balsamic reduction mentioned here and it was great. Also had great melon appetizer. Husband had dessert which was ginger ice cream with belgian chocolate which was one of the best desserts we have tried. A great place. Highly recommended.
Had early dinner at Pizza Foundation. Shared 1/2 pizza with good thin crust, also had nice Ceasar salad. They are BYOB, so we brought in our own beer. Highly recommended.
Had breakfast at Brown Recluse. They had a very abbreviated menu for the holiday weekend, which was a shame because I was looking forward to their migas. Husband had lemon pancakes which were delicious. I had eggs and toast which were nothing special. Had caffe mexicana which was out of this world. Recommended but try to eat there when they have the full menu.
Frozen limeades from the coffee shop next to the book store are filling on a hot day, but the best cherry limeade ever is at the Old Texas Inn malt shop in Fort Davis. Worth the drive. So good we wanted to cry.

Favorite Fort Worth place for Foodies

We just returned from a Fort Worth weekend, so I will share our favorites. Best lunch was Fuzzy's Taco Stand near TCU for excellent tempura fish and shrimp tacos. Best dinner was Lanny's near the Kimball where we enjoyed the chef's tasting menu. The soup course with poblano was to die for and my husband enjoyed the coffee-encrusted tuna. I could have done without the espresso cheesecake-thingy for dessert, but I am not a dessert fan. Best breakfast was Esperanza's next to Joe T Garcia's. Great migas, excellent coffee, service was spotty but considering how busy they were, I can't fault them.

[OKC] Oklahoma City Vietnamese [OKC]

I ate at Lido last month, after a prolonged absence and was disappointed. Portion sizes seem to have increased, and that's not always a good sign. Had BBQ pork ribs-too dry. Mom had fish and said it was nothing special. Rice is usually overcooked and gummy.
On flip side, I concur with Grand House recommendation. We have never had a bad meal there. They have dim sum on the weekends. They also have a full bar with a delicious lychee martini.

Marfa-Alpine-Big Bend

Same question, 2 years later. Any new recommendations for Marfa? We will be staying at the Paisano Hotel, and maybe service has improved at Jett's. We will be driving from the Witchita Falls area, through Odessa, so any breakfast, lunch or dinner spots along the route would be a help.
Is Cafe Cenizo still open?

Near Fairmount Hotel?

Firefly should make the cut based on the noise rating. All the soft wood elements in there seem to absorb the clatter. We sat at a 2-top this weekend and could hear each other fine. We were awfully close to the other tables, but we were not discussing anything too private. The food was excellent, especially the rock shrimp/grits appetizer. Had the fish special which was halibut, very well prepared in a butter sauce with sunflower seeds. And the neighborhood is nice to stroll around after dinner.
