Need beautiful unique lunch spot for special BD

Catch is nice, but it we use it a lot for business lunches and doesn't feel too special. Location/ambiance is a bit Santa Monica touristy too

Which LA restaurants could be realistically considered among the top 100 in the country?

Spago for sure. Last couple of dinners have been fantastic and Wolfgang is a very gracious host

What's a good Shanghai or Family Style restaurant for Lunch in the SGV nowadays?

I miss the old-school SGV places that used to be in Alhambra and MPK before that, e.g., Gerard's, Paris Restaurant, Manny's El Loco, Yee Low Deli, Naugles, etc.

What's a good Shanghai or Family Style restaurant for Lunch in the SGV nowadays?

If going the Tasty Garden route, the original location on Valley Bl in Alhambra is better than the flashier and newer MPK one. Every time I have ordered food from the MPK location it has been a little off

Hinoki and the Bird…very good, but...

Agree with everything you said about Craft. I've been to Hinoki twice now and the only memorable things were the drinks and the ambience. The food, service, level of comfort and value is superior at Craft

So, who's going to the Catfe?

Wow, this event was even more lame than I originally thought. I cannot help wondering if these same people who waited in line for 3 hours to pet a cat also wait in line to vote on Election Day.

Catered Lebanese food in Pasadena

Wahib's in Alhambra. Excellent Lebanese and they cater, host large parties, etc.

So, who's going to the Catfe?

I doubt the server at your busy restaurant will be depositing their shit in a large sandy box inside the restaurant, then lick their dirty ass throughout the day or be allowed to sit naked on furniture with said dirty ass

I prefer my cafés without toxoplasma gondii, thank you

So, who's going to the Catfe?

I don't enjoy eating near animals who regularly lick their own asses or eat rats and mice. The current trend for dogs and cats at restaurants is really quite disgusting

Manhattan Beach Rehearsal Dinner

If you order carefully, you might be able to do Petros Greek restaurant right there at your hotel in MB. Very good modern Greek cuisine which reminds me of the upscale places in Athens

ISO Great fresh Italian sausage in L.A. area

If you are ever in the South Bay, check out South Shores Meat Shop in San Pedro some time. San Pedro has a large Italian and Croatian community and the Italian sausage and cevapcici there are fantastic

Where to go for good "jack of all trades"Japanese restaurant?

I hope not. There are enough bland hamburgers already available in Japan

Where to go for good "jack of all trades"Japanese restaurant?

Izakaya Honda-Ya has good yakitori and a solid diverse menu. I often crave their albacore tataki. They have locations in Little Tokyo and OC

Red Medicine Announces It Will Close at the End of October

That is too bad. I really enjoyed my meals there and will miss their wildly inventive style, sort of like an Asian-influenced version of René Redzepi's Noma in Copenhagen

quiet place downtown for a meeting

Some great options in this thread. La Serenata de Garibaldi also might work. Directly across street from Mariachi Plaza Gold Line Station

Gordon Ramsay - The London?

It has been about two years, but I remember having a remarkable beef dish there. I am not sure of the cooking process involved, but it appeared rare when served yet was cooked throughout with a crisp outside. To this day I can't figure out how it was prepared like that, maybe sous vide?

Where to "wow" a visitor with "do NOT miss this place" recommendations

I would not recommend Hinoki to any traveller unless they were in the immediate area. I've had a couple meals there and while the atmosphere is quite nice, I can't remember anything remarkable food wise except for some nasty yam dish. Drinks were pretty inventive and good though
