I-70: OH, IN, IL, MO, KS, CO Cross Country Road Trip

Hey. If you love coffee, then you have to visit the original Kaldi's Cafe on 700 Demun in St. Louis. They have great coffee, fantastic espresso, and lots of scones, muffins, breads, sandwiches, salads, etc. It would be a great place to breakfast at before heading back on the road. There is also a Kaldi's in Columbia, MO, but it is a few miles off the highway. If you don't make it to the one in St.Louis it's a nice break before Kansas City.

You may or may not have time, but there is an excellent new beer garden restaurant in Kansas City. It's casual, but the food is excellent. If you have time for a relaxing dinner, stop here! If you are going for a quicker dinner, then you could stop at Gates Barbeque, or Arthur Bryant's.

Great Restaurants in the Village?

Lupa is a favorite of mine for good Italian...and when my mom visited me, she appreciated that it was a mario batali restaurant.

Ice Cream Sundaes

I think Blue Ribbon Bakery in the West Village has what you are looking for.

Cosette, le zucco, and le gigot-which for dinner?

yeah, I was talking about zucco. Would it work for 4 people? I've always wanted to eat there. Is is tasty?

French Macaroons...

I've had Bouchon and Financier and Bouchon is better by far. They have rotating seasonal flavors which are my favorite-lemon, raspberry, pistachio-i'm not sure what they have now, but they are worth the ridiculous price if you want the best. The Vanilla beans are from madagascar!

Lupa - recent recommendations?

I love the marinated olives..i'm not even sure why but they are so freaking good. And I second the Gnocchi.

Favorite Chinatown bakery?

Tai Pan Bakery has the best buns in my opinion. I also like their tea the best, because it is always hot and really sweet. For angel food cake I love the lung moon bakery...on mott...or mulberry...whatever the block directly west of tai pan is.

Recs for lunch with my aunts.

It's pushing the midtown..but what about Chez Laurence, 245 Madison Ave, New York 10016
At 38th St.

Tapas-type food, not too noisy?

I fifth Alta. Great for talking.

Any rock solid dinner choices left?

Hearth is a good idea. I also really like Blue Ribbon Bakery. The restaurant is small, cozy, and unpretentious. It is what is it is, and the service is gracious. I always leave just feeling good.

Cosette, le zucco, and le gigot-which for dinner?

I'm going out jan.2 with a few friends and we want a good french meal. Which should we go to? I don't mind paying more if it is great! thanks.

Need a good place to take my girlfriend

Alta is amazing. Anyone who took me to Alta would pretty much be my hero. The lighting is dim and the atmosphere is cozy but inviting. Strongly consider it!

Best Seasonal Menu right now for $30?

I haven't been in the city since this summer. What are some great meals for around $30 and a group of 6?

Midwest Chowhound neaded to NYC-need recs [Moved from the Midwest Board]

I hear you about the manhattan board. I lived there for a while and some posts just get ignored. Usually I readjust my question, make it more specific or something and repost it. But on that note, I would be happy to give suggestions here.

There are a few really good vegetarian options in the east village.

1. Caravan of Dreams-it's actually vegan but I thought the flavors were great! Nice creativity with the flavors, great atmosphere, but i would go somewhere else for dessert...like rice to riches in soho.

2. Counter-a vegetartian restaurant that is casual upscale. Some nice entrees for sure.

3. Cafe Mogador-it's middle eastern or lebanese..or something. it has GREAT cous cous and hummus dishes.

4. Lupa-I would agree that Lupa is pretty good. It has a dim lit-jolly italian atmosphere. It's a great scene. Plus the pastas are excellent, especially the gnocchi. On that same note (it's a mario batali restaurant) Otto's is a great choice too (another mario batali restaurant. It's primary pizza but there are also pasta dishes and the gelato is otta this world. The olive oil flavor is one of the holy grail's for ny chowhounds.

5. Blue Ribbon Bakery(on downing)-is casual-classy. A bit pricey but cozy and always great. They serve..somewhat traditional fair (no mixing and matches 'crazy' flavors) and i'm always happy when I'm there and when i leave. Great tomato bisque, goat cheese salad, sandwiches, and bread pudding!

6. Clinton st baking co-best pancakes and syrup duo. known for brunches and unfortunately long lines. But i've been on a sunday and waited 45 min. We passed the time by walking around and it was like no time at all. It's fabulous. I've also heard great things about Jane for brunch.

7. If you are a bagel addict, like me, Murray's bagels on 6th ave, bwn. 12th and 13th (it's the only thing i've memorized the address to if that tells you anything). A seaseme bagel, strawberry cream cheese, and a foaming cafe au lait and the perfect-not too hot, not too cold temperature. It's my favorite breakfast ever. They have lots to choose from if that's not your yin yang combo!

Sorry if you are familiar with this site, but I used it religiously in NY and I want to make sure you know about it-menupages.com-everything you need to know if you don't already.

West Village for lunch tomorrow

Have you been to the Blue Ribbon Bakery on Downing? It's sophisticated-casual and it's awesome!! Some of the items are a bit pricey but I always have an excellent meal there. They have lovely salads, appetizers, soups and sandwiches....you might have to check the hours for lunch-dinner.

sf chowhound visiting on a budget

CAFE MOGADOR st. marks place bwn. ave A and 1st ave. Great atmosphere, great hummus and Amazing cous cous! Affordable too!

Financier is the only notable thing in the financial district. It's good for morning pastries but make sure you go to the orginal one on stone st.

Zucco-lower east side 188 orchard st (bwn houston and stanton)

Clinton St. Baking Co-Lower east side, best pancakes and syrup team i've ever had.

Bouchon Bakery?

Bouchon is pricey because of the location, but they do use the top quality ingredients in everything. I'm no pastry virgin and I love it! Eating at the cafe I would reccommend any of the salads and sandwiches. They are nicely presented and the service is gracious. I think the pastries and cookies, etc. are just as good at the retail store as in the restaurant (not always true of the sandwiches). It's worth a trip, even if the Samsung sign is a bit ridiculous.

Former NY chowhound back and curious about great summer food and tasting menus (WD-dessert menu?)

I lived in New York this past winter and I am visiting for a week. Are there any new things or essential summer things I can't miss? There are no foods I don't like. :)
