I'll be in Seattle for one day this coming weekend and am looking for an affordable place (bad economy) to have breakfast/brunch (up to $12 for a good, hearty breakfast) and dinner (up to $20 for an entree). Any recommendations?
Will be staying in Downtown, near the Pike Place Market.
Bang for Your Buck Dinner and Breakfast in Seattle?
I will be in Seattle at the close of this month and am looking for two things: a good spot for dinner and breakfast/brunch. I'd like the dinner to be very reasonably priced, around $10-15 an entree, and breakfast and brunch to be similarly priced. We will be staying in the Downtown area, but am willing to venture a little out of the city's perimeters for good grub. Cuisine doesn't matter, although something that's characteristic of Seattle would be desired. Thanks in advance for your tips!
Another thing: my partner prefers American staples like mac and cheese, ribs, burgers, and hot wings, so anything that accommodates that palate—while offering a range of vegetable-heavy options (for me)—would be great!

Super awesome Italian American food?
So my boyfriend isn't a huge fan of Italian food à la Angelini Osteria. He's more of a Palermo (on Vermont) kind of guy. I have to admit, I do like this kind of food once in awhile. Give me Olive Garden-esque bread sticks, soup, and salad anytime! (Heh!)
That said, can anyone give recommendations for mom-and-pop-type restaurants between the Westside and Eastside that serve this type of food? We could, of course, go to the Olive Garden or Buca di Beppo, but we'd rather go somewhere like Palermo (this is the only one I can think of off the top of my head that fits my criteria).

Good restaurant between the Eastside and the Westside? (Silver Lake and Venice?)
I'm looking to have dinner tomorrow somewhere between Silver Lake and Venice. I'm thinking somewhere along La Brea (would this be considered mid-way) or Fairfax or Third Street. Looking for something pretty affordable but of decent quality--the best place I can think of that fits these standards is Nook in Santa Monica).

Hey, thanks for the Nook recommendation! We ended up going there on Saturday and it was fantastic! I had the chicken brown rice bowl and it was simple and filling. Hooray!

Grill Lyon has a pretty good lunch special. It's on the southeast corner of 2nd and Central, in a strip mall.

Oh another thing, the friend with whom I am going is partially vegetarian. She only eats fish and shellfish. So nothing too much on the meaty side.

Haha, I love it. Everyone seems to love Pizzicotto, but I've cooked better tasting things out of a box. Maybe I'm just picky.

I'm looking for a restaurant to go to with a friend on Saturday or Sunday that boasts entrees that are under $20 (preferably closer to under $15). Nothing too ratty --I'm thinking along the lines of Pizzicotto (I know the food is horrendous, but the place is cute) or La Buca. Open to any type of cuisine.

So the Glendale (Calif.) Whole Foods has a wonderful Israeli couscous salad that features cranberries and various other ingredients I can't put my finger on. Can anyone direct me to a recipe for such a dish!?
Less than feliz in los feliz. Help, need recs for new places...
I like the Alcove for their salads, but not much else. I also like Comfort Cafe because it's pretty laid back, albeit a little standard in terms of food. Also, I think Square One Dining is one of the best places in both Silver Lake and Los Feliz. Too bad it closes at 4pm.

Nature Mart on Hillhurst in Los Feliz sells it in bulk for $2.59 a pound.

I agree with you on the Hong Kong-style bakeries! They're so delicious (not overly sweet) and such a steal at their prices!

I think you're going the wrong way with the three bakeries you listed. Their cakes are beautiful, but they aren't terribly good. I would highly recommend Cathy's Bakery, located in a strip mall in San Gabriel (on the southwest corner of Las Tunas and San Gabriel Blvd.) for your wedding cake. Not only do they do beautiful cakes, it's also quite tasty. Throw in a few bucks (maybe more, since the cake you're in search for sounds immense!) and request the flakey pastry centre. Heaven!

Skyr - where to buy in LA?
Hi! Skyr is a really thick type of cheese from Iceland. It has the consistency of sour cream--thick and rich--but it doesn't have any of the fat. It's also not as tart as Greek yogurt, rather, it's creamy and has a tinge of sweetness to it. I love the 0% Fage yogurt they sell at Trader Joe's, and the house-brand Greek yogurt is also great, but it is a little fatty.
Skyr - where to buy in LA?
I just returned from a trip to the Mid-Atlantic states and had the pleasure of bumping into a Whole Foods that carried skyr in the salad bar (I didn't check the dairy section). I understand that only Whole Foods on the East Coast (and some in the Rockies?) carry skyr. That said, does anyone know where I can get my grubby hands on this fabulous thick dairy product in LA?
