Yes, I have toyed with the idea of Galatoire's for Friday lunch also. Not sure about the waiting in line part though. How was your experience with it?

Christine -- we are staying in the French Quarter. I am having such a hard time deciding on these meals -- must mean we should have booked a longer getaway. I really want Thursday night to be great food and a fun time as my BF is dreading the "Double nickels" birthday!

Thanks sanglier. Neither one of us have been to Clancy's and the menu looks fabulous. We have decided to dine there for his birthday dinner on Thursday night.

Thanks all. I am going with Clancy's -- love the menu and the wine list for his birthday. I also like the idea of Atchafalaya for Sunday before we leave town.

san francisco new year's eve and day

I will be in San Francisco with my BF and my 17 year old daughter during Christmas/New Year's Break. We will be staying in SF for a few days then driving to my BF's family home which is few hours south. Then back to SF Dec. 28 - Jan 2.

I am looking for a nice place for dinner (dancing?) to celebrate New Year's Eve and then a New Year's Day brunch or lunch. We are staying in Union Square area.

Will be in NOLA again for a long weekend in late September celebrating my BF's 55th Birthday. Having a hard time deciding where to go for his birthday dinner as someone he works with highly recommended The Pelican Room - I saw the mixed reviews. This is the itinerary so far -- I am open to recommendations and willingly to switch things up!

Thursday afternoon arrive and celebrate birthday dinner at The Pelican Room or I was thinking of Clancy's ?

Friday dinner at Bayona

Saturday dinner at August

Sunday lunch or brunch ??

Lunch musts are oysters at the ACME house (BF must) and Cochon Butcher (my must) I was thinking of skipping Commander's Palace this trip unless we go for the Friday lunch or Sunday brunch before we leave town.

Any suggestions appreciated. We have done Mr. B's, Emeril's, ... before.

NOLA long weekend, please review itinerary, am open to suggestions

TaTee -- I called Irene's and they have availability at 5:30 p.m. The person who made the reservation thought we would be able to make it at that time even though our flight arrives at 4:15. I left the K-Paul reservation at 7, in case we don't make it to the FQ in time for Irene's.

Thank you for the info about Irene's. I have never had turtle soup! The piano player in the bar sounds really nice.

I like the idea of the .25 martinis and cosmos and the fact that I could make a reservation. So, I am staying with Commander's.

bakery to order mom's 85th birthday cake, lake worth area

I live in Lake Worth and have tried most bakeries around. Publix has a great bakery. However, for that special something I use Carmine's. 2401 PGA Blvd #172, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410
(561) 775-0105

They have always done an excellent job for me!

Mom's 80th in Boynton Beach/West Palm area

Riverhouse in Palm Beach Gardens is always nice. Upstairs they take reservations.

Locally sourced food in Pensacola/Tallahassee/Orlando/Jacksonville

Joe Patti's Seafood in Pensacola has a restaurant to the right of the Seafood building - it is smaller separate building --and it is all local and fresh.

Suggestions for walk-n solo dining Sunday night please

The bar area at Mr. B's is nice and when we were there in August there were quite a few people dining there.

Thank you collardman. I love cajun/creole/southern cooking
(although I have to stay away from other's fried chicken because there is none better than my momma's and Aunt's ! They even have the family cast iron "traveling" skillet passed down from generations that it HAS to be friedd in !!) I also love Italian food and visit Italy yearly.

Thus my dilemma! My BF just lets me decide and goes along for the ride!

My BF and I arrive next Thursday afternoon and leave Sunday afternoon.

We both have been to NOLA before, this is a birthday celebration for my BF. I grew up in the South, and he is from England. Last trip, in August 2013 we had an excellent meal at Emeril's and Mr. B's. Both of us had not been to NOLA in many, many years. Now, we can hardly wait to return!

So far, I have narrowed it down to the following:

Thursday night -- K-Paul's or should I try and switch to Irene's - I can't
make up my mind
Friday lunch - Commander's Palace -- or should we try instead Galatoire's
Friday night - NOLA
Saturday lunch - I thought Cochon Butcher
Saturday night - Kermit Ruffins at 7 p.m. so we will eat at Little Gem Saloon
Sunday jazz brunch - Arnaud's before we leave town.

Thanks so much for any input. We enjoy all types of food.
We loved the Carousel Bar -- that is definitely making the list again!
